Are people genuinely not seeing Brodie Spencer grabbing the Stevenage number 2, preventing him from challenging for the ball and then throwing him to the ground? I was confused about what the penalty was given for in the stadium, but as soon as I saw the replay at home it was mystery solved. In retrospect, a fair spot by the ref IMO.

Spencer didn't throw him to the ground, he threw himself to the ground. The ref needs to get his eyes checked. He was being fooled all afternoon. Shocking performance by him and his assistants. The holding from Spencer happens at every single corner at every single game, every week. If you're giving penalties for that, there will be 9 or 10 penalties per game and we'll have rugby scoreline.

Okay, "throwing him to the ground" might be putting it a bit strongly, but he definitely held him back with his hands, which is absolutely a foul, anywhere on the pitch, whether the ref gives it or not. So I'm just saying that it's not a mystery penalty, and since it actually is a foul there's nothing I can complain about other than the inconsistency of giving this one but not one of the countless others.

@@zigzagwandrr Let’s be fair though, I’m not saying Spencer was right to put hands on the Stevenage player but if the Stevenage player doesn’t throw himself to the floor the ref doesn’t give it and there was also worse shirt pulling etc in the game on players like Evans and Ward which he didn’t punish

idc when was the last time town got a penalty at home in front of fans , literally about 5 years ago , it wouldn’t of been given to us

@@bradleydearnley7364 The last pen we got at home was against Cardiff in 2021, but in front of fans it was probably under the Cowley’s and since then we’ve had more apology letters than pens

never a pen, even worse standard of referees in league 1 than championship. Haven’t had a pen at home in years.

I was at the game and if that was a pen then we were robbed of one earlier. Someone player danny ward into the box and the defender just dragged him back as he went past him, so different to what spencer did but no pen. In addition the same strong 50:50 happened to both teams in the first half and Evans got a yellow and the player who did it to spencer got nothing. The ref also didnt give play on as we mounted a dangerous attack. He was very shit but did feel a bit Stevenage biased.

Given that in so many games we see players jostling and pushing each other during a corner, I think this was a harsh penalty. It may well have been the correct decision but in incidents such as this they are rarely given. Fortunately at didn't affect the result.

When the refereeing is a poor standard at the top of the game, what should we expect in league 1. Cost us two goals in two games in my opinion.

Spencer needs to buck his ideas up,he sold Miller short with passes in first half,the sitter they missed came from his throw in which went to their player and then he needlessly conceded a penalty,not good enough compared to how he did last year.

I don't know, maybe reckless in some way. Tbh I don't know the rules for goalies and have never questioned them. Maybe the ref knows something I don't 🤔
