man alive. the nhs is a riot - i love it, but i haven't heard a single woman say that they had a straightforward birth story lately. it's such a shame that women are forced to "wait" for staff when we can't really do anything about the pace of labour. i hope midwives are treated better asap so we can get more of them. they are beautiful souls. I'm glad it all went okay for you in the end. and congrats on having a huge placenta! i'd be proud of that fact lol x

I love birth stories! I'm glad all went well and that you kept an open mind. I know of two people out of everyone I know whose birth went exactly to plan. These things don't always! I ended up having an emergency c section which sounds scary but it was incredibly magical. I was awake, my husband was there, the lights were dipped low and we were just chatting to the staff during the procedure as if we had just gone for a cuppa. It was all very relaxed and I couldn't have wished for anything else. Then my baby was born and she was and is the most perfect being I have ever seen in my life. She's just about to turn 2 and she's just so sweet and kind! I feel very blessed!

It's very true that you are not able to have very much control over your birth, a very hard thing for most people. But once the baby is there the joy replaces any angst. It really does help to talk about your birth experience to help process all the feelings you go through. Best wishes to you, Dad & baby.

My baby is 14 weeks and have lived going through pregnancy and motherhood with you. We've had one hell of a ride with our feeding journey. No one warns you how hard breastfeeding can be. I would love if you could share your feeding story so I don't feel alone ( all the other mums I've met seem to be bottle feeding)❤
@jmb220219 сағат бұрын
It is hard. Second time around is easier. The thing is that I found though is that breastfeeding is not really supported. Especially in the hospital If you are not saying that you want it and stand on that they have you feeding formula in a moment. With breastfeeding you need to be determined and have good support and know how it works. It is so rewarding but also heavy. But also so easy you never can give to much always have it with you. When they are sick you can give extra. And its always perfect for your child. I just stopped after almost 2 years.
@clojo3682417 сағат бұрын
@ I go to a feeding group twice a week. I don't know where I'd be without them. I constantly think how much easier it would be to formula feed but feel too attached to breastfeeding to give it up. I think I'll be very sad the day she isn't feeding from me anymore 🥲

I am sorry the NHS is a bit of a mess, and I am sure the doctors and nurses and midwives feel sorry also. Good for Tiny to make his way here with yours and God's help. So glad you have a community you love and that loves you. Take your time in healing, remember to be kind to yourself, and if you can, sometimes reserve your energy. If Tiny is sleeping, put up your feet even if you feel you could run a half marathon.

I love that we were pregnant at the same times, my twin girls are 6 months now. I love listening to birth stories, this was amazing! But I'm with your mum and sis, gas and air was a MUST. I loved it all 3 times i gave birth and for me it helped numb that apkie of real pain you get at the end of a contraction. Then again, my sister hated that whoozy feeling. Do what works for you! CONGRATS AGAIN❤❤❤

Congratulations, Grace! I don't think anyone has like a wonderful birth story but we all take it in stride! With my second, I had a pre-labour emergency c-section, I was told there was something really wrong with him but they didn't know what, that he would go to the NICU and that they didn't know for how long, that the biggest thing they were hoping for was that he was going to come out alive. You can only imagine the stress! Especially that my first was also premature and was in NICU for 6 weeks. Turns out his umbilical cord was knotted and hadn't fed through the placenta for a month. He was very skinny but he was fine! Oh and my first was measuring small and turns out she was way bigger than they had predicted. The growth charts are complete lies!

The way I grinned when I saw this thumbnail - I feel like a very proud Aunty 💕 You did amazingly Grace! Re: birth stories, my first baby arrived 11 days late, took 94 hours between first contraction and him finally being out, and ended up being 9lb 12oz and super long (I’m only 5’ 2 on my tippy toes, so he was BIIIIIIIIIIG). He got himself a bit stuck as he tried to exit as he was presenting with the back of his neck, instead of the top of his head; so after all that time, he eventually came out his emergency c-section. It was a whole ordeal, but he is amazing and totally worth every second (he’s nearly 10 now, but I honestly don’t know where that time has gone 😮) Second baby took less than 6 hours from first contraction to having her in my arms. She caused all sorts of damage down there as she zoomed out (4th degree tears 😭), but again, totally worth every stitch 💕. She was pretty average in length, but still weighed 9lb 9oz 😳. Baby #3 was a planned c-section as I didn’t want any more trauma lol. She did attempt to come the day before, mind you; but she wound up being the smallest and dinkiest of all of my kids. Still 9lb 3.5oz, but very curled up and cute 💕. Long story short: apparently my body is good at growing big babies in my belly 🤪

I get kind and comforting vibes. ❤ I'm so happy for you (having followed your journey since university days). I'm excited for Baby Grackle to have what I imagine to be a lovely family. xx I was born via C-section. I was what I think they call an incomplete footling breech? So Head up, one foot down and doing the splits so my other leg was up with my head! Apparently, the first thing that I did when I was pulled out of the womb was a big poo down the surgeon's scrubs haha, although I obviosuly don't remember it! x

My mum, when pregnant with me (1990) went to a scan and was told I had downs. She spent the next month debating whether to abort. Then they did another scan and went "oops, sorry, we were wrong" 😂😂😂. Personally I loved the gas and air and particularly when I had to have stitches. I’d also thoroughly recommend a tens machine which worked brilliantly for my second delivery which accidentally happened at home. I’d hired one and started using it soon after the contractions started. I wasn’t really sure if it was making any difference until I accidentally unplugged the wires and noticed instantly. So happy for you that all was well in the end.

It is normal to have still shivers when you think back. Because it is a very impactful experience. With my first I had a very traumatic birth. I could not look qt pictures until he was one. The second one was much better but still when you rethink it it still is a lot. But as long as it gradually improves you will be fine. It is always so annoying that in the hospital they push you to do things you don’t want. Also I think if you would have been at home and would be relaxed and in the ‘zone’ you would have probably been more able to cope with the pain. And haha I screamed like crazy too. I didn’t let them check me because it was painful to be on my back. I think the most important thing is a supportive partner like what you said your husband was. And a good midwife that will stand up for you.

Your story reminds me of all the reasons I chose to do it at home this time! Yes hospital births can still be wonderful and beautiful, but there can also be so many yucky things about it too. I’m so grateful home birth with an amazing midwife is an option where I live.

I can’t believe I’m hearing your birth story. This feels so grown up. I had the option to labor in the water but I was so sweaty I knew the water would get me overheated too fast. Plus I really wanted to move around the room. Pretty much same exact birth as you. Baby was sideways so I had sooo much back pain. Went for the epidural but dilated to 10 before they could get me set up 😂. The epidural dulled the back pain though (for me it was like someone squeezing my spinal cord. Very fun) but kept the other pains, which felt fine compared to the back pain. They had to use the vacuum because baby’s head did the same thing as Tiny’s, just going in and out and apparently she was stuck on my tailbone 😂 Also had to stay an extra night at the hospital because I had my baby at 11 pm. My hospital bill would have been so much less if they just allowed me to leave the next day, but they have a 24 hour rule at my hospital. My oldest had a great time having multiple sleepovers with our friends who were watching her for two nights lollll Thanks for sharing your birth story!!
