Since I was 13 years old, I've always wanted to compete in Crufts. I've trained several dogs in agility in my life so far. (I'm 18.) My 4th trained dog, Cocoa, a 10 year old Cocker Spaniel, has recently achieved pro status at agility. I'm quite proud of him.

I love how they say the name of the dog first. Is it just me who thinks that makes it sound like the dogs brought the humans along, not the other way round?

"tug" is a game that most dogs (especially sporting dogs) go NUTS for. Even just a leash used as a tug is a huge reward for them after they run a course. Plus, there's no food/treats/toys allowed in an agility ring so the leash is really all they have haha

We started with 1 year of obedience training before agility.Then,for 2 years, we did agility training. We did 2 hours once a week for a lesson and 10-15 minutes each day at our house.But it will take time to learn everything, especially the weave poles.But if you work about 1/2 your horse time with your dog every day at 1-2 obstacles before moving on,you should progress at a good pace.I recommend having some obedience training first as it will help immensely and also taking lessons 1 time a week

In the future I would love to get into this sport. I was wondering how often and how long one trains with their dog. currently I'm a horse back rider, I ride my horse everyday just about. I don't really compete much, but when I do my training/practice sessions are around 30 minutes each time. I spend about 2 hours with my horse everyday. Thank you for all that can give me an estimate.
@dominikaisendi8 жыл бұрын
BubblyGumm a long time as the weave poles mostly take the most. you also need to work on handiling your dog and speed

Why do they give a penalty for missing an obstacle? Isn't missing it just as bad as a penalty?
@dominikaisendi8 жыл бұрын
Ilikesifsif if they miss the obstacle and keep going they get eliminated. if they go back and do it they get 5 faults.

I wouldn't dress up for agility. The people who dress up are the ones who are showing their dogs. For agility you need something which allows for free movement. I would just wear a shirt & pants, as seen in this video.

What's the point of showing dogs? All it does it make breeders breed for beauty and nothing else. The working lines look more like the breed standard than the show dogs do anyway, because form follows function, function does not follow form.
