I follow the world cups and European championships since 1992 and I no doubt the WC2002 was by far the WORST tournament ever! And nobody who remembers the tournement thinks about Korea as a semifinalists, everybody remembers how shamelessy referry helped them at 1/8f against Italy and 1/4f against Spain! That was an absolute disgrace, haven't seen anything like that in any other world cup! If you are too young to remember, check the highlights in youtube, wc 2000, Korea - Italy, korea - Spain! You shouldn't been even in 1/4f in that tournament!

@@will7085 What Fukuoka did wasn't any less incredible than what Lafaele did, they both were incredible so was Shota Horie, so was half of the Japanese team, there was a good 5 players in Japan I would not have minded to get man of the match, and I can't downplay Jonnie Gray 28 tackles no misses or Finn Russell excellent match, he was single handedly the reason Scotland stay in the game till the last quarter.

No European team can play attacking rugby with the speed, accurate off loading and panache that Japon showed in the first half though Scotland did try in the second half. If destiny permits, a final between the All Blacks and Japon could be a spectaculaire game if both teams obeyed their instincts and decided to play fluid running rugby.

I watched Matsushima's game closely as he took the ball. Curiously, he always seems to have a smile. In addition to his undeniable talent, this guy really enjoys playing even in the most intense moments of the game. It's a gift.

Other tier2 teams should followsuit, and end their box kick game plan until they earn the right by establishing their identity and dominate all other aspects of the game.

Fantastic to see some proper running rugby instead of the domination of the power game in modern rugby. Japan has every right to be proud of their team, and I’m sure they are. As good as Japan were, Scotland’s defence was at times very poor.

I agree. I thought that brand of rugby was gone forever to be replaced by the boring and lacking in talent game of kicks and physical domination, but it was great to see that Japan brought that rugby back.

@Zed Yep, of the 8 teams left, 4 are coached by NZ coaches and 2 by Aussies.

OK but can we please talk about how absolutely phenomenonal Nakajima has been for the entire competition so far. Absolutely ferocious in the break down and, especially for a prop, some absolutely god tier handling and running skills

As someone with multi generational Scots blood it not fun for me to see Scotland lose. At the same time I am glad to see our beloved game have fresh hero’s. Well played Japan.
