We need more inexpensive boat racing here in the USA. Powerboat racing is a dying sport here, because beginners and hobbyists can't afford to compete. Back in the 70s and 80s, the sport's heyday, my Dad raced a J class several weekends per year, and was very competitive, even winning several races, and we used it as a family ski boat the rest of the year.

chris van they do try to clear it as much as possible. they only leave a few logs behind and those ones are ones that are clearly visible and left to be obstacles. its not like they host this event without searching for underlying logs and what not. point is the circuit is checked through first and made sure its possible. aslong as you're not a fool you wont hit any logs.

Those 30 HP 3 cylinder Yamaha outboards are "stupid fast" when you put a tuner in them, change out the carbs for Mikuni's, toss on a low water lower unit and add a raker prop!!! I had one back in the late 80's on a 12 foot Cajun Special boat and would outrun guys with up to 80 hp outboards all day long!!!

These are flat bottom boats right? How do you keep them from porpoising? With electric trim, adjustable trim tabs, or is the boat manufactured with a hook on the pad? I've been doing this kind of thing for 25 years through the marsh lands here in Amityville, New York. My Carolina Skiff lays down nice sliding threw the turns with precision but sitting two guys in the back makes it porpoise down the straights.
@Thetimbercruiser8 жыл бұрын
+Ant Man I know they use manual hydraulic trim. I assume the beat some sort of hook into the hull to keep it from porpoising and to make it float the nose the way it does on pad.

does the guy in the front just add weight to the front of the boat?
@flavourboss49978 жыл бұрын
Yeah i'm assuming they try and keep the majority of the turning surface in contact with the water and to stop it rolling on turns. But at the same time balancing that with speed by bringing weight back a little on straights so that less of the boat drags in the water enabling higher speeds. I used to race thundercats and it's similar but these guys have tree branches and shit to worry about.
