In _Day of the Doctor_ they were a sort of cameo with Rose as the "box" but that was about it. Wonder if they'll ever make an appearance again....

It's also a _interesting dynamic_ to have a companion who's up with the Doctor in understanding technobabble - although you still need a third companion for exposition to the audience. The other times their were companions with that level were Romana and Turlough, both memorable.

I love the fact that the doctors eye roll was Eccleston. They had been practising this scene a lot, and Billie could not say the name. So they improved the breakdown, but she was so happy she could finally say it she gave him a hug. They just decided to keep it in.

RTD loved giving us hints about the future of the series, even if we don't understand it at the time. First it was Bad Wolf, then little things pointing to Rose leaving, third was Harry Saxon, then the missing planets. I miss hints like that

Reading this comment and watching this scene again, I noticed how Margaret walks behind Rose and sizes her up as if she's thinking "So this is 9's weak spot, how can I best exploit this?" She does this so well that she steps in front of Mickey so that he can't see her sizing Rose and 9 up. Such a subtle foreshadowing to the Slitheen hunter that truly resides within her.

you see, the ending is why the newer newho sucks. if this had been newer stuff the line about the death penalty would have been removed completely, or covered up in a joke or just made as a passing comment. but here it actually cuts short the fun times and the jokes, it has actual weight to it and you can see the characters reacting to it. god, just seeing the difference so blatantly like that and knowing how itd be in newer stuff is disheartening.

@@WyvernWolfe I sort of disagree. The US not only protects their people but makes the criminals suffer. After all: the term "to drop the soap" comes from somewhere. Maybe the US is a bit better than the Slitheren, but I doubt the US does so because they care about their criminals wellbeing so much and more because the bad publicity states get, which kill unwanted people with artillery chells.

@Space Colossus Yeah, I agree, literally look at any private-owned prison, and they get paid per criminal they house, and get paid more for longer terms. So there is a buisess motive behind longer setences and want people reoffending for the sake of money. Its scummy, but humans are. I think atm, the state the US is in, it would be focussed more on punishment over rehab, Im sure there are some prisoners and states that do it well though. As for the Slitheen, I think she was scared of death in truth, that could be all it is

it's because they were clearly planned to be part of a larger story arc but Christopher Eccleston was confirmed to be leaving after S1 quite early (but after the scripts had been written, clearly). This episode paints the Doctor/Rose/Jack/Mickey team as this 'Four Musketeers' thing where they act like they've been working together for ages despite how Jack and Mickey just met and they've only met Jack twice at this point. It was clearly meant to happen much later as a callback to the Slitheen episodes
