No kidding. All the debate about the medical . . . He passed! And considering the possibility of the unthinkable . . . a pilot has died of heart failure overflying the US. If memory serves, it was safer to not remove them from the seat at the risk of, say, bumping the yoke and causing an even bigger problem for the already harried first officer. Though they are operating fairly far North, Churchill never looks to be all that far out of the way. The flight wouldn’t be allowed otherwise.
@NICU_Guy2 жыл бұрын
He can be the best person in the world, but his belly has to potential to cause an accident. The control yoke is connected on both sides. The first officer was unable to pull yoke any farther back due to the captain's belly. It is not disrespectful, it is safety issue.

He is actually having to suck in the gut so that the co-pilot will have the full range of the control yoke. If he had to pull the yoke all the way back for some reason, it would hit his stomach before getting to the actual controls limit restricting the flying surfaces which could be bad in an emergency situation. 737's may be different, but in flying GA aircraft when landing you want to always hold the yoke as far back as you can upon touchdown which helps slow the aircraft as well as making the nose gear touchdown softly.

Vincent Conti It can be considered insulting but remember this is an early 737 with a negligible autopilot, and in the middle of northern Canada. The seemingly unreasonable objection based on a pilot’s health can make the difference between a plane flying and hitting the ground. Even is the copilot takes over that pilot will be guaranteed to be dead if hypothetical heart attack leaves him in critical condition. Over 2 and a half hours to get to the nearest airport could be considered normal in that territory.

I like how the takeoff was filmed because you really get a idea of how fast that plane is going before it is air born. The sound of those engines too is just priceless, you dont get to hear that sound as much anymore, sometimes an MD80 or if your lucky a 727 Cargo. My Dad flies on these planes once every 2 weeks, he works for another Agnico Eagle mine near Meadowbank, in the same region of Nunavut. Great video! BTW another operation you should try to do a doc on is Air Creebec. They operate in Hudson Bay as well, and are an Indigenous-owned airline owned by the Cree of Northern Quebec, but also operate to the Ontario side of Cree country, to many reserves that are fly-in only. They operate some of the oldest Dash-8s in the world, originally built for launch customer Ontario Northland in the 70s, as well as Hawker-Siddeley HS-748 combi planes, which we in the region call "the Skid", and I believe are the last HS-748s operating in the world.

When I saw 737-200 Combi I said "finally Sam gets to sit on a proper economy seat" he ends up getting the 2nd officer seat in the cockpit. Sign I'll never win. 😊

There is no "second officer seat." The 737 has never had a flight engineer. He's on the jump seat.

@@prorobo why is there a jump seat in the cockpit?
@prorobo4 жыл бұрын
eWorkx it's there primarily for observation of the crew and can be occupied by a company check airman during a line check, an FAA inspector, or another airline pilot trying to hitch a ride when the cabin is full. Before 9/11, at the captain's discretion, anyone could occupy the seat like a child visiting the cockpit in flight. Those days are long gone.

Not easy. The load master has to balance the plane by putting extra weight under the co-pilot's seat. Great video.

@Red Balloon But it's the truth. Pascal needs to move to Houston to be on 600 pound life with Dr. Now.
