No-one will ever top the Ninth Doctor for me. Christopher Eccleston played it with such care and flawlessly displayed the doctor's struggles with the Time War and it gave Doctor Who some almost gritty moments. Forever my Doctor.

One of the most serious actors I've ever seen gave the performance of a lifetime in this show. He'd never done comedy before... And because of that he nailed a man who had been through so much yet tried to conceal and make light of it with jokes. Yet, in episodes like Dalek, you could also see he wasn't that far from completely losing it. In the stages of grief... The War Doctor was Depression, 9 anger, 10 bargaining, 11 denial and 12 acceptance.

Would've been cool to see him one more time for the day of the doctor special. He could've taken the place if the war doctor and had the three most recent iterations of the doctor acting off eachother. Would've been a perfect send off.
@Nargon46
@Nargon46 Жыл бұрын
@The Scarlet Slayer I agree, and that might have been the original plan. I know they asked him back, but he declined. When asked at a recent convention, he made it very clear that he personally dislikes multi-doctor episodes, since they usually end up being a lower quality then they would have been with a single doctor. He would definitely come back, but only if it were a Nine solo episode.
@TheScarletSlayer
@TheScarletSlayer Жыл бұрын
@@Nargon46 "lower quality episode" ....*quick montage of dozens and dozens of crappy single doctor episodes* my ninth doctor dude if you are going to say things at least make sure they're accurate.
@Nargon46
@Nargon46 Жыл бұрын
@The Scarlet Slayer hey, he is entitled to his opinion just as much as anyone else. And he obviously believes it because he's turned down good paying jobs over it. He liked the Day of the Doctor fine, but he thought the Ninth Doctor as a character would just not get along with the more upbeat 10 and 11, and he's right. Besides, he never said the single Doctor episodes were universally better, only that he feels the specials starring a single doctor are usually better than the ones with multiple doctors to write for. And his logic tracks to me.
@TheScarletSlayer
@TheScarletSlayer Жыл бұрын
@@Nargon46 okay but wouldn't the interactions between the doctors come down to a writing issue more than anything. The war doctor is even suppose to be the grouch that doesn't really get along with the other two doctors, how would nine not fit the same role.

9 was my first Doctor so I was quite sad when I realized he was going to regenerate. I don't think I even knew about regenerations yet so it was quite a surprise. By the time I started watching the show 11 was already near his end but I'll still remember 9 for being a fantastic (pun intended) intro for me.

At 0:44 as soon as he said they have dogs with no noses, I immediately responded out loud, "THEN HOW DO THEY SMELL?" *Changed a voice* "Terrible!" That is really good writing. He knew people would make that joke with that set up. And it absolutely was still funny

Random upload but I'll take it. Love this scene, it's more heartfelt than people realize. The early to mid-2000s was a golden age for British television. Doctor Who being the epitome of that. Russell T Davies got it so right when the show was brought back & made DR WHO more of a family show than it had ever been. Christopher Eccelston made the role his own and was a take on the doctor we had never quite seen before, and won't do again. Doctor Who lost its charm years ago and I am not just talking about the Whittaker/chibnal era. I'd go as far as to say that the charm of the show began to wear off in the Matt Smith era specifically series 6 (2011). Not because of Matt but because of how the show was being run & treated behind the scenes. It's not had that feel-good feeling for a long time. Hopefully, RTD can bring that back in Ncuti Gatwa's era.

Ahhh, man! The good old 2005 days. When I first watched this Doctor Who, after how the movie went down I really wasn't sure if this would be able to revive the series like they hoped. How surprised I was! Eccleston is a very good Doctor, and the transition to Tennant felt very natural. And of course I will always remember Rose blondie Tyler

Well, given The Parting of the Ways was inspired by The Flood (instead of the Doctor becoming a "vengeful god" and using the power of the Time Vortex again, it's Rose), had Eccleston stayed for another series, I imagine the Ninth Doctor would've channelled the Time Vortex through his body, rather than absorbing it; as the Eighth Doctor did in The Flood, which didn't cause him to regenerate. Though it's worth noting that the Eighth Doctor was originally meant to regenerate into the Ninth Doctor after using the power of the Time Vortex, but it was scrapped when the BBC and Davies decided that the Ninth Doctor couldn't be shown with a companion other than Rose; and since the Eighth Doctor was travelling with another companion at the time, they would've had to write her out or kill her off.

Times like these I pitied Chris Eccleston did not commit to 50th Anniversary before he hated Matt Lucas as Nardole the from minor character into a nonsensical companion (no more nice female companions), 13th Doctor's controversial episode 'Rosa' deemed too offensive and recently hates Disney+ that took Dr Who global rights away from ABC Australia after 60 years for good; he personally hates King Charles (replaced the late Queen that brought Dr Who to ABC in Australia until she died in 2022) eternally tarnished by Harry and Meghan inappropriate doctrinal agendas and Prince Andrew convicted for encouraging Epstein's molestation.
