If you're going to be doing this sort of thing, you definitely need head protection. I can speak from experience that even with a helmet, it'll still hurt, but it hurts a hell of a lot less than landing on your bare head!

Even so, it seems that it is fatal with a life-threatening injury, the discs will be destroyed and he will be left with lifelong after-effects.
