🎁My sister always hosts the holiday family dinners. Her choice. One year, she was unable to do all the things. She had to use paper plates instead of the China. She was apologizing. The whole family let her know it wasn't the dishes that mattered. She enjoyed doing that, but the family was expanding. It was a lot. But we gave her permission to adjust simply by letting her know we didn't need all of that. She resisted at first because she had her idea of what she wanted to do, but by the next year she had put in place an easier system. She uses nice paper plates and plasticware. She has an area designated for the items. She has her kids and their families over every week now. She can enjoy the gatherings. No dishes to wash or China to worry about. Just family to share laughter and a meal with. It's much less formal and much more relaxed. She can still bring out a China serving dish if she wants to, but I hope she knows now that she is our treasure, not her China.

@Melinda Plain and Simple: Aww, that is so true! Such a nice comment about your sister! I used to have family gatherings a few years ago. I would use decorative paper plates and plastic utensils it was just less dishes and simpler to have to clean up🤷 It really wasn't a concern anymore cuz it was just about spending time with the family☺️

This is a nice comment. After reading the other comments I'd like to add my two cents. I think it's fine to use a little of both. I'm certain that a few members of my family do not care about the dishes. I also think it is so nice when members of the family offer or just help with the dishes!

Since I moved into my new house, I decluttered tremendously. I’m definitely into minimalism. I decided to only decorate for fall and Christmas. I’ve got one bin for fall and two for Christmas. And now that my home is practically done being decorated, I plan to not add to my collection for awhile. Honestly, I just feel less stressed and have more time with family.

You have really🎁 encouraged me to go ahead and donate my old tablecloths and look for one new one that will take me through all the holidays. Also my chargers. No need really. And some dishes I bought from a hotel liquidator. I am no longer the host since I downsized from my last home. I don't put up a tree at all. I used to have a quirky tree that got stolen, so 🤪 nothing these days. Now I spend my holidays doing spa time, traveling, baking and doing crafts for fun.

Your videos are always so inspiring and make me so exciting about home making instead of stressed! I would love it if you and your mom talked about post hosting cleanup. I don’t want to miss time with my guests doing dishes, and when everyone leaves I’m tired, and then before I know it it’s a week later and there’s still a dirty tablecloth out driving me nuts. If there are things you do before guests even arrive that makes cleaning up easier that would be even better! Thank you for all you do!!

I love your new home and watching you and your family, but youtube doesn't seem to be notifying us like it used to. I am a crafter so I would love to declutter my craft room that I share with my hubby and his train set I noticed he has ordered a big castle for his train set so I think a big craft destash is in order. This will be my first year hosting Thanksgiving! Lived here for 4 years but we've got 2 young kiddos 3 and under, so our moms or grandma's have always hosted before. My husband and I have had both our grandfathers on our mothers' sides pass away. So we wanted both grandma's to feel loved with us, hosting as much of our family as we can. I have next to no serve wear and know I'll be dollar tree shopping soon. Luckily I've asked each household that's coming to bring a dish they love to make. I have yet to know if we're going to do turkey in the smoker or the oven. And we might just do paper plates and plastic silverware, I can barely remember a holiday where that wasn't the norm. But I'm feeling more secure about the whole event watching how calmly you are going through your preparations.

We actually have a beautiful set of dishes from Crate and Barrel that’s white with a very subtle design. We use everyday as our main dishes and I’ve been slowly buying back ups of each of the dishes that store in the garage for when we host. It saves us space because we don’t have a whole different set of dishes, but also when one of our main dishes breaks (which hasn’t happened yet 🤞🏻) we can replace it!

🎁 I used to host more of the holidays now I'm not quite so sure. Couple of my children are married and so my daughter-in-law's like to host. I always wanted the place where everybody came to Grandma's house but I'm realizing when my daughter-in-law's host they can invite family from both sides. There are relatives that are remarried and so they can incorporate them all. I downsized my Christmas things from six large totes inside and then I had about eight out in my garage. I am down to two small ones in the house and one for my tree and then I think one for lights and that's it! I was amazed how much I was able to let go. I have some items of my grandmother's that I would like to be able to incorporate. I had a bunch of red dishes that I loved I could use for pretty much any entertaining and my hands get weak at times and I actually drop them and they broke. So we'll see if I can function without them or look for something new. It is so fun to watch somebody else to clutter and organize It's Tricky for me to do it on my own I'm the only one here that does it. I am realizing I do better when I'm watching or listening somebody else I feel like I have company sitting there with me. I so appreciate your channel and your encouragement and your beautiful home I'm so glad God blessed you with it
