The first story my father ever told me was about Bianca, who defied her father's wishes and married an older man. This act of defiance led my father to believe that having a daughter was a curse. Despite my efforts, I always felt inadequate, fighting my battles alone and in silence. As I delved deeper into Bianca's life, considering her family's wealth and her vast intelligence, I've come to realize that Bianca was neither stubborn nor misled. It was love that led her to marry Ojukwu, and it was love that sustained their union-something the older generation often failed to understand. The misunderstanding of her story has misled many, causing fathers to impose unrealistic expectations on their daughters, who then grow up striving to outdo themselves, missing out on the beauty of life. Ojukwu was also a very educated and polished person who was educated at the University of Cambridge for both his bachelors and masters degrees. So, behind his charisma was real savoir faire and intelligence. His father was the richest man in Nigeria in the 1960s, so he was exposed to pomp and curcumstance from an early age. Thank you for covering the story! I remember reading about their story and traditional wedding coverage in Ovation magazine! I don’t think her father ever agreed to their wedding of 1994. It took years after their white wedding before her father eventually agreed and they had their traditional wedding in the early 2000’s. By the way, Ojukwu always knew Bianca even as a child, he was friends with her father and according to story would always playfully call her his wife when she was little!

You are correct. ​ Bianca's natural beauty often makes people forget how smart, widely travelled and refined she is. This to me was what made Ojukwu her equal, and readily drew them to each other. It would have been easy enough for Bianca to find a young man who could offer her security, influence and smmoney. But the level of sophistication, intellect and refinement that the multilingual and Oxford-educated Ojukwu possessed was a harder combination to come by. Throw in Ojukwu's strong character and charisma and you have a heady mix not easily available elsewhere; a mix too potent for Bianca to resist. I believe a girl as beautiful as Bianca but with less exposure and refinement would have more easily resisted Ojukwu, since his refinement and exposure would likely have meant little or nothing to such a girl.

The very year I met her as a teenager, between '95 and '96 or was it '94, I can't really recall, I had even forgotten I had met until I saw this your comment, other issues of life have taken over. I almost lost my mind that day. Back then I went to her salon in Enugu, as people used to call it, her spa actually. It used to be somewhere off that bank long road that will lead straight to Polo Park and IMT. You can't believe it, she spoke to me, how nah?....the one whose latchet I still cannot unloose, she asked me "are you the next person" I still remember the smile on her face as she asked.
