Tour this extra small tiny house! It was built by Seth Reidy from Nelson Tiny Houses in BC, Canada for a travelling, bird-watching minimalist friend who wanted a simple home on wheels. This tiny home is just 16-feet long, including the 2-foot bump out for the kitchen counter. It has open concept shelving, a small workspace with storage below, a ladder up to the sleeping loft, and a spacious living room with a wide bench for sitting, napping, and hanging out, that also has loads of storage space beneath it. As an extra space to sit, there are hooks for a hammock that can be hung across the living room. The bathroom will have a shower and toilet but hadn't been completed at the time of our visit.
For Seth, it was fun to build such a tiny house because it's reminiscent of the size of tiny we used to see at the beginning of the tiny house movement. He has built many beautiful tiny houses of all different sizes and you can check them out on his website, Instagram and KZbin, linked below.

It's an educated guess on my part that photographers use short focal length lenses in such videos to make spaces appear larger than they actually are. Is someone trying to fool us? I dunno, but I do know something about photography.

@Jon Commons 8 x 16 might be near to the size of a rental cabin we see sometimes. Mini kitchen, etc. They work. The main problem with that size range isn't so much the living space, but little room for seasonal clothes and current clothes. Then there's the hobbies. Oh the hobbies. Art supplies for my spouse. Model airplanes and trains, firearms, ham radio, archery, and books. Where will those along with support supplies for each be stored?

Great video. I'm not a fan of the fancy tiny homes with 35 foot trailers and jumbo washer dryer combos etc etc. There's something very strange about what's been happening in the tiny house movement with regards to the original call to minimalism and simplicity vs glam tinies. I'm an old school fan: wood, tiny size, warm feel, simple, rustic, cozy. Lloyd Kahn and Jay Shafer stuff😂

You do realize that there's a spectrum of commitment to tiny, right? Like, people have different needs. I think people choose to live in a tiny house for different reasons. Try to keep an open mind.
@brandonb7120
@brandonb7120 4 жыл бұрын
@@fredkennedy8435 there's also no issue remembering where the movement has come from, which originally was based on needs and minimalism. Also on "keeping an open mind" does that mean the judgement by the tiny house community on home owners with McMansions is wrong? Given that houses originally started out small and grew because of the different spectrum of wants to where we've reached the point we have now?

This is not meant in a mean way: It looks more spartan/frugal than minimalist to me. Perhaps those terms aren't mutually exclusive, maybe I've just come to associate minimalism with this very clean but still comfortable style that is popularised on KZbin... Idk, he obviously doesn't own much, but it still looks a bit too cluttered for my taste. But I really like how small his house is. I find it a bit strange how big tiny houses have become since they first started, so seeing someone get back to the basics is really nice and refreshing. I'm hoping to build my own tiny Tiny House one day, similar in size to this.

This may be an unpopular opinion but I'm tired of the "back in the olden days" talk that is happening in the movement. To me, the nostalgia is getting old. It's like, we get it, tiny houses used to be super ultra tiny. As the movement got more and more popular, people wanted a house that was bigger than a backyard shed. I think that's fine! Not everyone wants to live like they're on Little Houseuse on the Prairie(no running water ECT)! I don't necessarily agree with the other side of the spectrum where people are building 50 ft tiny houses but at the end of the day, I don't know that person/family's situation. I think the movement has balanced out to the 24-30 foot range and that's the length I hope to build at! Extremes aren't good for all people so just let folks try to do what's best for them in peace please! There's an almost elitism manifesting itself in this 'your house isn't small enough' mentality. In my mind it stems from the same judgement that happens on regular homes when you didn't have 3000 square foot property. That's just my two cents, I'm really curious about what others think?
@qrm8772
@qrm8772 4 жыл бұрын
I appreciate the sentiment behind your statement. But I do think that there is something strange when a person spends 60-100+k on 300sf when they can buy a nice home for that. It just seems to defeat the purpose.That being said,there are some awesome tiny builds out there.
@popcorn1304
@popcorn1304 4 жыл бұрын
@@qrm8772 Reply, Thanks for replying!I feel that, Q. I still think this to an extent too. In my area you can get a nice starter home for around $40,000 but I understand cost of living varies so greatly across the U.S. and the world. Many videos Ive seen with homes that expensive are comparing to a regular home for like $1 million, so comparatively, it's a better deal than if I want to build one. I think it's responsible to build with higher quality materials and see their home as an investment rather than a throw-away two year project. And if they got it like that, then they got it like that lol. I think of the movement in abundance meaning there can be a variety of ways to do it 'right', ya know. I think most people take issue with how much coverage the really fancy homes get. I think there needs to be a balance. we have to be diligent about making sure to cover the super lux houses along with the DIY projects and/or the ones that only use recycled materials. Again, just my thoughts.

You might get a bit stir crazy with that long term. Like the concept though. A new trend is the "minimalist lifestyle." Living by bare bones. A way to not only cut many expenses but also to save money which will grow wealth. But is this good for you? As I told my own subscribers, I contend that instead of having an existence of "minimalism," living in a shack and a sleeping bag, you should adopt the mindset instead. In other words, you don't have to deprive yourself and suffer to have the minimalist mindset which will give you money to invest. The minimalist mindset person will buy only what he needs. He won't go in the winter without a coat but will by the cheapest one that does the job--not the designer label. He won't buy a 50K car when he makes 80K a year. He'll buy the 15K Honda Civic used one and save money on a lesser car payment, insurance and gas. He doesn't go to TGI Friday's every week--he goes once a month and grills at home the other three weeks. He brings his coffee from home and doesn't spend 4 bucks twice a day at Starbucks down the street from his office. See the point? You don't have to live like a monk. The minimalist mindset just cuts down on the unnecessary. If you do this you will find that not only do financial problems disappear but you will grow a ton of assets on the side. Hope this helps someone out there---Charles

You promised a link to the tiny house owner’s channel so we could check it out after the bathroom was completed; I could not find the link in the video description. May we please have that link? Take care, be safe, all my best and God bless!!! Chuck Knight from Buffalo, Texas. 🤠👨‍🌾✝️🙏🐩

I live in the UK the average 2 bedroom new build here is around 23ft x 15ft foot print, so when I see some tiny homes they're not that tiny to me, this a true and very nice tiny home. But agree it depends on your needs.

This is a great layout for a super tiny. Love the wood work. I do have to say, they guy living here doesn’t appear to be a minimalist. Lol

La tiny está muy bonita y bien repartida, se supone que por ser pequeña debería ser minimalista, a esa casita no le cabe un chechere más 😅 debería tener menos cosas se vería menos abarrotada y más organizada. 😁

He didn't show us the bathroom. I wonder why? Too much exposed stuff. Too busy. Messy!

Genius in artistic and functional simplicity. Really like the shelving around the future bath space. This is a real true tiny house. Sorry to see the movement morphed into mini monstrosities.Sorry,but I'm starting to voice my disappointment in what our current culture deems as necessities.
