Extreme Way to Tighten Nib Slit / Tine. Text Narration Only. [CC]

In this video, I'm going to demonstrate the how to tighten nib slit/tine gap. Reducing tine gap is a way to reduce the ink flow, making the nib drier. This is desirable if your pen is "too wet" or you've over-widen the nib in the previous procedure.

Tôi nghĩ vấn đề là chiều dọc của ngòi bút đã bị tổn thương ( bị uốn cong quá mức trong lúc viết dẫn đến biến dạng mỏi). Hiện trạng là ngòi bút đã bị cong lên theo “C” chứ không còn là nguyên dạng thẳng “I” ( tính theo chiều dọc của ngòi bút). Bản chất nguyên bản của ngòi bút khi được kẹp vào thân bút đã được thiết kế theo dạng 1/2 ống tròn với phần đầu ngòi to và chân ngòi nhỏ. Khi được nẹp vào bút sẽ bị bẻ cong lại ở chân ngòi và đầu ngòi sẽ khép lại ( bạn quan sát ngòi nguyên bản lúc mới mua sẽ thấy rõ nhất điều này, nó thể hiện rõ ở lổ thở của tim mực và phần đầu của ngòi bút). Việc cần làm là để ngòi bút nằm trên một mặt phẳng, tiếp theo nãy dùng một thanh gỗ nhỏ và mềm, đè và vuốt từ đầu ngòi đến lổ thở. Kiểm tra lại độ cong từ tim mực ra 2 cánh, đảm bảo nó không bị cong ngược lên. Sau đó lắp ngòi vào bút lại bạn sẽ hiểu nguyên lý hoạt động của nó. Việc uốn cong 2 cánh của đầu ngòi như trên chỉ gây ra tổn thương theo dạng chữ “Y” về phương chịu lực cho 2 cánh của ngòi và nó sẽ tạo ra các vết nứt “ biến dạng mỏi”. Nếu việc này lập đi lập lại 2-3 lần thì tôi nghĩ bạn nên mua 1 chiếc ngòi mới vì thật sự bạn đã làm tổn thương cái ngòi n+1 lần nữa.

you check the ink flow with finger, not on a paper - by purpose? :) is there a difference?

For video recording purpose, it's just easier for me to bring my finger to the nib to test it, instead of bringing the nib away from the camera focus to the paper repeatedly.

Just watched two of your videos: opening too tight tines, and closing too open tines. But here's a question that no one seems discuss: if one tine is higher than the other, how do you know which one needs fixing? The higher tine might need lowering, or the lower tine might need raising.

Normally we'll mostly go for bringing the higher tine downwards. Because it is more likely to make the nib bend away from the feed, if you try to bring the lower tine up.

Yes those are soft rings. It can be pulled open split at the middle, and that's how to insert the refills. It's a cheap no brand one I found online. It's not really that soft, just, not rigid.

How would you do this on a pen whose nib can't be removed like the vanishing point?

For nib that can't be removed, I will just try to do the same with the nib still in the feed. I've did a few times like that, because sometimes I'm lazy to take the nib off. Also, pretty sure vanishing point's nib can be removed from the nib assembly unit, although I didn't own a pilot VP. I've seen Brian Goulet's video on this before.
