Watching this video made me realise the phrase is “taking the path of least resistance”. Straight hair people don’t wake up and feel the need to put their hair in straw curls to get an Afro, why do you feel the need to wake up and put it in a bun? That is the path of most resistance. Do what is easiest for your hair.

Thank you for this! I don’t understand why you have to spend time detangling your hair everyday. I wear a twist out…. I fluff and pick and go!

Because some hair gets matted if you just leave it like that, even if my hair is stretched the style will not last more than a day or two and it will still get tangled anytime it is out.

Me as well. Twist or braid out or just a fro. I try to just wear my hair the way it grows from my scalp like everyone else does.

I always see videos of BW complaining about how it takes them 5 hours just to wash and detangle their hair. It only takes me over an hour to wash and detangle my hair and I have long mid back length hair. Also I only comb and style my hair once a week. Maybe if I’m going out often, I’ll style it more than a once a week but I’m definitely not redoing my style everyday. I feel like many BW believe that they have to do a different style everyday. I normally wear my hair in a stretched wash and go from doing the banding method and that’s it. Sometimes I’ll change it up but not everyday.

I will say it depends on your hair, thickness, etc....
@tamiausten873Ай бұрын
I comb and detangle my hair twice a month because I'm always in twists. But when it's wash day, I guess it takes long but not 5 hours. The only time I take that long is when I have to loose my 4 week old twists, so I comb as I loose and wash afterwards. It takes less than 5 hours for me to wash and finish a regular sized twist do, and my hair is really full, it's just below my shoulders but my head is big (people always gawk at my fro and the hairdressers never fall to let me know that I have 5 people's hair). It's obvious these 5 hour gang are doing something extra 😂

@@nomessnostressyes the longer my hair grows, the more time it takes. 1-2 hours for me is just detangling.

@gensai93 yes, same! I love my hair but it's super thick... like a lot of strands... I like to handle it carefully and work in sections to be sure to get everything... WFH has saved my life 🤣

Yeah styling everyday is a LOT. Come to think of it, I've never timed myself when washing my hair before. I'm always in la-la land. Thinking of something I did during the week or watching something and time just passes.

I’m so excited for my hair all 2025!! I found a guy on IG with the most beautiful typ 4 hair and it’s LONG! His routine is so simple and affordable but it makes so much sense. I’m rocking an Afro wig all winter while my hair is in protective styles. For the summer, I plan on rocking an Afro ponytail, I want waist length by 2026

in my opinion, the best quick and easy hair style for 4c girlies is the pineapple/high bun look. all you need is a shoe lace and it will even give you a face lift. The last time I did a sleek back look was June 2023. After I started sleeping on my back, I switched to the up do and it works best for me

Validating yourself is important but I'll take it a step further and say, thinking of ways to deflect other people's negative nasty comments is important too. Work on responses you can say to people who try to shame you and bully you because of your hair. Whether online or in person.

2:11 Tip for anyone wanting hair growth, I know some people don’t like the way it looks (I do lol), but the hairstyles like this are the secret to hair growth. It’s protected, scalp isn’t snatched😂, and if you learn to accept our hair as it is and don’t feel the need to get it flat/sleek as possible, it will last 1-2 weeks (or you can make it a twist out). My sis said “why did your hair grow longer than mine?” (hers is past shoulders by a couple inches - my hair is past my shoulder blades) I told her I literally do my hair once every 1-2 weeks (sometimes 3) either braids, twists, braid outs or twist outs - not exaggerating. We’re Black/African descent. You gotta be okay with “frizz” and not having every hair look “defined”. Your fingers are not going to “run through your hair”. That’s okay. That’s not for our hair. If it’s moisturized, soft to the touch, and scalp is clean, you’re good. That’s the biggest hurdle to get past frfr - the programming. It’s like even when we got past the need for straight hair, we still aren’t fully getting it
@actuallyjuliee7 күн бұрын
Exactly it all comes down to accepting your texture. The comparison is what poison people's minds.

I have grown to love my natural hair. I remember when first went natural. I was still trying to do things, as I had straight hair. I started learning about my hair. My natural hair thick 4a, pass my shoulders. Now I love my natural curls.

Old white lady here. I can confirm that this is true. I tried many times to create an Afro, but every single time ended in disastrous results that badly damaged my thin, fine hair. I tried it again recently to see if I could create a kinky sort of texture for a half-updo, but it ended up looking like Ronald McDonald. My husband looked at me and said "that is the most Grandma sh!t I have ever seen in my life." 😂👵🏻 I love your channel. Thank you for sharing your insights and experience. 🤍🤍

My issue is my hair won’t grow past my shoulders. This makes it difficult to style. I don’t care about the texture. Just the length
@michelleejАй бұрын
You might benefit from focusing on length retention instead of growth. Our hair is always growing. Examine how you care for your hair and identify when ad how you might be causing breakage.
@actuallyjulieeАй бұрын
If you have dead ends that are thin and brittle, I suggest you chop them off. I didn't realise how mine was eating up my length and keeping my growth stagnant till I actually measured how much hair I had later on and saw my inches were disappearing right before my eyes lmao. I should probably make a whole video about that
