If any body wants to get rid off yarn . Please make some blankets for the Boggy Creek Camp. It is a camp for ill children with their families. There is a group of You Tubers who collect blankets, they call themselves as the Boggy Blanket Brigade for example Juam the yarn addict, Nina ´s Knots Crochets, She ´s got yarn 2, The Crafty Floridian…..

This is most likely my favorite video. I think so many of us can relate. As crafters and creative people we see potential in so many things. I gave away 8 full trash bags of fabric and 5 of yarn in our last move, it’s been a year now snd my heart still hurts a bit for the fabric mainly. I know truly though I will not have the time in many many years to use it all. Still somehow there was a a physical response to letting go of precious potential. 😊 I wish I could say it was rewarding and refreshing but truly it was just necessary.

I can relate. It's so hard to let go. I think if I had just donated these supplies to any charity it would have left me a little sad. But the organization I donated to is absolutely wonderful and they are doing great work so I think that's why it felt so good (after it was all done)! 😅

@@EliseRoseCrochet very true! Only about 2 bags of mine made it to a local charity. The rest of it ended up at Goodwill. Lady I was coordinating with and ended up having surgery and we had to move within the next day or two so I had to let go of it before I was able to get the rest to her.

I'm trying to change my ways and let go as well (not only yarn, but all my creative stuff, lol) It's so hard when you love it so much and your passion is being creative, but when it starts crowding your mind as well as your space, that's when I try to start simplifying. ❤❤❤I'm not a crocheter (I was, as a kid/teen) but I'm a quilter/sewist/fabric hoarder. (I watch your videos because they bring me joy!) This video spoke to me in so many ways. Two years ago, I did the exact same purge of fabric that I had fallen out of love with. Much of it was expensive Civil War reproduction fabrics that were as I may have said, EXPENSIVE. I also had tons of WIPs, mostly quilt tops and blocks I'd made to make more tops. I wound up donating much of it, especially the quilt tops, blocks and repro fabric to Quilts of Valor and even more of it to local animal shelters, who have volunteers who sew cage pads, crate covers and blankies for the animals (animals are my biggest passion, especially CATS!! HI, MR. PICKLES!!) I felt good about myself, similar to how you felt, I think. And I do swear that although a lot of it had been hidden in closets, etc, this house DEFINITELY feels lighter!!❤❤❤

In 2018 I had a health event that gave me a brain injury and therefore I could no longer work as an RN. Well thank god I horded my art supplies. In 2023 after learning how to crochet I decided to donate blankets and cuddle toys to the children’s hospital where my daughter works. I have a local professor here in town who donates all the yarn for it so everybody wins - The hospital - the kids - me and community member who Donates the yarn. You’re going to feel so good donating that yarn 😊

I absolutely adore it when I see people recognizing when they have problems. Not just because we get some really juicy declutter content, but also because it's an opportunity for personal growth and maturity. It takes a lot of responsibility to acknowledge when something that you love has turned into a problem. It takes even greater maturity to do all you can to fix said problem. Kudos to you for not just brushing it under the metaphorical rug or finding more storage solutions for all your yarn as a lot tend to do. Keep up the growth, keep up the development, and you will go extremely far as a crafter and content creator.

He moved a heavy item out of the way so I could access “The closet of good intentions” which houses nearly a full boutique of gifts people gave me which are brand new, never used, as well as excessive holiday gift bags, and craft supplies. Hopefully I can sit and sort through the closet hoard to make space for some new things to occupy that closet. Thanks for the inspiration of sharing your video.

I did the same thing at the beginning of this year, & gave all my excess yarn to the mother of a friend, who knits & crochets to raise funds for a local charity. The sheer sense of relief I found, in organising what I truly use for my crochet work, was wonderful &, almost 3/4 of a year later, I still have a few of the drawers that I use to store my yarn, empty! Lol I've not done much crocheting over the Summer Months but, with Winter nights drawing ever closer, I'm really looking forward to creating more Amigurumi over the next few months! Knitting groups not only provide items for those in need, but they provide community and support for people who might otherwise be socially isolated. As someone on disability, i am very much dependent on donated yarn, some of which I buy from op shops (thrift stores) and some I get from "buy nothing" groups. What you are doing helps people more than you realise.

Hi Elise! My husband and I recently downsized our home and I felt your struggle. I, too, ended up donating so much yarn and so many supplies to a local nursing home. It felt good to purge, but better to share with people I know will enjoy my spoils of over shopping. 😂 You did a great job!🤗🧶

@@EliseRoseCrochet I have signed up for my first small scale craft sale at my son's elementary school this coming December. Hats, stuffed animals, Christmas decorations, and earrings (made with n8 perle cotton thread). Thankfully he's in school for a full day now and I have the time to crochet A LOT. Fingers crossed the event is a hit.

"What if you need it later?" - the same voice that I have in my head, you definitely aren't alone! Especially if it's something someone gifted me, I have a hard time parting with thoughtful gifts. Thanks for sharing this video, I have a three tiered cart that holds a lot of my craft and art supplies and it's, well, it needs a good re-do on the organization. Maybe I'll wheel it out and re-watch this video while going through it!

If anyone else has an excess of yarn and yarn supplies and no idea where to donate, a good place to call could be your local nursing home. The lovely people at the home I work at love getting donations, their faces light up like it's Christmas morning.

Last year I donated a giant garbage bag full of yarn to local veterans and it felt good. Recently started cleaning out my office and it’s not easy. I’ve also itemized and inventoried every skein of yarn I have and put it into notion. It was long and tedious but great that now I have a digital searchable database of all of my yarn.

What i do when I'm feeling overwhelmed by my stash spreading is pick one basket/bin/bag/pile/drawer (it's spread out😂) and that's my active yarn. The rest is on hold until I use at least half of my active yarn. It encourages me to work through what I have and forces me to get creative when I'm working with a small (section of my) stash rather than the whole thing. Also, I only do this like once a month so I don't get too frustrated by the limitations and just quit.
