Great video. For people not familiar with Lr this is a great, quick tutorial to see what it's capable of to help recover details from RAW images and using tools. Thank you

Beautiful shot, Mark. I'm amazed that you were able to recover so much detail from the shadows. I can't count the number of shots I've discarded that were heavily underexposed like that!

dexterwas probbaly because your camera's DR is poor. on the latest sony sensor, you can recover stuff like that
@GiuseppePipia
@GiuseppePipia 9 жыл бұрын
dexterwas Well it depends on how you expose your image: if you get black pixels, you get black pixels and there's no way you can recover that. I've been able to recover images like that on my 70D with no issues at all. Just being careful to not lose details in the shadows and dark areas when I expose for the highlights.

Excellent video, Mark. I have a question unrelated to the topic: How does using a lens adapter that introduces additional distance between lens and camera sensor change the characteristics of a lens/picture? Thanks in advance,

you dont need HDR function but you do need a good camera like D750 to bring back detail in shadow

Outstanding video Mark as always. When using the technique described here, I typically find a good deal of noise in the under-exposed portions of the image. Did you find noise in this image and did you correct it?

Very nice Sunset in Kathmandu! IMHO a bit overdone. Well, I don't like the very candy HDR (or cross developement) look. But that's personal taste... Also you can see some odd halo effects in the hills...(?) But... Hadn't you issues with noise? If I crank up the shadows like that, there is creeping in soooo much noise! And LR noise reduction will flatten all those fine details in the foreground. Thankful for your comment.

Fernando Muller even in the film era people used to "tweak" their image in the darkroom, nowdays you can do great things, but even 30 years ago you could do a lot of corrections

I thought it looked great, except for the ghosting. Besides backing off clarity and shadows, is there another way to get rid of ghosting? I find this problem allot and now use HDR with my sunrise/sunset shots.

Nice video, u can do this with a leica, or a fullframe, but thats it, try to open up the shadows on a photo taken with an entry level dslr, or even a semi "pro" dslr u end up with a lot of noise.

honestly is this processing consider photoshop/editing? you photography skill vs editing skill... or do you consider editing skill as part of photography skill. Whats the difference between post processing and editing?
@GiuseppePipia
@GiuseppePipia 9 жыл бұрын
Ludwig Van Pictures I don't see any difference between the two. Also photography skill and editing skill go hand in hand: if you don't know how to photograph that scenery, you'd probably get perfectly exposed terrain, but losing all the highlights in the clouds and the sun, or have perfectly exposed highlights, but pitch black terrain. In these two cases there's NO WAY you can recover anything. Then it comes the editing/post-processing: where you develop the two parts of the picture independently but being able to do a seamless image. Which can't be done if you don't expose correctly (i.e. not lose much detail neither in the shadows or highlights).

If used properly, luminosity blending will yield a far better and more natural image, one day people will realise this, then world of photography will be a better place, when photoshop masters are regarded like the master printers of yesteryear, instead of frauds, some amazing work will start coming out, things like focus blending, luminosity blending and numerous other techniques will only expand the art.
