The 3d illusion is outstanding! The moment the track starts swinging around,for example, is something quite unexpected for a 16 bit console.

My boyfriend and I played this a few days ago and had a creepy glitch here. I died and my boyfriend was battling Hatter alone when he managed to destroy the hat-ship. At that moment my boyfriend had gotten hit by a rabbit explosion and died. Instead of asking to continue, Hatter split into 2, (1 with an intact ship and 1 with the damaged one) and the screen soft locked while it went black and green. The enemy and boss sprites moved, and it looked like a rave with the music still playing. I caught some of it on video, creepy stuff!

Oh man, you're ABSOLUTELY right. It's pretty hard to design such a long boss, without making him boring and self-repeating. I can divide it to 3 categories: 1) Long and boring 2) Long and difficult 3) Long and EPIC (actually, this category was created only for two guys - this one and Seven Force)

These were the days when young programmers loved to make "demos" on 16-bit computers like the Atari ST or Amiga, doing intense assembly programming and exploiting nuances of the hardware to make impressive and often trippy visual effects. Whoever programmed this was definitely channeling that culture here. Very cool boss fight. I love a long boss fight if it's intense and not boring. Mission accomplished.

Amazing reflexes there. I only beat him in 4 minutes whereas you went through some tough random patterns, respect! Also, your reaction time and quick decision making far surpasses that of mine, you must be a very good gamer. Good job my friend.

It's amazing that the Sega Genesis was able to handle some of this 3D effect without using any chips. Another example is Dynamite Headdy and Red Zone. It can even handle Star Fox without the Super FX chip. This proves that the Sega Genesis was more revolutionary (better) than the SNES. The Super Nintendo pretty much used additional chips for their 3D games.

mostly likely is't just a set of sprite images switched between when they need a different one. There's no real "3-d" here, but a really well-done 2-d illusion.

Only if you don't kill him fast. overall i think Mr.Freeze is the hardest because he usually take 1 life form me and if i have the best green weapon i always finish the Mad Hatter boss in time without losing any life

Generally we reach this boss with low power due to the deaths in the previous levels... beat Mad Hatter this way is almost impossible.

The key to beating it easily is to stick with one weapon and only get that colored icon. If you accidentally or intentionally switch to another color, I think it screws you over. I once beat the game (without cheats) by sticking to the green weapons icon. The weapon got so powerful, I could just breeze through the game this way. Otherwise, the game feels nearly impossible.

The Hardest Boss on the Game, Even Harder than Mr. cold

I don't think so. If you have the strongest green weapon and you are smart enough to finish the mad hatter fast then he is very easy and i usually finish him without losing 1 life. However Mr.Freeze always take at least 1 life form me except 1 time i was lucky. If you don't finish the Mad Hatter quickly then he is the hardest.
