Wolves 0 Arsenal 2 - Liam Keen and Nathan Judah analysis

Despite seeing their side decimated by injuries, Wolves contained title-challengers Arsenal well in the first half and created chances of their own in an impressive display.

A great effort by Wolves hugely depleted side, that had players in the starting XI not fit to last 90 minutes and others playing in very unfamiliar positions. A huge commendation to Gary O'Neil that, under the direst of circumstances and against a Champions' League team he organised and motivated the team so well. Wolves held their own for much of the game, even though naturally we had pretty much zero going forward. There was some calm possession play by my Old Gold favourites after a slightly shaky start. Arsenal were fortunate to score with a mis-cued sot on the stroke of half-time to gain what I thought was an undeserved advantage. In the end the odds were too heavily stacked against Wolves, but the lads can be proud of their efforts this evening. dylanwolf in the billyq

I thought Wolves put in a hell of a shift today. Full credit to Gary and his staff for clearly working hard this week to get ready for a very difficult match. I’m just frustrated, as many will be, that our club only has 19 first team pros . It’s unacceptable and has to be fixed in the summer. It’s simply impossible to make any progress unless we have cover for each position. I’m happy a 15 year old made the bench but I sense that Gary was making a point to Fosun in doing so- it’s downright unacceptable and that says nothing disrespectful to the young man. Gary deserves full backing from the ownership- they are very fortunate to have a quality coach and a forthright, honest person in command.

Well it wasn’t as bad as we thought? 🤷🏽 Fair play for holding their own with the bare squad we have. Some positives with Chirewa debut. Onto Wednesday and hopefully some fit players. ‬

Not sure about Tommy Doyle appraisal. Gave the ball away too often, doesn’t pivot enough instead chooses a sideways or backward pass. Only in the 80+ minute did he drive at the defence and surprise-surprise opportunities start to happen. All that said think we did well Gomes and Traore very good.
