Ohhhh!!!! I like this!!!! I learned a lot!!! My hair is mostly low porosity. I used to cut off a lot of hair because the middle sections were frizzy and the ends were defined. Thought I had heat damage, I don't even straighten or blowdry my hair ... I love clay washes!!! They work beautifully on my hair. I actually get defined hair with no product and airdrying. And finger detangling!!! Thanks, I'm gonna try the squeeze before washing.

After watching your video, I realize I have been moisturizing my hair so wrong. I always considered my hair normal porosity and would wonder why after wetting my hair, certain sections remained frizzy or wouldn't look as wet. It's because I have more low porosity hair than normal. Your hair is so similar to mine. This video was super helpful, thank you! Oh, and your hair is gorgeous. :)

I surely appreciate all the you do to help us curly girls learn about our hair. I get so confused when you...or anyone, that is..... talk about porosity. I get the part about the moisture in and the moisture out and all of that but to look at my hair and determine by the way it acts if it is high or low porosity is just never going to happen. I can only imagine that I must not be the only curly girl who is confused by all the talk about it. In researching low and high porosity and how to tell what kind of hair I might have I found an actual test where you put a clean hair in a glass of water and if it floats then you have low porosity hair and if it sinks to the bottom of the glass you have high porosity hair. Well, I have to tell you that was soooo simple!! A light bulb moment if you will. So much simpler than all the fussing with looking at my hair trying to figure it out. Finally!! And it may not be scientific but I have to tell you that it works. For the first time in my life I am now able to choose the correct products for my hair that really work. I had no idea my hair could look and feel so wonderful by choosing products. My hair hates protein! And what have I been doing all my life.....yep, using products that contain protein.....because 98% of all hair products contain some sort of protein. What a difference a hair in a glass makes. I can only imagine that your followers would be very pleased if you shared this info with them. Thanks again! Oops! One other thing I wanted to mention is that I have learned from conversations with product manufacturers and reading how to apply products that the proper sequence for products is.....shampoo, condition, moisturize with a leave in and then gel. The gel is always applied last to retain and seal in the moisture and control frizz. Another light bulb moment! ;) Keep up the good work.

+Melanin Pinkkk Google "cherry Lola treatment" & see if that helps you. I'm doing a maximum hydration method and one of the steps (& the most effective step in my opinion) is to do the cherry Lola treatment . you can also Google "maximum hydration for natural hair" & the steps should come up for you.
@makaylalucas68808 жыл бұрын
+Akia D thank you !!! I'll research it and try it and see if it works for me
@EmbraceNaturalBeauty8 жыл бұрын
+Melanin Pinkkk The Cherry Lola treatment involves the use of Baking Soda to raise the pH of the conditioner. It appears to work wonderfully for a period of time but eventually the cuticle layer of your hair strand becomes very weak and damaged. People who try this method find that overtime, which varies from person to person, the hair becomes dry and brittle. That is because the cuticle layer is so damaged it is no longer able to hold in moisture. It takes the hair from low porosity to high porosity...another struggle. I encourage NOT to do this method.

Hi there. I’m a low porosity girl as well. This vid was helpful. My tips are that heavy creams don’t seem to penetrate my hair. I usually put the heavy cream in a spray bottle and water it down with water or aloe juice if I’m feeling fancy and apply in the shower then apply a light oil. My preferred oil is sweet almond to seal and it helps my hair retain the moisture better.

Thank you so much, I finally understood why my deep conditioning was not working (I was just moisturizing my hair and not washing them with a clarifying shampoo). Thanks to you, everything changed for the best! I wash my hair with Calia purifying shampoo for dry hair I have 3 B/C low porosity hair. After the deep conditioning, (DIY: honey + olive oil+ glycerin) I wash my scalp using a mix of Amla and Shikakai powder with 3 drops of Ylang ylang essential oil. I condition with Garnier (French brand, sulfate and silicon free) Olive oil mask or Sante (organic german brand) normal hair detangler. Then I use Acure Leave-in conditionner + a touch of organic almond or jojoba oil on the ends. I twist brands of hair all over my head And I let my hair dry naturally. Twice a week I co-wash with sante detangler and I just put the Acure leave in conditioner and then I start again with a clarifying shampoo. Thanks to your advice, my hair look amazing. If you have another advice for me...

