Hi Victoria. I would like to see more on external cause codes. Trying to find the where to start looking up code is usually my problem.

Thanks. This video in 10 minutes helped me more than my textbook or the guidelines. The textbook should give examples on what keywords to lookup.

Would you please make a video on frequent mistakes when coding with CPT, ICD-10-CM/PCS, HCPCS? And also HCPCS level II. I found an article online with tips for coding with ICD-10-PCS and it was very informative. Thank you for your videos!

This was great! I use external cause codes often since I code ER accounts. Now I am learning how to code outpatient accounts. Could you help with wound care cases? I see those alot and could use a few tips.

I don’t know anything about coding but have been thinking about a career change. This was great to see a video on you actually searching through the book and get a glimpse the coding process

Thank you for the video. The Index to External Causes of Injuries is a bit overwhelming. More so, the 'how' to find the right code. To find skateboard , need to search Accident/Transport/pedestrian/ conveyance. My question is , how can one more quickly 'be a thesaurus' to find the needed code. Others are more convoluted. Something like when one falls off something -- how to find the activity? If someone is changing a lightbulb, standing on 'whatever' and falls. The activity is changing a lightbulb, but I don't see any code under Activity that would cover this. I'm taking far too long to try to find the code in the Index to External Causes of Injuries. Also, the External Cause Status. Is that always coded with incidents. I know the guidelines state it is. not used with poisonings, adverse effects, 'misadventures' or late effects. Does it come last? Regarding the sequencing of the External Causes codes. Guidelines really say that they are sequenced after the main external cause code. It doesn't indicate the sequence of those that are used after the main external cause code. Aside that you stated the place of occurance comes last. Though I'm not seeing that in the guidelines. Thank you

Would love to see more external cause examples! especially at how you place these as 2nd codes as they cannot be placed as a 1st listed code.

Hi Victoria, question on the place of occurrence for being struck by the brick from a building under construction. I’m having a hard time understanding why you go to “struck by” instead of “construction area >> industrial and construction area >> building under construction Y92.61?”
@thesilenceiscoming Жыл бұрын
"Struck by brick" is the external cause code, or what caused the injury. This would go after the code for the injury itself (like a laceration to the head) and before the place of occurrence code (like you said Y92.61).

Do you have any videos that will help a beginning coder get their typing speed up? Is it hard to get a remote medical coding job working from home? I really enjoy watching your videos. I am learning that I did not know. I take notes as I watch your videos.
@kimberlyagee73382 жыл бұрын
You do not have to know how to type to do medical coding.

this was extremely helpful! Coding for sites that have the CAC- automated coding I find pick up too many codes. One in particular is the lives alone code, Z60.2. my question is when and why would you use this code? I could see if a patient fell and injured themselves and lived alone maybe... maybe this might be used? Just a strange code to use but what do I know! thank you!

Hello. can you explain how we search for "Activity" patient was doing? "Lucy was standing on a chair in the kitchen of her apartment changing a light bulb when she slipped and fell"

I know this isn't related to the video but what are the differences of CPT codes 20661 and 20664? Just encountered these codes during a practice exam and I have no clue the difference.

Here's a question: I code for ED, and we will have staff who are assaulted by patients. When an assaulted healthcare worker then becomes the patient, why don't we have Y07 - code to indicate a patient was the perpetrator of the assault? What's the best way to capture that?

I'm currently in class/online school for coding, and I struggle with external causes. For instance, a current problem I'm stuck on is a black widow spider bite. I got the code for the bite, but it's saying I need a second code. How do I know what else to code? Where do I even start? Is it the place of the bite, the activity she was doing?
