Just typed this into chatgpt and the findings was surprising. What is the correct cpt code for a radical resection of a 6.7 cm sarcoma of the soft tissue of the upper back? ChatGPT said: ChatGPT The correct CPT code for a radical resection of a 6.7 cm soft tissue sarcoma of the upper back would depend on the specific details of the procedure, such as the depth and anatomical involvement. Based on the information provided, the most appropriate code would likely fall under CPT codes 21552-21555, which are for excision of soft tissue tumors of the back or flank. Here's a breakdown: 21552: Excision, tumor, soft tissue of back or flank, subcutaneous, greater than 3 cm. 21554: Excision, tumor, soft tissue of back or flank, subfascial (e.g., intramuscular), less than 5 cm. 21555: Excision, tumor, soft tissue of back or flank, subfascial (e.g., intramuscular), greater than 5 cm. For a Radical Resection: Since the tumor is 6.7 cm, and if it involves deeper layers (subfascial or intramuscular), CPT code 21555 is likely the most appropriate. If the excision was limited to subcutaneous tissue, then 21552 may apply. You should confirm the depth and anatomical structures involved in the resection, as this determines the exact CPT code. Additionally, include any codes for complex closure or reconstruction, if performed. Chatgpt got it wrong lol.

Veronica you are a spot on. I have owned and managed a medical billing agency for 33 years. I agree with you about the new start up AI companies that have influenced hospitals, medical groups and physicians to purchase AI. I was contacted in 2024 to audit coding and billing for 2 medical groups (on call hospital trauma and neuro surgeons )that purchased AI to reduce their billing costs. Both groups stated they had significant reduction of income. Our audit revealed a loss in 12 months of $748,000 for 1 and $970,000 for the other. Basically all that the remaining billing staff were doing was pushing the claims go button upon patient discharge. Absolutely no human eyes 👀 on patient medical records. And Absolutely no human 👀 on any claims going out. What 😂!! I will conclude with … Veronica you said it well….AI and humans need to partner in medical coding. And coming from a Senior Professional in the field that has seen it all in my career I will say to those medical coders,medical billers and managers, and those that would like to pursue this career, my opinion is your experience and knowledge is still greatly needed. Do not get discouraged and stay on track with your careers and continuing education. And Veronica thank you for your commitment to this career and your outstanding you tube community that are fortunate to have you as their teacher/ mentor. You are a Gem❤. Wishing Everyone a blessed 2025.

Can a migrant work in the USA as a medical coder if he passed certification?
@ContempoCoding19 сағат бұрын
Thank you for your interest in medical coding! It’s important to note that medical coders based outside the U.S., in countries like India, typically earn significantly less than coders in the U.S. This is largely due to cost-saving measures by companies that outsource these roles. Additionally, fewer companies are offshoring coding positions because of legal concerns with HIPAA compliance and the penalties associated with data breaches. If you’re considering medical coding as a career, I recommend researching opportunities in your local market to better understand the demand and pay scale for coders in your region.

is the AAPC extern ship program good? I’m considering going with them, but I want to make sure that they have the extern ship.
@ContempoCoding19 сағат бұрын
Opportunities through the AAPC externship program are very limited, and experiences with externship sites can vary depending on the location and the participating organizations. I recommend checking out the AAPC Project Xtern page to learn more about what’s available in your area and what to expect. www.aapc.com/resources/xtern-program

I've noticed different job titles in medical coding such as inpatient, out patient, ER, surgery, etc. Are these sub specialties in medical coding? Does one need further education to learn sub specialties? Is seems like the salary ranges vary a whole lot depending on what you know and experience. Im truly considering this profession as it's gonna be my 3rd pivot (within the pass 2 years) in trying to get out of my job. I am a healthcare worker.
@ContempoCoding21 сағат бұрын
he different job titles you’ve noticed, like inpatient, outpatient, ER, and surgery coding, are indeed focused areas or sub-specialties within medical coding. While you don’t necessarily need further education to start in these areas, gaining additional certifications (like CIC for inpatient coding or COC for outpatient) can help you specialize and potentially increase your salary. Salaries do vary depending on the complexity of the coding, certifications, and experience, you can find out more at the AAPC salary survey: www.aapc.com/resources/medical-coding-salary-survey

So I just signed up and I’m a bit nervous. I know this video was a few years ago and I hope you see this message. I keep seeing you should take exams through AAPC or NHA. The exam offered in the master class through Preppy is the National Workforce Career Association for the MBCS. Will this certification be legit and get me in the door for a job while working towards CBCS and CPC? I work really hard for my money and really don’t want to waste it. Please help.
@ContempoCoding21 сағат бұрын
The MBCS certification through the National Workforce Career Association (NWCA) can be a stepping stone, but it’s not as widely recognized by employers as the CPC (AAPC) or CBCS (NHA). If your goal is a coding position, you’ll need the CPC, as the CBCS is primarily for billing roles and won’t be accepted for coding jobs. That said, the MBCS might help you get an entry-level position or gain experience in the revenue cycle while working toward your CPC.
@lisasmothers202220 сағат бұрын
So is the preppy course worth the time or should an entry level individual like myself go to the AAPC website and study from there? Likewise the preppy course says it prepares you for all tests; is this true? Meaning after Preppy can you go to AAPC and pay to take the CPC or would you not recommend that? Thank you for your reply.

Feel free to use last year's books, but just know you might be at a slight disadvantage. For the full scoop, check out AAPC's official guidance: www.aapc.com/certification/faq.aspx " What year's books should I use? All AAPC exams are based on the current calendar year’s code sets, so we strongly suggest you use the current year’s books. The previous calendar year’s books may be used on an exam, but you would be at obvious disadvantage doing so. The upcoming year’s books are not allowed for exam use. The exams are updated every January for the new code sets." Hopefully you or your staff will see and respond to my question. So , I have a CPC-A and am thinking about getting a Certified risk adjusters certification, I’m actually thinking about taking your companion course, then sitting for the AAPC exam, my question is after taking the exam, will I receive another apprenticeship and have to complete something else to receive the certification. I’m already having a hard time finding a job because no one wants to hire someone with an apprenticeship, even though I have an associates in health information technology and have been working in healthcare for 10 years. Thank you advance for your advice.
@ContempoCodingКүн бұрын
You don't need to worry about an apprenticeship after the exam to get your Risk Adjustment certification. The apprenticeship status is only for the CPC and COC credentials.

There aren’t any questions on the exam that are purely focused on math-so no need to worry about trig or calculus! However, there may be some calculations related to calculating a RAF score on the CRC. So like, 6th grade level math.