Natalia Inoa Hi Natalia, when I use the clay cleanser I do not sit under the dryer or steamer. I simply cleanse my scalp then apply more of the clay to saturate my hair so I can detangle with it. The clay contains a blend of oils that help make the hair slippery enough for detangling and it conditions as the same time. I use Wonder Curl Butter Than Love Pudding as my moisturizer and the Curl Control Styler Lotion and the Get Set Hair Jelly by Wonder Curl for styling my washngos. My normal porosity hair air dries in 2 hours. The Low Porosity area takes all day to air dry. I hope this helps!! :-)

Hi Abena just wanted to give you a brief update. I purchased Aveda shampoo & volumizing clay conditioner & I like them. The shampoo cleanses my hair without leaving it feeling stripped & the conditioner adds moisture. This is is my 2nd week trying them and it's getting better. The first week I had tons of tangles! I My fault! I neglected to deep condition but I won't do that again!!! I deep conditioned overnight with Deva Heaven in Hair then shampooed & conditioned the next day. (we have really hard water here in California - I use a shower filter - and a drought so I've got to be sparing with the water. 😔). Anyway I moisturized with the Butter than Love Pudding, added the Curl Control Styling Lotion & last of all the Get Set Hair Jelly. I'm happy with the results. I have more volume than previously. It's not voluminous but better than before. 👍🏽👌🏽Thank you so much for all of your help in making my natural hair journey more enjoyable. I'm looking forward to your future vids.

OMG you are so right! I had gotten my hair braided and my mom used my water and aloe Vera juice mix (which I kept refrigerated bc that's how a natural KZbinr did it) not knowing I had low porosity hair... And my mom sprayed that in my hair and then used some oils and moisturizer and my hair was just so oily and after a few days my braids are dry... So now it all makes sense now!! Plus I had got my hair dyed as well.. So I have a lot of growing my hair out to do! I don't want to big chop so I'll be patent! But thank you so much! That is so interesting that you don’t scrub your hair when using shampoo. I have fine hair strands which my hair easily tangles so often it is counterproductive to scrub it then when it come to conditioner. I also notice you don’t pre poo. 🤔 Got me thinking and still exploring the best way to wash my low Porosity hair. Hi, Abena I love this videos, new to knowing my porosity is low. over the year I've had so many struggles to my hair, excessive breakage, shedding, dryness. Now know it's low porosity. My question is should I cut my hair and start fresh? So disappointed in the setbacks! Love your videos, really helpful in understanding this new turn.
@EmbraceNaturalBeauty8 жыл бұрын
+Nap Freedom215 No, you don't need to start over. The low porosity section of your hair will always be drier and weaker the rest of your hair. It will shrink more too so you do not want to shorten all of your hair to match it. Just continue to nurture it so it can retain the maximum amount of length. Hang in there girl, you are not alone :)

Thanks for all the valuable information u bestow on us! I have been following the Maximum Hydration Method, a modified version now, for just about a year, however, I'm concerned about the baking soda and its alkalinity. I do, however, love the results as the moisture is getting in my hair. My problem section is that darn crown, smh! Because I have stopped using the BS as much my roots look like I need a perm lol and the ends are alot more moisturized. I feel like we have the EXACT same hair but it also seems as if my hair was ALOT more coily b4 using the MHM Method. Granted it was a big frizz puff ball until I defined my curls/coils, now it's more wavy when wet. My question, do u think its ok to continue with BS or am I just damaging my cuticles more and more? Sorry for the long windedness... lol
@EmbraceNaturalBeauty9 жыл бұрын
kizzie kente Hey girl, thank you for sharing this. The way to know if your cuticle layer is damaged is when you are getting moisture into the hair easily but no longer able to retain it. At which point the hair is overly porous (High Porosity). Based on the description of your hair, it sounds exactly like mine which means it is retaining moisture. If that is the case, you are fortune that your cuticle is still in tact. Continuing to use BS on the portion of hair that is absorbing and retaining moisture will lead to damage. So do not use high akaline products/ingredients on that part. To get the root to match the rest of your hair you can isolate that area and apply your BS mix there only. When I used the high alkaline castille soap I made sure the rest of my hair was loaded with conditioner and an oil to protect it from penetrating the hair strands. So I recommend you do something of that nature. As your hair grows make sure you monitor the porosity levels, because using the BS will speed up the change rapidly. And you do not want to overdo it. I would love to hear back from you at some point, so keep me posted on your progress. email: abena@embrace-natural-beauty.com Blessings!!

hi! I have been watching tutorials for days & you seem like I have hit the knowledge jackpot with you! my 13 year old finally wants to try wearing her hair down after having it in a tight bun for past few years. I have no clue about curly hair because I have straight hair. I believe she has 3C type curls and low porosity. we have tried tons of products over the years but since she hit puberty a few years ago her hair has changed so much! it has a ton of shrinkage and breakage. I am over whelmed by all that I am learning. would you be able to help me figure out if she has protein overload? we have been using Cream De Nature Shampoo & Conditioner & Shea Moisture leave in conditioner for about a year now. I just bought he Shea Moisture Low Porosity line and used that for 1st time. Her hair seems so dry and stiff even though we have never use anything but natural products. thank you, I have learned so much from you already.
