I almost gave up on "wash-n-go" because it looked like 2-3 totally different types of hair on my head. I had a "fro" in the crown, and ringlets in the back at the bottom and around the front edge, and crinkly in other areas. Nothing against a 'fro - had a big one in high school and after. I just don't like the craziness of 3 hairstyles on one head. I want either a whole "fro, or a whole head of crinkly curly. Following some of your tips I've been able to get more definition in the crown which generally resists curling at all -- just frizzy. But some days I still have to braid or bantu knot the crown to make it similar to the rest of my hair. Thanks for your well-articulated presentation and beautiful voice. You are talented and beautiful.

Im watching this in 2020. Thank you, this was very informative. I like the WLG method, and will be using it mostly when it gets warm outside. I have been using the WLO method during the cold months: water, leave in conditioner, oil. I will definitely try heating my conditioner, very good idea as I am low porosity👌👌
@EmbraceNaturalBeauty4 жыл бұрын
Glad it was helpful! Since you are using WLO how do you style your hair?
@lady_10764 жыл бұрын
@@EmbraceNaturalBeauty Hello, I dont style my hair at this time, I just let it be. It is very very short, around 3 - 4inches. So Im taking care of it and learning it, so it can grow. Once it gets long enough to style, I definitely plan to try different styles. I use to have very long hair down my back. But then over the years I stopped taking care of it like I use to. It became damaged and broke off, leaving me with very little hair and bald throughout the back of my head. Baldness was the wakeup call that made me start taking care of my hair. On 12-6-19, I began a hair care regimen and have remained consistent and I now have a full head of healthy short hair👌

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU For this!!! I have been struggle for a LONG time with achieving successful wash n go's. For the most part my curl patter is the same with the back bottom retaining more moisture and as I reach the top my curls being more loose and limp and frizzy. I have a section in the very front right bang where my hair will barely curl at all. I would often have to put it in rod sets to even try and blend it in with the rest of my curls. It has caused me much grief and frustration and I finally got to the point where I needed to know the science behind what was going on. I happened to stumble across this video and now I am FINALLY understanding what is going on with my hair. The top half of my hair is not retaining moisture as well as the bottom half! I'm SO elated! Now I can begin to PROPERLY nurse my hair back to health! THANK YOU SO MUCH!

sheka shavers it will not let me reply directly to your question. For hair that struggles to absorb moisture you will need to add heat...can be done a number of ways, but I think steam is the best and safest way to go. You can warm up the conditioner before applying it to your hair. Also, using the GHM (greenhouse method) can be helpful. This is when you keep the conditioner on overnight covered by a processing cap and scarf. It really allows low porosity hair time to soak up the moisture. Everyone's level of low porosity varies so the degree of steps to moisturize depend on the need. I hope this helps for now. I plan to share videos on the benefits to the various steps soon so I hope you are subscribed.

To allow for moisture to get in to your hair, you may also need to clarify your hair if it is laden with moisture blockers such as silicones. You can do so with a clarifying/chelating shampoo, a bentenite clay cleanse, ACV shampoo, etc.

Tg Gal Hi Tg Gal! How exciting to hear you will be trying the wash n go! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. The best results come from your technique, so be sure to start with freshly washed and conditioned hair. Give yourself a deep condition and rinse it all out, lol. Only keep a leave in conditioner in your hair since they are formulated for that purpose. The first time you do any new style is always about getting the feel for the process and a sense of how much product you need to apply. By the time I put my first video up I had been doing wash n gos for two years, and I am still finding ways to make it better. Be encouraged that it only gets better with practice. I would love to be of help to you on your journey. Please update me on your progress. God bless you and have a beautiful day!!

