These guys were GOOD. Talk about getting in the groove. Apart from the longevity, I would make a comparison to the British band Wire

One of my favorite drummers. He's got groove and color. One of the few drummers whose role I can actually focus on, while other things are going on between guitar and bass, and be fascinated with what he's creating.

I know exactly what Hamish means about Mo Tucker's playing on What Goes On on The Velvet's double live album. It's absolutely steals the show for me every time I listen to it. It's amazing how it works...

Yep. Bought the cassette 'Velvet Underground Live With Lou Reed 1' somewhere here in New Zealand, sometime...memory's a bit shot these daze sorry. But I will never forget the songs on it. I've just pulled the cassette out of my rack. OK, it's got an 'HMV' sticker on the front with $11.95 on it & another sticker 'SPECIAL PRICE'...Anyhow on to Track #3 on Side One is 'What Goes On' - all 8min 54sec of it...and sure enough Mo Tucker's playing a single snare beat for the entire length of the song. It is unique too no doubt about that. There's no fills, no, cymbals, no pedal bass, no tom tom, absolutely nothing other than the sound of a single snare getting brushed. And you are quite correct - it is amazing how it works. If anyone else who is reading this doesn't know what we/I am/are on about here's the link to the song 'What Goes On' from the Velvet Underground Live With Lou Reed 1 here on KZbin: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4SbY35_jN-Zobc
