There is absolutely NO reason anyone should condemn Mr. & Mrs. Holmes. James was in Colorado they couldn't see his illness starting to take over more and more of his life. As a person who suffers from a "mental illness" there is zero way that his parents could make sure he was taking his meds or going to therapy due to the distance between Colorado & California and because he is over the age of 18 his parents can't do anything unless he has harms himself or other people. Mrs Holmes is definitely strong and I hope she knows that there are people that are on her side and that not everyone hates James either

She doesn't think it may have been *withdrawal* from same said medications that caused this? The amplified dangers of withdrawal are pretty much written all over the warning labels. Her son, during the interviews with the psychologist, unequivocally states that the "mission" would NOThave happened if he had *continued* to receive anti-psychotics/ssri medication and that because he was dropping out of school, he lost his health coverage (he sent his shrink an envelope of burned money). This tragedy happened immediately after withdrawal from medication. Not before. There were a lot more people running around untreated before these medications came along.

One possible cause of schizophrenia, or an important contributing factor, may be heredity, or genetics. Researchers believe that some people may inherit a tendency to be at greater risk for schizophrenia in their lifetime. In fact, the disorder tends to run in families, but only among blood relatives. A perfect example would be John Forbes Nash Jr., (A Beautiful Mind) was schizophrenic and so was his son.

I never thought the parents were at fault. I thought he changed, like, within a few months, and he was living far from his family. No, listen to the shrink interviews. He clearly states that the illness was a slowly developing thing. He began to have intrusive, violent thoughts as a young teen, around 14. He would see an animated saw, attacking random people all by itself and visions of nuclear bombs going off and killing whole cities at just 14. It was 10 years before it reached a crisis point where he was actually killing people. I have to wonder where the American mental health system was in all that time.

I had three small children at the time and all the shootings that happen in America always freak me out. My heart aches for the victims of this awful crime. How do you come back from something like that? I'm someone who has CPTSD and have since childhood. My bio mother had paranoid schizophrenia and some other mental illnesses and disorders. The abuse was unfathomable. Once adopted, the abuse continued. My younger sibling struggles much more than i do because of years of abuse at the hands of parents who were mentally ill. Mental illness is nothing new in and around my life. I've seen how people avoid talking about it and how others make fun of it. It's such a huge part of so many families that i wish this stigma didn't exist so folks who need it can get the help they so badly need to get without feeling so scared. Arlene, I truly feel for you. Less than a week before the theater shooting, James Holmes was pulled over by the San Diego police, being accused of driving erratically and possibly being homicidal, by a pedestrian. Police questioned Mr. Holmes, where he openly admitted his name was James Holmes, this was confirmed when the police ran his drivers’ licence. While questioning Mr. Holmes, the police failed to notice that he(Holmes) was wearing full body armor under his clothes. They(the police) asked Mr. Holmes where he was going, he replied; “I am late to get to the airport”. Meanwhile, the pedestrian is begging the police to put Mr. Holmes on a 72 hour psychiatric hold, to make sure that Mr. Holmes is ok and that he doesn’t hurt anyone. The police tell the pedestrian he’s a homeless piece of sh*t and to go f*ck off for having stopped someone who drives such a nice car. It is now believed that the pedestrian saved an unknown number of people from injury and death that day. But this all came out in the trial right?

+Ginner Good Quite the contrary. I watched the entire James Holmes trial from pre trial motions to sentencing. I am not taking about his diagnosis of schizo-effective disorder after the crime was done, I am talking about the legal aspects of the crime at the time of the shooting. James knew to fully protect himself at the time of the shooting, did not shoot at children and elaborately planned the shooting with detail schematics in his journal: that is why the jury did not find him criminally insane at the time of the shooting. No doubt, he suffers from mental illness, but I was talking at the time of the shooting and the legalities of the crime accordingly to the law.
@Marsbar12128 жыл бұрын
purplepeace59 I followed the case daily last year from a courtroom channel for three months, from opening statements all the way to the death penalty phase. From what I understood from the insanity plea is that there are very different criterial diagnoses that 'forensic' physiatrists must follow compared to that of just as an outpatient bases, without having the patient commit a crime during a mental or psychotic break. The insanity plea did not fail him as you make reference to: he simply did not meet the criteria for the plea as James 'at the time of the crime' knew fully well what he was doing was wrong, hence not directly shooting at children, hiding guns under blankets on route to the theatre and fully fatiguing himself in gear, knowing that a shoot out with police might ensue from the direct result of his planned attack. That is why the jury did not have problems finding him not criminally insane at the time of the shooting, as the prosecution clearly outlined their case to the jury. I agree, he has a mental illness and has been opined into being diagnosed as having physio-effective disorder, but that does not matter for an insanity plea.: 'knowing from right or wrong' at the time of the alleged crime was commissioned. James Holmes, in all likelihood, would have been sentenced to death, but one juror had issues with the death penalty in general and was there to save his life from the beginning.
@Marsbar12128 жыл бұрын
purplepeace59 no, the criteria for mental illness and diagnoses are very different in the forensic field and criminally speaking, compared to that of just private practice of treating mentally ill individuals, who do not commit violent crimes. There are caveats in the DSM version 5, (the diagnostic and statistical manual) where it is outlined for professionals to diagnosis individuals differently when a criminal act has been commissioned.

amberkitty666...LMAO, but there is a lot of truth in your statement. Factually, many depressed & other mentally ill "self-medicate" with drugs &/or alcohol. That's what keeps them sane enough to deal with their mental illness(s)!
@everyonewantsmedead7 жыл бұрын
Just because a court rules someone is not mentally ill doesn't mean they aren't mentally ill. It just means by LAW they don't consider them LEGALLY insane. Legally insane and true insanity are two TOTALLY different things!

What ..... He was determined to be severely mentally ill, just not legally insane for the trial, meaning be understood what he was doing. You can suffer from insanity yet not meet the criteria for legal defense insanity

If you watch this video it seems like this is an awareness video for psychosis and not a mass casualty interview of parent. Seems like they took a seperate video and applied it to the event. She seems as if she is more in agony for having to say something in order to stay free. She could be an actor or unwitting participant to the deception.
