We are starting a new deep dive playlist today because I love them so hard. First up in the botanical extracts vs essential oils playlist is defining them both, and discussing the differences and when you should use one over the other.
Soap & Clay is a family owned business operating in Washington State, but started out online thanks to Mrs. Soap & Clay's kickass brother and his amazing web design skills. The business was started as a tribute to Mrs. Soap & Clay's grandmother, the OG maker in the family that cultivated everyone's love for the DIY life. The studio/retail shop opened in 2017 on 6th Ave in Tacoma, and immediately began teaching soap, bath bomb, lotion, and scrub classes to the makers and maker enthusiasts of the PNW. In 2019, the pottery studio opened as well, making the soap shop a busy place full of artistic energy every minute of the day.
Mrs. Soap & Clay has been featured on Business Spotlight, New Day Northwest, and was awarded a coveted place on the South Sound's 40 under 40 list in 2019, an award given to the most influential business people under the age of 40 each year. She cried when she walked up to the podium to accept the award. A lot.
Drawing from her chemistry background and her maker spirit, Mrs. Soap & Clay infuses her favorite things into her soapy designs and creates products that are fun to see, use, and learn to make. Stick around for this ride - she'll take you on a great one.

I am so glad you covered this. I have been looking for a place to find affordable extracts. I have seen a lot of videos that have shown how to make your own extracts by crushing the thing you want to turn into an extract into alcohol and letting it cure for six weeks. I have a few curing right now to test them out but I am particularly curious about buckthorn. Oh so so much to learn, but man you have been an amazing teacher! Love you!

I am very excited to learn more. I love my natural colorants and I would like to use more essential oil blends and extracts. I have been hesitant because I don't want to mess up a whole batch. Thank you Mrs! ❤💚💙

I love using dragon fruit extract. I've also used roses to make my own extract, is that safe? Loved the spreadsheet!

Excited for this playlist. I’m curious as to how little of an extract is actually beneficial and how much is too much 🙏🏻

Side related- how do you know how much to use to get the benefits and still stay SAFE. I’m working on a face serum and a beard balm but I am not sure how much to use - both of the extracts and carrier oils. And where to find good information on how much of the EO’s stays in the safe range. Researching just that online makes my head implode. Too much conflicting or ulterior motive information.

There’s a lot of that about! I tend to use all extracts based on their dilution, but that can be hard to find as many sites don’t list it. We’ll definitely cover that in an upcoming vid!

Ok….I can’t even listen to what your saying because I’m obsessed with whatever you doing. Is this a program someone who is new can use to help create products? And when you say members are you talking about discord? I’m not the best when it comes to all these groups.
