This is more like a WuShu version of karate. Acrobatic, skilful and spectacular undoubtedly, but less effective for self defence.

Nah, I think wushu is even better than this, I think it's the karate style that derived from tang soo do that was later mistaken to be karate

Gymnastics tricks are cool but what happened to having actual martial arts techniques and basics? No stances, no lock outs, nothing practical. Sorry

This guy did a great job demonstrating agility, strength, endurance, and focus. THAT SAID...someday, I'm sure the "Bruno Mars of Sport Karate" will come along, and bring back that 80's-early 00's soul ✊😌. One can only hope lol

There is more to martial arts than just it’s basics. The four core aspects of martial arts is Attitude, Logic, Basics, and Fitness. Sport Martial Arts is just that, a sport. It’s intention isn’t to be practical but for it to look cool, just like 90% of every movie fight scenes. The basics aren’t effective in combat because that is not its intention. No offense but I find it frustrating when martial artist (myself included) try to gatekeep what is or isn’t “martial arts”. I think we forget about the “art” part of it, there is no right or wrong thing. To me, so long as we are upfront about the fact that this is a sport martial art, not meant for combat, then there is no issue with it, and just because it isn’t meant for fighting doesn’t mean it’s not a martial art, because you are still practicing those core aspects, attitude, logic, basics, and fitness. I don’t find Tai chi to be particularly effective, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a martial art, because it still does an amazing job at practicing those 4 things.

@@Kayden_S_05 The basics are the most important and should be solid (effective). You misunderstand combat sports, probably because you’ve only exposed yourself to things like sport karate or TKD. If all combat sport is meant just for show then why is wrestling, boxing, kickboxing, full blown mma all more effective arts than pretty much all non sport martial arts? Think about that. Also, you fixate on the word “art” but completely disregard the “martial” part of it. You can have your core values and concepts and practices, but at the end of the day we are all training to be formidable fighters. Tai chi, while no longer effective, was made with the inherent intention of being an effective combative art. If all you are fixated on is the art we might as well call knitting class a martial art too. These days everyone wants to deduce things to subjectivity because it is typically associated with higher thinking/perception for some reason but it is not always the case. Some things are objective and must be what they are, for if lines are not drawn, it cannot be.

@@songoku8627 I would disagree, first off basics aren’t the most important, attitude is, but I digress. I wonder why you think I have only been exposed to sport martial arts and tricking? I have a black belt in Kenpo, a blue belt in BJJ, and I have a kickboxing fight coming up here in March. I think you fundamentally misunderstood what I was saying. I never said all martial arts are for show, that would be absurd, I am saying that the fact that sport martial arts is for show doesn’t discount it, now obviously there is a certain point in which the “martial” needs to be taken out of the art but I don’t think sport martial arts is there, just like say tai chi sport martial arts has its roots in arts like taekwondo and tang soo do, arts that were employed by the Korean military. Now I would agree in saying it is probably more sport than martial arts but it doesn’t entirely discount it from being a martial art. Besides, the fact that it is for show doesn’t mean it’s not useful in combat, the coordination and bodily awareness needed for sport martial arts alone puts you at an advantage in combat. I mean where do you think gymnastics came from? It was an exercise for Roman soldiers to make sure they said agile and coordinated. I feel like you are getting caught up in the semantics of “martial arts” meaning that you are ignoring the usefulness of it in martial arts. Edit: it just occurred to me that we might be having a miscommunication with “sport martial arts” MMA, BJJ, and Wrestling are all “sport martial arts” but when I say that I am referring to the flippy tricky pretty boy karate. Typically when referring to stuff like MMA I will refer to it as “combat sports”

Seriously...it's not breakdane where the more power moves you show the more they clap...the boy/man has his moves and technique but I think in the 90's/2000 it was better...more dynamic...maybe powerful and more about the substance....sorry if for some people I talk bullshit
