I am very impressed. You've given me quite a bit to think about and challenge myself and my mare with.

Wow Sandy, Star looks great! She really pays attention to exactly what you are asking her. She must really enjoy this as much as you do. I remember when you first began the beginning stages of bridless riding. This takes a lot of time and patience. You have a lot to offer people who want to learn from you and your horses. It was great bumping into you. I hope we can get together sometime this summer. Talk to you soon!

Do you ever do anything trotting or cantering?

Running through obstacles engages a horse's flight or fight brain. I am asking for the horse's thinking brain. I do obstacle training to teach a horse not to spook and run when they come across something they fear. I am asking the horse to stop his feet and look where he is walking and think. I give extra credit to a calm horse. This is safety training.

You are sorely mistaken. Actually it is not safety training. You can do plenty of obstacles at a gait faster than a walk or a trot and still have the horse be relaxed and confident. Running can be done confidently. Horses can be afraid and walking. I agree that your horse looks confident, but if you think confidence only comes at a walk you are very wrong indeed. There are some very terrified horses in the world who stop their feet and stop their brains at the same time.

This video was as much about control of the horse, shoulders, ribs, hips, & feet, as is was about obstacles. When I first got on the horse, the first thing I asked the horse to do was to cross her front foot over and reverse direction. I was direct

I was controlling her feet. My 6 year old granddaughter rides this horse.
