I want to tell you THANK YOU for helping my students. I teach at a Community College (one of my classes was high school students taking college classes). When we returned from Thanksgiving break, I was notified that one of my students in that class was killed in a car accident (16 years old). When we returned to class, I had to inform everyone of the loss. From that day on, there was one empty seat (which was a daily reminder of our loss). My students had not experienced loss before (they are all 16) and sat there in utter shock. My heart broke for the loss of my student and for the 35 students sitting there not knowing what to think or what to do. I played Hurricane for them; we played it 3 times before we left that day. The song gave them solace and continues to give them solace as they continue to deal with the loss of a classmate and friend. I will be forever grateful to you Nuno, Gary, Pat, and Kevin for the comfort you gave my students through your music. I only wish I could thank you in person when I see you play in Austin in a couple of weeks. Thank you so very much for helping my students! (I have no clue if you will see this, but it was important for me to write this in the hope that you all know how much your music means to your fans and 35 high school students in my class.)

To say that my grief was and still is a big part of my life is an understatement. I also am a musician and songs like this help me to release the pain. Hurricane makes me think of loved ones who are gone and makes me measure detachment. We're still pretty small when practicing this. We didn't lose anyone... because nothing is ours. We are all conscience and it never perishes. It only changes dimension, but this remoteness that our eyes can't see, hurts us too much. This song has an exceptional beauty. It is said that in other, more evolved dimensions there is a much more beautiful sound than on earth. Hurricane should come from there.

@@bighairprayer92 they’ve each lost at least one parent. Gary and Nuno have lost both and they were very close to their moms. Nuno said he likes to envision his mom as a little girl. Pat wants to see his mom as young and healthy instead of being ravaged by cancer. I think even Kevin’s dad (who he was close to) passed before Josephine Cherone did. It’s just what I think, but because Gary was close to his mom, and she was very supportive of him, letting her go is still very painful for him.

This song put me to tears the first time I heard it, walking through the neighbourhood the morning of the release of "Six." I put my earbuds in and just went walking. I remember exactly where I was when I first heard the line, "Is this the storm before the calm?" And the tears came. It just hit me with where I was at that moment (and, to some extent, still am). I wondered what people might think if they had been looking out their front windows to see some 49-year-old guy walking along and crying. No other band has ever comes close to doing that to me the way Extreme has over the years (I doubt I'll ever get through "Everything Under the Sun" without getting emotional). After all these decades, the band is simply part of my DNA anymore. I feel so incredibly grateful that they're still active and creating masterpieces like this ... and to see the appreciation and connection from so many other wonderful people like you. . Sending my heartfelt best wishes to anyone who see this. Much love. And long live Extreme.

Actually Hole Hearted is a song about Christ. Read the lyrics. Gary is a very devoted Christian. Granted you can interpret songs in many different ways but reading the lyrics this is all about trying to find happiness with material goods and ambitions but missing the one thing that can fill you. Church services teach that stuff all the time. I think I read that Gary said it was the meaning also but I would have to try and go find that.

@@likeadollseyesstatuereview3808 I agree with you on Hole Hearted and I'm not sure how Extreme meant More Than Words, but I'm firmly convinced that is what God wants from us, a relationship of active partnership that goes beyond mere words to an actual blending of hearts. I love that the passionate heart of God pursues us where we're at, exactly as we are....at a rock concert, in a cubicle, in a mansion, on a mountain top. Anywhere. Everywhere. Because we are loved. Hurricane is also in those lines. As He says, He IS the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, not past tense. ❤

@@likeadollseyesstatuereview3808, the lyrics of this song were not written by Gary, Nuno wrote this song. He wrote this song as a kind of rememberence of a friend of his that perished in a motorvehicle accident. This is factual information as I was told this by Nuno himself on 1/27/24 in Atlantic City N.J. while bullshi**ing over breakfast as they were in town for their concert with Living Colour. I will as there to catch up with Corey Glover, the singer of Living Colour. A couple friends of mine have played with him on many projects. I played some guitar, piano on some side projects with him almost 20 years ago, but I was predominatley recording and mixing the tracks in an "underground" studio in a shuburb of Manhattan.

@@potatolew4495 I gotta believe Gary had influence on the lyrics. Obviously if Nuno said that to you that’s how he remembers it. It’s some awful lyrics if that’s what it’s about lol. The Hole Hearted title might be what he had in mind many years ago but the verse lyrics read like pure Gary 1. The verses do not match up with Nuno’s story. I mean the following lyrics plus tempo of song and how its song is more hopeful then missing a dead classmate. Life's ambition occupy my time Priorities confuse the mind Happiness one step behind This inner peace I've yet to find If I'm not blind why can't I see That a circle can't fit where a square should be This heart of stone is where I hide These feet of clay kep warm inside Day by day less satisfied Not fade away before I die None of Nunos solo work is that creative lyric wise. 2. It’s the final song to the funked up fairytale. Makes no sense why it would be about that Plus it would seem to be messed up to preform it live with such fun when it’s about a dead classmate. I could be wrong but it ends the album a hopeful note along with song for love. So cool you got to hang with Nuno like that.

