I have a Filterless Extract fan installed in my bathroom, and what a difference it has made in my bathroom, no more mould growing on the roof and the walls are dry a few minutes after showering, its amazing!

Hi, they can be installed on either the ceiling or the wall. I have an inline version in my bathroom, it was installed in the attic space above the bathroom. I did have a cheaper vent-axia fan installed only a year before I got the EnviroVent fan, it wasn't able to cope with the resistance created in the ductwork and did very little. I believe EnviroVent has upgraded the Filterless Fan and it is now called the Cyclone.

I know you didn't but it looks like you blew the counter out the test rig when you blew in the fan sensor pipe. It made me chuckle. On a more sensible note this is a great video. I'm a domestic/ commercial electrician and I have continuous problems with extraction from bathrooms and kitchens, most of my work is in LOndon city centre where quite often these rooms don't have windows so extraction is important. Does anyone know where I can obtain one of these test rigs? Or a extractor fan test kit from?

There are 12V versions of these fans, which are safe for bathroom installations of this sort. The pull cord can be removed, as it is used for manual boost, usually for odour control. can one of these fans be installed inside the shower cubicle to replace the incompetent fan I already have. If so can it be installed without the pull cord as I feel it will be in the way hanging down inside the shower cubicle. Thanks.

My envirovent silent 100 has a light on the front but isn't doing anything at all - why?

lanky386 the 12 volt version can be installed inside the shower cubicle and we now have a version without the pull cord.

Some fans are suitable for bathroom only, the best thing to do is to contact your local EnviroVent ventilation specialist for a free home survey, they will be able to advise you which fan is best for your individual requirements. With regards to grease, the advantage of the filter less fan in the video is the cyclone separation technology and the fact it is easy to take apart for cleaning now and then. Well my xpelair 100t isn't that quiet and isn't extracting steam still have to open the window but it's letting in a lot of cold air into the bathroom even when it's off and it's only been in since September 2017 my bathroom used to be lovely and warm now it's freezing no wonder they put a electric fan heater on the wall but it's not low vol costs a fortune to run . Total waste of time and money

this is a flawed test, regardless of how high the tube is, if the weight of the piston inside can be overcome, it will carry on up until the internal restriction of the tube due to friction became too high, which would be around 400m high. If you want to show how effective the fans are at moving air, have it work against a resistance.

Hi Nick, each fan that is installed, be it straight through a wall or out through a ceiling, will create resitance; from the ducting, from the grills etc. This rig test is designed to simulate the resistance you would get from a normal fan installation, straight through the wall with a grill. If the fan is able to do 15 litres per second (which is what building regulations recommend), then the puck should move up the tube. The first fan that is tested (not an EnviroVent fan), says it will do 20+ litres per second on the box, but as soon as it faces any resistance, it can't achieve the flow rate needed to move the puck.
