Tell your mom we can’t even see her dust! Great job decluttering. I need to get to decluttering before I go back to work. One thing I noticed in this video that I’ve been told but never seen in action. They say if you get gifts you don’t want you hold on to them because you feel guilty getting rid of a gift. All that stuff you kept saying “I gave you that?!?!” You didn’t remember but she did! Just let it go people! ❤️❤️ Edit: After I left the comment, you and your mom talked about it! 😂
@danniraearranged2 жыл бұрын
🤣 She was so so concerned about the dust, lol. I told her, "this isnt a clean with me, they wont see it, unless I do a close up" and then she made it a point to tell me like 8 times "your not doing any close ups right" 🤣🤣 And I agree with you 1000% I honestly couldnt remember any of that stuff I gave her, that is such a great point Kellie, wow, I didnt even think of that. Your right, "just let it go" HA! I would like to have more conversations like that, i think that type of stuff is important to discuss, esp. gift giving, thats a tough one! Always so HAPPY to see you here with me dear, thank you for watching 🥰
@Alaina14mw2 жыл бұрын
For decluttering gifts, I told everyone in my family (grandparents and aunts/uncles I talk to) I was decluttering and told them the supposed benefits and made that a whole conversation point first. Why I wanted to, what I was learning, how excited I was to start etc. Then when I got to a gift they gave me that I didn't want, depending on the relationship I either called them and basically said "Hey! I came across this gift you gave me, it's beautiful/funny/cool but I realized it's not being appreciated in my house and was wondering if you wanted it or would be offended if I gave it to someone else?". Or simply got rid of it with the understanding that it was a gift and I could always say "Oh I gave it to a friend who loved it since I wasn't using it and they seemed to appreciate the item more than me and I felt that it honoured the gift better to have someone love it more than I could give it" even if it wasn't true. And then I made sure to let people know I didn't want items as gifts any more unless it was specifically on a gift I wanted but I love consumables (soap bath bombs, jellies/jams, homemade snacks). For family heirloom type things, I asked around first making sure it was known I DID NOT WANT the item and it was a take it or I was going scenario. If someone got offended I reminded them that I loved that they thought of me, but me removing an item from my home did not mean I didn't appreciate them. I was thankful but I didn't want to hold onto something for fear they would be offended. Admittedly I have a few members get offended and then I just got rid of the item anyway because my life and home is about me and my sanity, and if they are so childish to get offended they could just not come over. Boundaries sometimes need to be laid and that's ok too, but I won't take their shenanigans personally.
@danniraearranged2 жыл бұрын
I agree with this entire comment 100%! I really love how you said, that you explain to the people who have given you gifts or an item, that you think it's beautiful, cool, it's a wonderful gift but it's just not being appreciated here, I really love how you put that. I also love the idea of explaining to them that you know someone else who would really love and appreciate that item. That would make me happy if I were to give something to someone and they didn't want it but they knew someone else who would really love it, I would want that person who would really love and appreciate it to have it and to get use out of it vs it sitting somewhere collecting dust. I also like consumable items too, like soaps, toothpaste toothbrushes stuff like that essential items, perishable items too. It is sometimes really difficult to talk about these things with loved ones, and I just think the way you've gone about handling those situations is just a really perfect way to go about it. I wish that I was more honest at times, because I've noticed that when I'm not, I end up with a lot of stuff that I really don't want. And sometimes I just go ahead and donate those items. Most likely they're not going to ask me about the items that they've given me. Like for example I completely forgot that I gave any of that stuff to my mom, which by the way I have no idea why I gave her all that stuff 😂 but I never once asked her about it, I completely forgot about those gifts. But I suppose you do run that risk of possibly offending someone, but as you perfectly stated, reminding them that you appreciated that item and that you love that they thought of you, is a great way to handle the situation. I personally wouldn't get offended if someone got rid of something I gave them because I don't want anything to be a burden to anyone. But I know not everyone feels the same. Thank you so much for sharing this with me, this was such a great comment, really appreciate it and thank you so much for watching, so happy you're here with us 🥰 xo

Also totally agree! I have some folk who got upset when I said I didn't want physical gifts, because that's how they show love. I just kept saying that I really appreciate it when they get me things but the greatest gift they can give me is honoring my goal and values. And that if they see something that makes them think of me, I would just as much appreciate a call or text!
@molee8863 Жыл бұрын
If most are like me, I don't recall all the gifts I've given. Also I wouldn't be offended if you gave away a gift that no longer served you. In fact it has been a long standing practice in my family to not give gifts between adults. Only the kids received gifts. I'm more about the food, the company & experiences rather than the stuff. It makes the holidays & birthdays more pleasurable.