@@potatolew4495 Plus there was this Extreme lead singer Gary Cherone came up with an interesting heartbreak metaphor on this track: He has a hole in his heart, and there's only one who can fill it. The song though, is not about a girl, but about God. Cherone is a devout Christian, but when writing rock lyrics he didn't make that obvious. When speaking with Christian publications, he made his beliefs clear, and even quipped that he plagiarized some lyrics for "Hole Hearted" from the Bible. And Nuno said this in an interview Guitarist Nuno Bettencourt wrote the music for this track right after his new guitar arrived: his first-ever 12-string. In a Songfacts interview with Bettencourt, he told the strange story of how it happened. "I wrote it on the toilet!," he said. "I got kind of excited that I had my first 12-string, and it made me want to go to the toilet. I sat down, took my time, and dare I say, the ideas just came out. They came pouring out."

This song really hit home for me, especially since I lost my dad at the end of July this year. I played this song often over the last few months. I saw Extreme in Portland at the end of August and was very glad you played this live. Nearly cried watching the video. Thanks for making a beautiful heartfelt song. I know my dad is with the Lord and not in any pain, but it doesn't make it hurt any less. The song has been a huge blessing for me.

I was in that room with you and I felt it too. Lost my mom last year and it still hurts. That concert rocked our faces off, but it was those quieter moments that really made the show memorable. Thanks Extreme for such a great night.

My condolences and you are not at all alone in this grief. Sounds cliché but we have to cherish the time we had with love ones lost. You are fortunate to have those times and whenever I hear of someone's loss, I wish I had been able to meet that person. I also keep faith that we will see them again. My mom passed from cancer at age 41 when I was 14. I'm 55 now. Almost tough to have clear memories for me but will occasionally have a dream that is so real. I guess a lot is in the subconscious. I was at that Portland show too.

This is a gut wrenching song to anyone who has experienced loss. If you haven't or can't relate, consider yourself extremely lucky. We take for granted that the ones we love will always be around, but as we grow older we lose more and more. It was hard enough to listen to this song for me, but seeing the pain in Gary's eyes made me lose it. An amazingly beautiful song, emotional to watch. Love that Extreme is still grinding away making music that still affects me.

I'm wiping tears away as I type...did not expect this when I saw the song title was "Hurricane". Just lost my dad a year ago. He was my best friend. This was a gut-punch. And a reminder that life is short, let those you love know it. In a weird way...thank you for this song. It hurts, but it is cathartic...knowing others feel the same pain that I do..

I cannot give this song enough likes! Extreme writes the best ballads bc they truly come from the heart! This song should be their next "More Than Words!" Like their new album hasn't already spawned a number of hits! I love this band and Nuno has moved way up on my favorite guitarists list bc he is such a damn good songwriter too!!!

My dad passed 10 months ago, and on some days, the pain & grief are still so overwhelming. Not ashamed to admit that this brilliant song opened up my waterworks all over again. And probably will many more times over.

It was like Nuno and Gary read my mind on this song, especially the title, because I lost my dad less than a month after Hurricane Harvey devastated his townhome in Ingleside, Texas on August 25, 2017, just 15 minutes south where they eye of the Hurricane made Landfall in Rockport, TX . My dad passed away on September 22nd from post-traumatic stress from the turtles pace that FEMA and his other insurance companies taking their time to give him the immediate help he needed. Just 5 days before he passed away when I last saw him he complained about the stresses that FEMA and State Farm was putting him through just to get the help that he needed. I told him not to stress because of his previous heart condition, he died at the age of 74 from a broken heart and a broken spirit. I honestly feel he would be here today if he didn't experience the after affects of a catastrophic event. To make matters worst, I lost my only brother to COVID 3 years later! Some friends have told me-- "We never get over losing a loved one, we just learn how to deal with it." GOD bless all of mankind and GOD bless EXTREME!!

It’s a masterpiece, you are stunning. I lost my Dad, mi friends, my Mum is in poor health… I’ve got so many things to be grateful for, but I have also had shelf pain, like everyone. The only thing I can say, is a huge thank you for the smiles I make when I listen to the song and revise my memory lane or the tears I cry , depending on what I feel at the moment. Weak, strong, time helps you find a balance. Sometimes I hide in my waves as I need to leave from the present and jump into the past. Thank you guys. I really love you ❤