I'm Puerto Rican and Irish black, I have extremely frizzy hair even my children have frizzy hair and to top it all off I take a multitude of medication for the different conditions that I have one over being Lucas I went natural years ago when I became very sick, growing up people used to put oil in my hair up into my Auntie start taking care of my hair by taking me to a White beautician when she grow up my hair she explained that I have to use a lot of more stressful my hair and not oil, later on as I got older I realize that all next my head shed , if I got older I start using more more moisturizer... sometimes it could be very difficult..to keep my hair moisturize if that don't beat all I have a little girl who is going to be 12 years old she has hair all the way down her back, she has frizzy hair like mine like mine very very very very dry here no matter what we do her hair tangles up very badly and become very very frizzy and dry unlike my other three kids when they were little do you have any ideas for the both of us?oh and by the way I enjoy watching this video

Tracey Hanton Tracey Hanton The basics for maintaining your natural hair is having a routine/regimen for washing and conditioning followed by sealing moisture in. I recommend doing this on a weekly basis. Going from relaxed to natural can be done by transitioning anywhere from 6 months to even two years depending on how much hair you want to have on your head when you cut the relaxer out. If it helps to give you perspective, I did the Big Chop with 5 months of growth and you saw how short it was in my Journey to Natural video. Transitioning for you can be very simple. Since I see at church regularly I pretty much know how you wear your hair. I have some ideas of styles you may like. I think mentally preparing for the change is the first step. Having an image in your head of what you will look like helps to take the leap. I will inbox you via Facebook. Best regards, Abena

This instructional video shows me how to determine if my natural hair is absorbing moisture!! It's simple and straight forward instructions. Is GEL The only thing that will seal in the moisture? I have 3C/3B hair. I tried ECO gel when I first went natural a few years ago. The strand test showed that I have low Porosity hair. My hair just floats on the top of the water. You just showed me how to test for moisture absorption. I also realized that I'm not cleaning my hair properly. I've been watching the shampoo and conditioning videos all this week. I've learned a lot and about to apply this knowledge to my hair to improve my hair. My hair length is about 5 inches below my shoulders a lil longer in the back. I'm still learning how to care for my hair. I've never done a wash and go. I'm doing my first wash and go today. 🤞🏽✌🏽✌🏽✌🏽 I wish all the videographers would put their hair types in the video and in the description. I've been spending all my viewing time watching the Type 4's videos. I love their hair and styles 🙌🏽💗🙌🏽 Question: Are you still doing videos? I don't see any videos past 2016?

Is it a good idea to use cold water after a deep conditioner to seal you hair knowing it's low porosity?I thought warm water is better to seal it after deep conditioner because how is the leave in conditioner going to penetrate the hair shaft if it's closed?

Stumbled upon this video in my recommendations... Wow!!! The crown area of my hair gets dry very quickly... So that means its low porosity??? And requires more moisture??? I just so happened today to do a co-wash, and then instead of the LOC method, I did leave in conditioner, gel and then sweet almond oil. And 8 hours later, my hair is more hydrated then normal. I am following the curly girl method, no/low manipulation, and am just going into my 3rd month natural. My curls are flourishing, but I have some frizz and dryness in the crown portion of my hair. I am sleeping with the plastic cap and bonnet, to retain moisture overnight, and my hair loves that. Would your only suggestion be for additional hydration/WLG, then oil combination to see if that helps?
@EmbraceNaturalBeauty9 жыл бұрын
Cheri Lynn Hi Cheri Lynn, congratulations on starting your natural hair journey! I am happy to hear you are seeing some improvements when trying new tips and techniques. To best determine if your hair is low porosity I like to ask how long it takes to dry. For example, if the majority of my hair air dries in 2 hours, the low porosity hairs remain moist for an additional 10 hours. The next day, when all the hair is fully dry the low porosity section has less curl definition and is a little puffy, borderline frizzy, LOL. Then a few days later it may start to feel dry. Does this happen to you?
@MonCheriLynn9 жыл бұрын
Embrace Natural Beauty My TWA doesn't take long to dry at all... I would have to pay more attention to the drying time next wash. But from just looking at the last few months, the crown of my hair is the driest and most frizzy part of my hair. I'll pay attention and let you know. Thanks so much for the reply!!!

Alicia Biggins Hi Alicia, thank you for joining my channel. It is home made recipe I got right here on KZbin from MsChicoro. Here is the link in case you're interested. kzbin.info/www/bejne/q4LMapqnba9ogsk I customize it according to how much I need, and apply to my hair after blow dry/flat iron or a stretched style. It has a watery consistency with little slip so the one time I applied it on my old wash n go it took extremely long to detangle. So if you decide to try it, make sure your hair is detangled first. Funny, this video has nearly 8,000 views and no one has ever asked about my protein treatment, so thank you for you asking. :-) Blessings!

