Would have loved to see a few more of the creatures shown at the start, like the tortoise, terror birds, penguin, Harpagornis, Argentavis and Purussaurus.

8:53 It's been replaced by Vasuki indicus as the largest snake to ever have lived recently
@indyreno29334 күн бұрын
Actually, Vasuki indicus is not a true snake, madtsoiids are not snakes as they are not part of the suborder Serpentes.
@riturajkalita49494 күн бұрын
@indyreno2933 I couldn't find any reference or fact verifying Madtsolidae are not snakes actually....
@indyreno29334 күн бұрын
@@riturajkalita4949, "snake" refers exclusively to the suborder Serpentes just like "hyena" refers exclusively to the family Hyaenidae, therefore, Titanoboa cerrejonensis was the largest snake that ever lived just like Pachycrocuta brevirostris was the largest hyena that ever lived Madtsoiids like Vasuki indicus are not snakes because they are not part of the suborder Serpentes, they're just an extinct family of superficially snake-like squamates only closely related to snakes Dinocrocuta gigantea is not a hyena because it does not belong to the family Hyaenidae, like other members of the genus, Dinocrocuta gigantea belongs to a separate but closely related family called Percrocutidae, which includes other fairly similar genera like Percrocuta, Adcrocuta, Belbus, Allohyaena, and Tongxinictis

Your video is incorrect The closest living relative of the ngandong tiger is actually the sumatran tiger, siberian tiger is actually the closest living relative of the extinct wanhsien tiger The closest living relative of Arctotherium species is actually the spectacled bear not the polar bear, like all short-faced bears, both the spectacled bear and members of the Arctotherium genus belong to the subfamily Tremarctinae whereas the polar bear is a member of the subfamily Ursinae The closest living relatives of the diprotodontoids, the superfamily containing the extinct primitive wombat-like mukupirnids, the extinct rhino-sized diprotodontids, and the extinct marsupial tapirs are actually the macropods and possums, whereas the vombatoids, the superfamily that contains the extant wombats and koala and the extinct ilariids is the second most basal superfamily of diprotodonts, with the thylacoleonoids, the superfamily containing the extinct maradids, wynyardiids, and marsupial lions are the most basal of all the six superfamilies of diprotodonts, all diprotodonts other than the extinct thylacoleonoids fall under the clade Phalangerimorphia Glyptodonts like Doedicurus clavicaudatus had no closest living relatives, all armadillos belong to the family Dasypodidae while glyptodonts are a separate family (Glyptodontidae) Gigantopithecus blacki is actually more closely related to orangutans than to humans, both Gigantopithecus blacki and orangutans belong to the subfamily Ponginae, which includes all great apes native to Asia while humans are in the subfamily Homininae, which includes all great apes native to Africa like gorillas, chimpanzees, and bonobos Megalania prisca is actually more closely related to other oceanian monitor lizards than it is to the komodo dragon (Dinodraco komodoensis), the similarities are due to convergent evolution Carcharocles megalodon is not closely related to mako sharks, the former belongs to the family Otodontidae within the extinct order Anacoraciformes while the latter belong to the family Lamnidae within the order Lamniformes Recent studies show that the cuvier's colossal ground sloth (Megatherium americanum) is actually more closely related to three-toed sloths (genus Bradypus) than to two-toed sloths (genus Choloepus), which on another hand are actually more closely related to the darwin's ground sloth (Mylodon darwini), both megatheriid ground sloths and three-toed sloths belong to the Megatherioidea superfamily while both mylodontid ground sloths and two-toed sloths belong to the superfamily Mylodontoidea Mosasaurs (suborder Mosasauria) are actually more closely related to both amphisbaenians (suborder Amphisbaenia) and snakes (suborder Serpentes) than they are to lizards (suborder Lacertilia) Straight-tusked elephants (genus Palaeoloxodon) are actually more closely related to both asiatic elephants (genus Elephas) and mammoths (genus Mammuthus) than they are to african elephants (genus Loxodonta), which are actually more basal The siberian rhino (Elasmotherium sibiricum) was the largest rhino that ever lived, paraceratheres are not rhinos as they are a different family, in fact, the white rhino (Ceratotherium simum) is one of the closest living relatives of the extinct woolly rhinos (genus Coelodonta) Albatrosses (family Diomedeidae) belong to the order Procellariiformes while the extinct pelagornithids belong to the extinct order Pelagornithiformes Perucetus colossus has no closest living relatives, the sperm whales (superfamily Physeteroidea) had many extinct forms like Livyatan melvillei Sarcosuchus imperator is not a crocodile and not a crocodilian, but a member of a stem group that gave rise to crocodilians Titanotylopus is actually more closely related to the bactrian camel (Oreocamelus bactrianus) while the dromedary (Camelus dromedarius) is more closely related to Camelops

You made a few mistakes concerning the closest relatives of some of them, for example, the closest relative of the short faced bears are the spectacled bears of south america

And he contradictshimself a couple times, too. He said that great big whale, Perucetus, lived in the Miocene but the written info states it died out 38 MYA which would be the Oligocene.

Fun fact, the spectacled bear is the last living short-faced bear species.
