If anyone was confused at first, the photo of the 1893 rifle actually shows an 1892 experimental rifle 0:23 , the final 1893 would not have the magazine sticking out. Apart from that great vid as always!

Thanks, I completely missed that. I assumed the 1892 and 1893 were the same, definitely should have checked

I have one of these, given to me from a friend. Unfortunately it was in horrible condition; severely rusted and entire lower handle was cut completely off for some reason. Basically it is scrap metal! At the time he gave it to me, it was so rusted I couldn't see any markings at all. Because I was bored and intrigued at identifying what it was, I commenced salvaging it. I managed to get down through the rust enough to reveal the faint ricasso and what was left of the rest of the bayo. Surprisingly, I brought it back to life pretty well! Still sad it was cut down (why?!?!?!?!) but nonetheless, still kinda cool having something that old, in that bad of shape, that cleaned up so well. I keep it in the extremely unlikely case I stumble across ANOTHER destroyed M1913 I could salvage a handle... LOL What can I say; I dig bayo's! Thanks for spelling out the lineage and for showing me what mine COULD have looked like... Zk

I believe, for the Toledo Markings, there is also an earlier marking that is a bit more smushed looking while the one you presented is the later variant. I’ve seen both on eBay though the later marking style is more prevalent. Great video!

It is rare to find these with the scabbard leather in good condition, most Spanish bayonets were heavily buffed before being surpluses.probably to make them more attractive to buyers.not sparing a thought for future collectors.

The timing on this could not have been better. I just got one of these with my 1916 short rifle a couple days ago. Mine is in solid condition, but I was hoping you might know something to do with the scabbard. Mine seems to be the correct model of scabbard, but it seems to have lost the inner wood parts to make it solid. It's floppy (which got a good laugh out of me the first time I took it out) and it has wear marks on the leather as if it had the wood inside. Do you have any ideas on this? As for the Short Rifles, some don't really have any markings on them aside from the serial number, which is how mine comes. No crest on the receiver, no year of manufacture, no proof marks. The only other marking on mine is 7.62 for the conversion Spain did. I found a website compiling known ranges of serial numbers, and they don't really have a good way of pinpointing manufacture years of such rifles, or exact number of those rifles manufactured.

Not too surevwhay to do with that, if the problem was only the spring it's easy enough to put a slight bend back into it

@@pointynotsharp8436 That's on me, I didn't explain that quite right, I mean to say there is nothing inside the leather to keep it straight anymore. It is completely flaccid, its basically a sheath at this point. Again, I don't mind it because it is absolutely unexpected for a Bayonet scabbard, and pretty funny by extension.

can you wear a bayonet without a frog simply by shoving it in your belt like a katana since the frog stud may help keep it in place

You probably could, not the best practice though

Mine got a different type of serial number, it got the serial number like on yours, but it got a "D" stamped under it, which reminds me on the Mauser Style numbering, the serialnumber on mine is 5583 D, mine is worn down too, i think literally any Spanish M1913 bayonets are worn down like yours or mine
