Great video. I really like the fact that she started from nothing, explained what the modules would be used for and then went step by step and built everything up. More videos please.

That's so nice to hear, thank you! That is exactly what I was aiming for, as I know how complicated modular synthesizers can be. How about, Gen Harm II -- creating a B section, contrasting or modulating or otherwise such that you can 'escape' to B for a bit and then return home to A? Minimal or no additional patching? Just one of many possible continuations. Very informative and enjoyable. Thanks!
@PanicGirlVids

Yes, that's a lovely idea! One easy way to start a B section would be to store another set of notes in the René module on the Quantize page for example
@edwardnixon1782
@edwardnixon1782 2 жыл бұрын
@@PanicGirlVids Yes, I'm not so much into quantization unless I make up the tuning myself -- don't know René well enough to say whether that's possible.* My* first stop would be Mimeophon's schmushy (technical term) capabilities to open up into something in the atmospheric & granular space. Mine hasn't arrived yet so I'm speaking 'theory' here. As well as wishful thinking. Thanks again!

Nice. Also interesting inspiration what i can do with much "lesser" equipment. For this melody i think the Rene is overkill, i would be perfectly happy with a SQ1 on Random or maybe just a simple s+h for the melody, maybe with random gates in envelope. (both in the wogglebug for example).

Very educational tutorial! I'm new to modular and I wonder why the low pass gate and not a VCA?
@sonicspecter
@sonicspecter 2 жыл бұрын
You can use a LPG like a VCA, but LPG cuts the high end when closing. Technically it’s a VCA and a LPF in series that are controlled with the same envelope. Sonically the human ear perceives low and high frequencies with different loudness and the cut of the high frequencies while closing sounds more „natural“, „organic“, and „plucky“. Some LPGs also add resonant harmonics to the sound. It’s a Don Buchla thing…

Uhm, gosh!! Her voice is such a curve ball that I think I need to go and travel to the farthest English speaking places to the north and to the east of that Olde Worlde. Beautiful speaking voice, it’s hypnotic and so harmonic on its own, like the siren’s song. I’ve never heard anyone from North Unberland speak, I have no reference to compare that to. North Wales? Maybe she’s as American as Apple pie, the most exotic voices I’ve heard were products of the great melting pot. Don’t quantize that spoken voice. The patch is just as beautiful! THANKS FOR SHARING!!

Lovely video! Very informative! I don’t have a Wogglebug, but I do have a Rene 2: what were you patching into the modulation input in Rene? And are you attenuating whatever that signal is? And, lastly: does this technique add notes that aren’t strictly time quantized? Or is it just adding some variability to where the Y value jumps to when it gets the next clock in?
@dennisfallon6185
@dennisfallon6185 2 жыл бұрын
I’ve been wondering about that as well! Still trying to wrap my brain around it! From the Rene manual: Y-CV Input: Control signal at this input generate a number that is added to the number generated by the Y-Axis Counter, to create the Y coordinate. When René counts Snake Style, Y-CV selects stored set of coordinates.. Y-CV is normalled to +5V so that with nothing patched, the attenuator acts as an offset generator.

Super nice, but I don‘t understand how the sound from the Morphagene is perfectly in sync when you didn‘t use a gate for record / record stop. The ending of your recording was pretty random, how can it be all perfectly in sync?
@PanicGirlVids
@PanicGirlVids 2 жыл бұрын
I did try to record a "loopable" bit of the melody, but it was a bit of luck too for sure :) When I was trying out this patch before I recorded the video it didn't work out well to get a loopable bit, so I synced the Morphagene similar to the Mimeophon. But whenever possible I prefer the unsynced version, it sounds way more organic and playful!
@jimmyj6800

It doesn't actually sound perfectly in sync to me. I think you can hear it drifting slightly in and out when she has the mix knob in the middle.
