Gotta admit- there's nothing like the sound of steam! They really had soul. Absolutely mesmerizing.

Locomotives (along The Broadway in Philly) rolled by a block behind our school in the Fifties. We'd all moan if it wasn't a smoker. Sister in 3rd Grade had all the schedules and we knew the names of most of the trains goin' by. We also groaned at the sound of the new diesels.

No kidding! I swear these lovely "iron ladies" have a rhythm all their own if you listen hard enough.

@@elizabethcoen Actually you don't have to listen hard - just listen! And enjoy!

Love that Yakima River Canyon at 2:28. My home territory. What a beautiful place for train watching, fishing and river floating.

I have to agree with 'theuntold90'. Don't get me wrong, Southern Pacific #4449 always looks good. However, if I were to put her paint schemes in order from best to not quite the best (NOT BAD), the order would be: 1) Warbaby paint scheme (black and silver), 2) American Freedom Train paint scheme (red, white, & blue), and 3) her normal paint scheme (red and orange). This is just my opinion, though.

Got a question, I'm sure someone can answer it. Why is it that the smoke from the stacks, can be black as night, one time then grey or white at other times. New at this railfanning love the steamers and trying to learn all I can. Thank you.