Great video planning to do protective styles but before i do i want to make sure my hair is in a perfect protein balanced mix. YOUR Thoughts on co-washing vs shampooing and why you don't do the co-wash. I was considering of buying the co-wsh shampoo from just nature;s a sort of conditioning cleanser, my twist out has ben dry by end of day and losing it wave pattern ... my hair is 4b .. when its dry no curl pattern or definition at all. im 1 year after transition chop and I noticed my hair got wet but not wet I did not know what that meant . thanks to your video I do now. I notice the LOC method has helped a bit however I think your method of water moisture absorbtion will be an added plus or the missing piece. some girls use the LOC then gel after wards . your thoughts on this method vs your WLG. Thank you Ethnic Black Hair
@EmbraceNaturalBeauty10 жыл бұрын
Kim D. Murray Hi Kim! Thank you much! My thoughts on Co-Washing vs. Shampoo--here is the perfect analogy, it's like bathing with lotion instead of soap because lotion is what makes your skin feel soft and smooth. I don't wash with lotion and I don't clean my hair with conditioner. They work together, one after the other for the complete experience of cleansing and moisturizing. I think there are so many misconceptions about why a persons hair is dry that they do not address the main factors. 1. product build up will block your hair from receiving moisture. Which leads to dry hair. 2. If your hair is washed and hydrated once every 2 to 3 weeks the shampoo is not stripping the oils out of your hair, your hair is dying of thirst. 3. Porosity issues play a factor in getting and retaining moisture, more so than "harsh shampoos" My thoughts on LOC vs WLG--some people swear by the LOC method. But I highly recommend (O) oil as last layer because of its ability to seal more so than the other types of product. My current regimen includes oil now as the final layer. During the winter it helps to keep the dry air from pulling moisture out of my hair since I use gel which contains humectants. Are you familiar with humectants?

Kim D. Murray I recently used Shea Moistures MANUKA HONEY & MAFURA OIL INTENSIVE HYDRATION SHAMPOO.....oh my goodness, it felt like I was washing with conditioner. I was very skeptical, as if they were only calling it a shampoo. But my hair and scalp were clean for a whole week before washing again yesterday. I have used it twice now and plan to share my review soon as I have time to record. I would recommend using the Shampoo, Conditioner and hydrating masque, what a wonderful moisturizing experience!

Thank you once again and ill keep an eye out for your review on the shea moisture product.

Kim D. Murray My pleasure. A few questions for you... 1. Do you air dry, diffuse blow dry or sit under hooded dryer? 2. Do you deep condition with steam, hooded dryer or processing cap? 3. How often do you wash or co-wash your hair?

Great video! Do you ever seal in the leave-in with oil before gel? If not, is there a reason why? thank you!
@EmbraceNaturalBeauty9 жыл бұрын
***** I do not put oil before gel for several reasons. 1. I want definition from the gel, it's needs to absorb and not be blocked by the oil.2. I want the oil to add lubrication for better separation and movement.3. In cold dry climate oil blocks moisture from getting drawn away from the hair if you use a gel with glycerin.

This was great. I would love to go natural Abena but how would I maintain my hair doing it?
@EmbraceNaturalBeauty10 жыл бұрын
Hey Tracey, the basics for maintaining your natural hair is having a routine/regimen for washing and conditioning followed by sealing moisture in.

I really enjoyed this. I learned much and I'm gonna try the WLG. The thing is that I have 4b 4c hair, and my hair can get super dry. The question would be what is the best gel to use for 4b most 4c hair? Your response would be greatly appreciated. Cheers😄

beverly john Hi Beverly, I am editing a video that should be helpful for you. The video is my review of 5 gel finishers. Each gel has slightly different results. What gel are you currently using?

None at the moment because I'm a bit concern with it becoming to dry and breaking from gel? Any suggestions would be great. Thanks

So after sitting under the dryer with the applied conditioner would I then drench my hair again and proceed on to seal with the gel?
