Big numbers! How about using an example for the AVERAGE Working Man???

Not too uncommon in our neck of the woods, plus compounding over 20 years like in this example gives you the chance for some big numbers! Think of how much you can earn over a retirement just in FERS pension and Social Security, it's likely millions. A 3% inflation for a decade cuts purchasing power by a 1/3. The same is true for compounding growth the other way around. Cheers to bigger numbers!

@@casmithc2 I see your point now. My apologies, our channel focuses on retirement planning for feds since their financial situation is so unique, and I was under the impression that you were a federal employee as well and hence with a pension!

Can you withdraw from Roth if you are retiring and the MRA? Will you penalized for withdrawing from a Roth when you have retired at MRA or do have to wait until you reach a certain age before you withdraw from it.

This depends if you are referring to the TSP or not. If you retire at your federal MRA (57ish), then you're eligible for TSP withdrawals.

@@TheFedCorner yes can you withdraw from the Roth that is through I think it’s TSP. But was wondering I have about three years left before retirement. Should I start putting the my money in the Roth or keep putting in the Regular TSP. Will retire at 57 and 6months. With 30 years.

@@joeysowell116 This question is too specific for us to be able to answer without it resembling as advice. But we can say you should consider your expected tax brackets in the future and how they relate to your current brackets; that should help give you a starting point. Hope this helps.
