Maybe but they will be happier and better adjusted having parents that put their needs first. Instead of a family dynamic where there is fighting and unhappiness. I was lucky my parents divorced when my siblings and I were young and remarried when we were young. They put aside their differences and we were able to have blended holidays and birthdays. No one goes into a marriage or parenthood wanting to divorce. I’m sure Jon and Janni feel a lot of guilt but they are making it work for their children.

My dad was a hard worker like you. When we were kids, him and my mom built our family home. My dad put so many hours and manual labor into that home when he wasn't at work. He saw the little details like you. He bought bricks that were from an old road and made our patio, laid stones for a pathway out front, built a play set before they were something you could buy at a store. He put in a huge in ground pool with the help of my uncles and friends. It was a home where the extended family gathered for every holiday. My aunts and uncles would come over on weekends to play cards and all the cousins would just run around playing for hours and hours. In other words, he created a place that have memories I will cherish until I am gone. My dad passed away last year and I will always be grateful for the home, a true home, he gave us. You are that dad. I hope you realize that when your kids are grown and have their own kids and grandkids like me, these moments you are creating will be the best gift a parent can give. Trust me.

We will see how happy they are when at nine years old they have to decide who they are going to celebrate Christmas with, and whoever isn't chosen that person's Christmas will be ruined. Same with New Year's, Easter, Thanksgiving, Birthdays, and other important dates. Hope these kids learn to make big decisions young. And good luck with them not becoming self-absorbed narcissists or overburdened by guilt. Divorce and those who get divorced have an extremely high percentage in creating these personality types in their children.

That looks really nice. I have been toying with doing an addition with either an indoor pool or a swim spa like that. One of my colleagues has one but I have never used it myself. I am still leaning more towards a pool and hot tub though over the swim spa even though the swim spa is significantly cheaper.
