In his era he was with the calibre of sachin mark Waugh and lara....real legend no 2 words......after the 1996 wc win aravinda was the main run getter in 80 % of the matches....in WC 1996 he he scored 448 enede as the 3rd highest in the tournament.......lovely memories....thnxs alot

Sachin is the greatest from the Asian continent. For his consistency and ability combined. 98 was arguably Sachins best year as a cricketer. The only thing is in this tournament Aravinda completely upstaged him. Which shows to me he always had slightly more ability than Sachin and was better to watch. It's a shame he never took the game more seriously. On his peak days I had him ahead of Sachin. He was more aggressive, better under pressure, better to watch and a better match winner. Better against fast Bowling and better against off spin. Equally good against leg spin - he demolished Kimble this game. A real pity he didn't so his talent justice

Go see his performances in South Africa, WI, Australia and England. Beyond any doubt sachin was miles ahead than Aravinda. Aravinda and Inzamam have nothing to show beyond asian flat tracks. Where was this Aravinda in 92 99 and 2003 WC. And even in this game Aravinda couldn't take his team home. Had this happned to Tendukar people would have said he played for records

Aravinda missed an opportunity on 4.00.. If he got it for 4 we could have got more closer.... The tournament was played to celebrate golden jubilee of independence... During that period (1996 to 1998), I didn't like those spectacular innings from Jayasuriya or de Silva, because they were scored against India, my country. I was about 13 or 14 years old then. But afterwards, I started liking great cricket from any cricketer around the world. De Silva was a magnificent batsman.

India had finally found a way to stop then World Champions Sri Lanka after 1996-1997 Lankan domination. Before the final, the two round robin games were won one each by India & Sri Lanka. In 1998, India dominated Sri Lanka in this Nidahas Trophy as well as in Sharjah triangular later that year.
