Hi Alister and Adam, Thank you so much for all the kind words and the critique. And thanks to everyone commenting here as well, I appreciate the feedback. This was taken on my 1st day (ever) in Iceland a little over a year ago, it was my first time taking photos in a place where the weather is so dynamic and so quick to change. I often go for big multi-frame panos, and I originally wanted a wider shot, with more hills and light rays in the frame. But by the time I set up my tripod it was gone. I had my 70-200 on and I was hesitant to change lenses and go wider thinking I might miss another fleeting moment in the process so I stuck with my Tele lens and tried to find a composition that could work with it. Then I waited for more light rays to hit that hill. When I was processing this image, the light was obviously what was going to grab the attention of any viewer. But the geologic features of this landscape are so unique I felt like they shouldn't be overlooked. So I tried to balance the image the best I could in my eyes so that those that view it long enough can appreciate all the little details as their eyes roam throughout the frame.

These critiques are very useful - food for thought, instructive without being pedantic.👍

Beautiful photo! I might have considered cropping the left waterfall out entirely as it seemed to pull my attention away from the hillside and low hanging clouds. Stunning as is though!

I’m really digging these critiques. I think most photographers, looking to improve, are gleaning a lot from these. I’ve watched all of these so far, and I always come back with little nuggets of info I absolutely cannot find anywhere else. Thanks for the great content!!

Lightroom's workflow is just so nice. I'm learning Darktable and Raw Therapee at the moment and I'm struggling with those UIs. Also, what you said about the aspect ratio was beautifully put. I'll remember that.

Very useful comments. Obviously a vg photo to start with but the subtle alterations suggested are very valid both for this photo and for future personal editing. Thank you both very much.

Lol, I was waiting for the crop tool to make an appearance as has often been the case in these critiques. I couldn’t see how a crop might benefit this delightful image even though the lower left felt a bit dark. I very much enjoyed the subtle improvement suggestions offered and continue to be impressed by how a small adjustment can have such profound impact.

Weirdly, I fund the foreground crunchy and dominant, which I am sure is the reality, so it is what it is, and I understand that. Perhaps there would be a way to soften the foreground? Or maybe it is just me.

I would consider cropping this a little on the right and a bit more on the left. Then making some lighting enhancements.

I think i would have cropped away just a very small piece of the dark left side as the mountain becomes flat without much interest except for the waterfall that indeed benefited from being a little brighter. Still, these videos help to see to create better photographs.

I didn't mind the prior background and I'm a highly distractable person. Today, I thought you appeared like a devil coming out of your cave.........a little scarey. Just a thought.
