Depends on what machine your talking of. If it's the log chipper it's more a matter of blade sharpness. Motor spins a steel drum very very fast blades across the drum hit the log and slice a little off. Blades get dull or are not changed and it bogs down.

Hi, Michael! 🙂It depends on the recycling plant. Some are specialised and only work with certain materials. Aluminium cans are great because they can be melted directly into fresh aluminium and turned straight back into new cans. Glass and plastic are pretty valuable so get sorted and treated and turned into granules which can be made into bottles and low, medium, or high quality plastic. Paper and cardboard is recyclable and gets worked on separately. It can be mushed and reprocessed about six times before the cellulose content is too low to make paper and it's only fit for incineration (burning to heat steam for electricity-generating turbines). High-grade metal scrap like nuts, bolts, nails, screws, cars, wheels, engine blocks, truck bodies, food cans, and anything with lots of iron, steel and aluminium is sorted by magnets, air jets and water baths to separate dross from metal, then the various types are sent off to be melted down and turned back into something useful. The general garbage going into some of these machines is not fit for anything but being dumped as landfill. Wood and organic matter can be turned into garden compost if it's clean, or incinerated if it's too toxic (soaked in oil and diesel) to be processed. The slag and ashes can be used to make building materials. Low-grade plastic's probably full of contaminants and will have been recycled several times already, but it can still be turned into granules which can be melted down yet again and made into various things (insulation boards, packaging, agricultural bedding [for cows!] and industrial flooring mats). The remaining horrible toxic sludge probably gets incinerated, and the resulting cinders and slag are either used for road building or buried as landfill. Unfortunately, once you get past the copper, brass, aluminium, steel and really valuable stuff, it depends on who's monitoring what's going on. Some places probably dump a lot of general shredded crud in landfill. Allegedly. Rubber's valuable, so shredded tyres are chipped and reprocessed either on their own or blended with plastic to make more rubber(-ised) goods such as footwear, mats, fencing, barriers, flooring and roofing materials. Sometimes the whole lot is incinerated and the resulting slag is crushed and turned into road-building material. It's all incredibly complicated, so most of what I've just written is only vaguely correct and barely the tip of the iceberg. Put simply: stuff happens to stuff and makes more stuff because there's loads of money in it.😁

Still have not seen and of these machines try to destroy the same teeth used in the machine, pull apart the teeth used in the shredder and put it the machine and then we will see if it can do what its made to do, shred metal ? Basically tungsten carbide teeth,which is what most of the very large steel shredding machines use. :)

once the waste is reduced it usually goes in a furnace, this heats water and then the steam generates electricity. Alternatively, it gets used to fuel and heat the kilns in cement factories.
