The soft “c” and soft “g” sounds come from palatalizations of those letters in Vulgar Latin. If an English word has a hard “c” or hard “g” before “e,” “i,” or “y,” that means the word has nothing to do with Latin (at least not Vulgar Latin). Why is the English language so screwed up? Probably because England might be out of place compared to many other European countries!

The verb "send" needs an object, so sentences 2 and 5 don't work.

My Madam, I'm from Sri Lanka Please give me an suggestion to overcome this barrier. Eventhough, I can speak English fulllently, when I deal with customer I'm unable to speak continuously. not all the time. Also, I'm new to this company vocabularies when I started working they were speaking in a formal way What is happening is ,when i speak to customers I'm unable to get the follow. Problem as follows: 1)some vocabularies new to me 2) company ask me to speak in formal way 3)lack knowledge about the product. 4)I struck when I use ear burds it's not comfortable to me ,if I use that one ,I am unable to predict my voice speed . Hi! I watched one of your videos which was very helpful about the difference between pronunciation of short vowels "o" and "u". And I thought I was done with these sounds. But a new confusion just popped up. The letter "a" makes three sounds: short a, long a and ah as my book says (actually not mine but my 7 year old daughter 🙂). What this ah sound is? As far as I understand this the sound as in "awesome" or "law". Is it the same sound as in "poppy" or is it different? How about the word father? I hear the same sound in poppy/awesome/father but the transcriptions in all three words are different. I am so confused. Could you please help me to understand this. Thank you

Hmm, I'm not sure what your book is saying. Is it American English? In our accent, I think "poppy", "awesome", and "father" have the same sound, which is that AH sound.

It doesn't say that the sounds are different in these words but it also doesn't say they are the same so it's a little bit confusing for me as I am not a native speaker. They also transcribe the short o as /ŏ/ but in the other topic when they talk about what sounds the letter a makes the third sound except long and short a is /ah/. That's how they transcribe it. So why don't they use the same symbol then? Maybe they will talk on specifically this sound in the next level more. If you Google these words, it gives totally different transcriptions though the same pronunciation so that was confusing. But you gave the answer to my question. It's the same sound as I thought. Thank you!
