My signal path is the reverse of Trovarsi's technique. I have separate outs from my modular going into different channels in Ableton Live. I use Live effects on channels and on sends that I can mess with using a controller, like Ableton Push. I also have a couple guitar pedal effects that I can throw into the mix using a send/return module. My modular set up focuses more on sound sources, wave folders, filters, sequencers, and modulators and less on effects, so being able to take advantage of Ableton Live's effects (and the Max 4 Live integration) is the key to my hybrid set up.

That's a great setup too! I've done some variation of that as well. I think that's what I love about hybrid setups. There are so many possible ways to integrate hardware, and modular into the DAW. Have you tried the SoundToys effects? Those are some of my favorites. :)
@luctmelod3 жыл бұрын
@@Trovarsi Definitely! SoundToys are amazing. I only ever tried the demos, but I should really pick up the full versions. I was pleased to see that Ableton added some new effects with version 10. (I have yet to upgrade to 11.) I really like their Echo delay-reverb.

Yessss Trovarsi this was so exciting and inspiring omg. I think helped me clarify that a hybrid setup is what I want too, and I loved your straightforward and fun way of doing it ❤️❤️❤️

If you could cover how you sync your modular and Ableton through the ES9 in a future video that would be really useful, thanks!
@TomEhrlich3 жыл бұрын
You can either use CV tools and send clock to one of ES9 outputs (or any output on DC coupled interface) or you can create an audio clip with simple click loop. For this you don't need DC coupled interface (any interface with extra output will work) and you don't even need the CV tools. It's described in this video about syncing Tempi with Ableton kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z2jNl6J9bKx2nsk

Was looking forward to this. Yo! Some big inspiration here. I never heard a DPO make that kind of sound. And I’ve had one for 4 years and the thing is welded into my west coast case

And of cause the most important question about this setup, were to get your own blank panels?
@aaronjenkins3853 жыл бұрын
Great video, very inspiring. I was interested to see to erbverb pre-delay artifacts being used as a percussion source. I stumbled across this one myself a few weeks back 😀 do you also use the reverse mode at all ?it can add some interesting synchronised texture when clocked and predelay past noon.

Just got myself a new laptop. I already have a DC coupled Motu audio interface, a Launch Control XL and a beatstep pro. But I’ll be using vcv rack instead of ableton live.

That's a great setup too!!

I've got a similar setup and I switch between ableton and VCV depending on what I want to do. A hybrid setup and the endless possibibilties are just so powerful!
@Trovarsi3 жыл бұрын
I've heard a lot of good things about the Motu audio interface. I think it gives you more outputs than the ES9 correct?

So it can be any midi controller if the whole thing is set up correctly?
@Trovarsi3 жыл бұрын
Yes! I've used the K2s as well. Fun because that controller has faders.

Amazing video! I learned so much. Especially how convenient it is to have a decent mixer! I use a hybrid setup, but all of my mixing happens in Ableton and that is a bit of a pain in the ass, especially the latency when routing external send and return effects. Trovarsi, I'd really love to hear your opinion about mixing in Ableton with a hybrid setup. Is it even worth trying or should I just invest in a hardware mixer?
@jojoDUB3 жыл бұрын
I can only chime in and say I have the same problems with my hybrid setup and ableton as my mixer using a Launchcontrol XL. I do also love how flexible it is and would definitely miss the stereo channels if I used a WMD Performance mixer
@Trovarsi3 жыл бұрын
I would suggest using a Launchcontrol XL or something with faders & knobs so you can have more control. As for latency, it really depends on the specific audio routing and what other hardware you are using to determine how to solve that issue. If I could see your setup I could make a better/more specific suggestion to you. Shoot me a message me on IG. :)

Great sound from DPO/filter. Where is the DPO fold input signal coming from?
@Trovarsi3 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure I understand your question. Are you referring to the routing of both osc A and B?
@hardrainification3 жыл бұрын
@@Trovarsi Thanks for checking :-) DPO Osc B fold input (lower right hand corner) has something plugged into it. Curious what was the source for this modulation
@Trovarsi3 жыл бұрын
@@hardrainification Ahh :) I'm sending my sequencer pattern (gates) to that input. The sequence is coming from Ableton through the Mmidi by ALM.

Thanks for doing the deep dive into the individual module patching. Having all red cables still makes it a bit hard to follow. Maybe some colour coding (red-audio, green-cv, yellow-gate, or something?) Regardless looking forward to these types of videos in the future!
