"This is living." sounds so positive. And then you watch the video and see a woman break down and it feels like her state of mind is endless. And at the same time you hear Elena's heavenly backing vocals.. What a heavy, yet beautiful song..

This song hit me hard in many ways, I relate to it, it brings me back to the nights in the city where I would wander around and see all the happy couples walking around, laughing, kissing, cuddling, having dinner, living. The loneliness I felt was suffocating, I would call up guys for a cheap thrill, some sex in a decent hotel with some drinks just to feel something other than the emptiness inside me, growing. I would feel sick after like I was degrading myself for sinking this low just to escape my problems. I felt like nobody would love me in those times, I was kind of hoping that one day a guy wouldn’t just get up and leave once the sex ended. I was hoping they would stay and hold me and let me cry out all this sadness enveloping me, engulfing my being deep inside. There were many nights in that city, in those hotel rooms, of just loneliness, pleasure, relief, hopelessness and confusion, I could see the imprints of myself in the walls. My life is better now, I’m lucky for what I have and the guy I have in my life. I’ll never forget though those feelings and how close I was to ending it all in one of those rooms, each night was like a dance with death. Those memories feel like a blur, they’re strangely nostalgic. This song brings it all right out of me. I’m grateful for escaping that cycle, I know some that never escape.

Neal Finn Interesting, did I ever say anything about wanting sympathy? Unlike yourself who posts wanting attention by provoking a response, I simply wanted to share an experience from my past that a song brought back up to surface so that others may share their own personal histories or perhaps feel that something I said makes them not feel alone in what they are going through. It’s hardly related to asking for sympathy that’s why I added into the ending what my life is like now compared to what it was back then and how I found happiness and how I’m not alone, it might bring some hope to someone else who is struggling that they too can surpass their own personal struggles or pain. You don’t know what strength is considering you sit behind a screen attempting to be a “keyboard warrior” because you’re immature and your brain cannot comprehend anything outside of your own self. I suggest getting a life, your words are about as meaningless as a speck of dust in my mirror and they carry about as much weight.

You're gifted and talented! You've been helping me getting through my life for years. Years of struggling, and I've finally become strong enough. I'm a warrior and I believe I will survive. There are no words that could describe the way your voice aches in my heart. The tone and the sounds just perfectly encapsulate what I feel! I really appreciate what you are doing. Thank you! I am a Flight Attendant so I spend many of my days/nights alone in hotels. This song, and video are just so perfect. They capture the loneliness that comes with traveling and never being in one place for too long. Thank you for being so honest with your lyrics, they have touched my soul!

Elena has a way of expressing this magnificent pain and sorrow through every single lyric. This piece and Liar are my personal favorites. So easily they resonate with everything that so many people are or have gone through. I would like to add, that personally, The Dazzler shines brightest in these lines: " Drunk in my hotel room I look perfect I look like I'm 24 before I caught your coldness God I'm gorgeous I keep begging for late checkouts Let me stay here Let me live here In room 232 till I expire I can shower for hours Leave the lights on I'm not paying those bills " To be able to express the metaphor I think she is portraying here in this way is really artistic. This song will definitely stay in my memory till I expire. The music video adds a completely new layer to the meaning of the song, but I have made a way too long comment already.
@mimia7796

I have to agree that that verse really encapsulates the feeling of the song! The Dazzler is just one of those songs that takes hold of you right away and doesn't really let go. Other than this one, Crushing, Too Sad and Romance are probably my favourites off the album.

This song destroys me. While i listening, sitting alone in my room. In my House alone. I barely remember how it's outside. Going out with Friends. But i barely have of those here. And the few never found time. When i started living by myself y though It would be fun. I Will be free. But it's not. Every time i come home it's dark and lonely. Nobody waits for me anymore. It's horrid. I feel like i'm drowning, each day i have more trash in my room. Each day it's more difficult for me to wake Up. And i don't know Who to reach. And this song... It points out perfectly this feels. So good that It destroys me.

I know right.. When she says "this is heaven, alone. This is living, alone" It just does something to me... Like this is what I wanted, this is what I needed to break out from a toxic house so this should be heaven now that I'm alone, I should be living, but it's not what I wanted. And her voice and the melancholy, heavy music just cements that to me

This song struck memories of staying at hotels. The unfamiliar but relaxing setting where you know you're not staying for long, so the feeling of being free from responsibility takes over. Loneliness relieves you of consequence/judgement from others. Feels like you could stay forever, a feeling that I haven't remembered for so long but crave often, so yeah, this song hit really close to home💜

It was when I ordered all the Daughter records and also Ex: Re. Yesterday they came to me, and my surprise is that, I have not stopped listening to the album, and this is my favorite of the whole album. I can say that Elena Tonra is a magnificent artist, she is one of those few who can open your heart and unleash memories, emotions that were always in the background and hurt, you feel like the soul is connected to the music and cries. THIS MUSIC IS SOMETHING MORE THAN MUSIC. Its kinda a chronicle, the feeling of a person who is trying to make live worthy being alone. Is someone trying to let behind all the shit about love and making things better with memories. We all should do what she says in this music, go to a hotel room alone, drink alot, enjoy the "endless trhowaway towels", think about the times you made sex with your ex lover in this same hotel. And, the most importat, enjoy your own existance and your whole complexity of a human being. We all born and die alone, at the end of the life.

I relate this song with Jean Rhys’s Voyage in the dark so much. It perfectly captures the sense of alienation, the loneliness, the precarious nature of hotels, the heavy drinking, the hollow lovemaking, the self-destruction. Amazing how a song released in 2019 can relate so much to a modernist novel.

The lighting, movement, lyrics, and musicality of thos song. I am truly in awe. This is art, this makes me feel or at least remeber how it is t to feel this way. Feels like I caught a glimpse into the darker part of someone else's soul and my own that we don't dare say aloud. Sadly and optimistically somehow more connected.

Saddest part is knowing that this is me filled with emptiness and trying to fill it with drugs and alcohol and reminiscing on the experiences of the past that could’ve been but never happened

The background piano truly touches the depths of my soul. Everytime I listen to this beautiful work of art by Elena, something stirs within me. Something that brings tears to my eyes, yet also fills my heart with hope. I cannot explain what emotions her voice alone, makes me experience. Thank you so much for making this song. If I could possibly like more than once, ah, I'd have pressed that like icon a million times already.♥️

Your music was a laser Into the Heart of a severely dark heart... This is why you are not a billionaire... If I had my way... Your music would be on every radio station in the nation... I'm happy that I found you while you were singing in the band daughter

Lyrics: The night is young At the Dazzler I spiked my own drink Took myself to bed Alone I pondered the cheap thrills of hotels The miniatures The endless throw away towels One from my hair One from my foot Another for my other foot My face, my neck, my spilt beverages Drunk in my hotel room I look perfect I look like I'm 24 before I caught your coldness God I'm gorgeous I keep begging for late checkouts Let me stay here Let me live here In room 232 till I expire I can shower for hours Leave the lights on I'm not paying those bills The neighbours are quiet No one is back yet I think about the falsities of hotel sex Expensive bed sheets And the orange glowing filaments The way you used to say you love me In the heat of it Holiday feeling When it wasn't over too quick Yeah I throw the TV out the window And I'll paint the whole room of gold I'm make potions with the minibar Yeah I feel unbalanced Put my feet on the walls Trying to meet you all night I'm not paying for calls Oh This is heaven Alone Yeah This is living Alone
