Back around 1955, when I was at school, I loved our class book, which was a biography of James Naysmith, who was a Scottish engineer, philosopher, artist and inventor famous for his development of the steam hammer. Even in those early days of steam, his machine was so controllable that he could pound red-hot metal forgings, or crack an egg in a wineglass without damaging the glass.

Unvorstellbar! Die Maschinen mussten doch auch erst produziert und aufgebaut weden. Das ist eine Meisterleistung! Und wie die wissen, was zu tun ist. Alles in menschlichen Gehirnen entstanden und dann in Technik umgesetzt. Hervorragend! 😊👍

I worked in a metal factory right out of high school. Left because a guy right before I came had lost a thumb, and then my friend almost got killed by human error. A guy didn't secure a pallet of metal sheets and it fell from a ceiling crane right next to him. Shook the building. He would've died. I was like, nope. I'm not gonna die at twenty for a hard labor minimum wage job filled with ex cons. Went and worked for Sonic Drive-in instead xD

Some years ago the fork lift company I worked for sold a 20 ton lift truck to a company who were in this industry. I was in charge of all new trucks before delivery to the customer the machine had to be built with special protection to the tyres and had a special double glazed windscreen. The machine was prepared in our workshop and delivered to the customer. A week after delivery I was asked to go to site find out why the forks had failed at the heel. This is a big deal in the lift truck industry and should never happen even if the truck is overloaded. I went to site and was taken into a building with a box inside very similar to the one at 8.00. They lifted the canopy and revealed a block of white hot metal we were stood 20 yards away and the heat was unbelievable, the fork truck approached the furnace and lifted the block out. I couldn't believe it no wonder the forks had failed the heat transfer into the forks then the forks cooling down then being reheated was taking all the temper from the forks. I don't know what happened after I reported my findings.

I hear ya. But, the materials of the future is where we should be steering our young. There's Self-Healing Concrete, 3D Graphene, Aerographite, Laminated Timber, Modular Bamboo, Transparent Aluminum, Translucent Wood, Light-Generating Concrete, Microbial Cellulose, Aluminum Foam, Nanocrystal, Wool Brick, Hydroceramics, Biochar, and Invisible Solar Cells. And these are just a small list of building materials for the future in the works, or are already being utilized. I think in the next 50-100 years, there will be fewer and fewer reasons to use Steel. But it will never go away completely. We'll just see less of it. That's progress my friend.

Each one varies but most times you see forging this size it's for extremely large earth moving machinery or parts for presses the reason that the parts are so heavy and bulky is do to the amount of machining it's going to get or not get because this type of work can and will cause cracks to form in the finish product and with a crack you'll have failure so they either make it way to big to handle the stress or to big to make sure it's got enough stock to be removed to get rid of any cracks formed

BOAH NATION they manage to do the job well enough in England Europe and the USA it’s pure lack of care from the company that has them not being protected in a forge you have bits of slag that are black not glowing at all but still be 1000 degrees plus you if they are casting you hav liquid steel at 1400C 2750F for Americans splashing around like water in the Chinese factory the workers there had straw hats tee shirts and jeans with sandles , I had did see accidents including one poor guy who was killed PPE can be a pain but it saves lives.

@@tophatv2902 I live in China. I've been to so many ultrasonic and stamping factories where the workers don't wear ear protection. No source, maybe go on Alibaba and watch videos of them making laptop chargers or anything that is ultrasonically welded. It's insane, I got a headache after 30 seconds and they do it all day. When their flu dies down, buy a ticket to China and see how crazy it is there. I've seen people soldering electronics in closed rooms with the AC on thinking that will help. It's crazy, absolutely crazy how hazardous and unhealthy their work conditions are.
