Don Cornelius told the audience at Johnson Products "The Great Model Search" in L.A.that he doesn't "do the microphone thing anymore" but that when he heard his only mentor was coming to town, he "thought he'd better get up out of his rocking chair and come to the El Rey Theater to help honor George E. Johnson", the man whose founded the company that sponsored Soul Train and kept it on the air most of its 35 years.