The best advice I've ever heard regarding gifts that you don't want: The act of giving the gift is done. It's yours now. The whole point is the gifting, not the guilt associated with the thing. Also, in the future when people ask what you would like for Christmas, birthday, etc, if they insist on giving you or your children something, tell them that you would much rather have an experience gift! Go out to eat together, trip to the zoo or the movies, pass to the local water park, etc. ☺️

I LOVE this comment so much!!! I couldn't agree with you more! I feel the same way, once you give someone something, it's there's to do what they want with that item/gift, no strings attached. I believe the value of a gift is in the giving. Once it's out of your hands, it's none of your busines what happens to it! If you are in receipt of an unwanted gift, appreciate the thought that accompanied the giving of it to you, then pass it on. Someone else will value it.

I agree 1000%! I used to feel guilty too, and sometimes I still do, sometimes I wish I was more vocal about the things that I accept, but I've done that many times before where if someone that I know doesn't want something but they think I'll like it, it makes them happy to get rid of it and then I just go ahead and donate it. I've done that before too. And honestly when people give me something or even gift me something, they usually never ask about it. I'm glad that my parents are really loving the results of decluttering, because eventually this stuff does go somewhere. I'm sure that was a lot of time and energy for you, not to mention there's a lot of emotions involved too when you inherit all that stuff. "Save yourself, love the moms" 💯! Loved this video, with all the noise. Loved the meat grinder. My mother would grind up roast beef to make a sandwich spread. The large yellow mixing bowel was used for cookies. Thank-you for all the memories. I’m 72 and love thinking of my mother. Again thank-you!

My mom has that grinder and still uses it for chicken salad. I would love to have it someday. They work great.

My mother is a very organized hoarder. I’m a minimalist. She always tells me I’d love to put a dumpster in her yard and start pitching. She’s so right! Lol
@michelesusanne12 жыл бұрын
Introduce her to the Swedish Death Cleaning method- organizing and decluttering her home to reduce the burden of sifting through all her objects and trying to decide what's significant, truly important and noteworthy. With Swedish Death Cleaning, she will have already done that for her loved ones by only holding onto items determined to be essential and important. Who wants to leave a burden for someone else?
@danniraearranged2 жыл бұрын
I can relate lol, my mom has so much packed away but most of it is tightly packed away, I always tell her it's organized clutter lol. There are times when she feels that way too, where she'd like to just dump it all but that's easier said then done. It's definitely a marathon, but the results are so worth it! Thank you so much for watching and being here, we're so happy you're here with us 🥰 xo

It’s was nice to see your mom. She is beautiful and has a wonderful personality. Tho I too would be camera shy. she is wonderful to get to know through your videos.

Awww Amanda, you are so sweet, this seriously made my mom's month. What a super sweet comment/compliment. Thank you 🥰 yes she's very camera shy, shes slowly starting to get more comfortable with the camera, but I most certainly don't push her, I do whatever she's comfortable with. Thank you so much for watching and being here with us we appreciate you so much 🥰😘

Oh my gosh you drink coffee before bed too, I do that from time to time. I LOVE my coffee! I swear my blood type is coffee 🤣 I actually really wanted to get this video out sooner, however it took a hot minute to upload to YT, which happens more frequently than I would like it to, but Im so glad you were able to watch tonight! Hope you liked it! Thanks for watching and being here with us 🥰

I thank them and then donate it and if they ever come over or even ask about it (they never do) i usually just say it broke or the kid lost it. If theyre a parent or immediate family and were alone i usually let them know i appreciate the thought but im not looking for more stuff and i wouldnt feel right accepting something i cant use. So they should keep it or gift it to another person and if they really want to show us love to please join us for family dinner etc or gift us food. 😊
@danniraearranged2 жыл бұрын
That is BRILLIANT, I love the idea of letting loved ones know that instead of gift, maybe joining us for family dinner, I love that! And same, no one ever asks me about the gifts they've given to me or my family, but I think the way you've gone about handling unwanted items from immediate family or parent is the best way to go about it! I sometimes wish I was more vocal on things that are gifted. Something im still working on, LOL xo

You seriously just made my mom's year! You are so dang sweet! Thank you 🥰 Im hoping one day she'll feel a little bit more comfortable to be on camera more, maybe one day, she's very camera shy, so is my husband lol. My mom has so much Crystal, I think that's one item she'd never part with, like you stated so perfectly "baby steps' lol thank you so much for watching and being here, we're so happy you're here with us 🥰 xo

I found a simple solution for the gift problem that works fine for me. I told my family and friends clearly that I am living a minimalist life and that I am not willing to keep stuff that I don't need. I told them that if they gift me things i did not ask for and I don't need, I am going to donate them immediately. So they all know exactly what to expect.
