Although you have done an amazing job, I believe it would be easier to make a conventional stick welder into a spot welder by making the arms and copper points. By the way, I can purchase a commercially built spot welder for $450 and I would be guaranteed safety. So is it worth the effort?

If anyones wondering, that tank he cut and welded the square onto was a pressure tank found in rural homes with a well. It maintains the pressure of your water supply without running your pump constantly. It has a rubber bladder filled with air that compresses against the water pressure.

Rural you say. What if you in down town but your house is on top of the highest point in downtown and the water pressure isn't enough to "push" the water up your hill? And yes this does happen. Either way a booster pump would be installed to aid in getting you water from the bottom of the hill to the top and a bladder tank, which is what they are called, is used in this application as a reservoir same as with a well pump. Also small bladder tanks are installed over water heaters for the sake of thermal expansion but we won't get into that

@@derrickfeltner6634 I think the important thing was it was not a gas tank, with all the "interesting" safety concerns that cutting into one can raise. A small steel barrel would also do as it is just the holder for the fire clay.

Never crimp copper cables to end connector with a pair of pliers, use the proper tool or just solder it in place, then add the shrink wrap. On plastic bumpers, you melt the wire into the plastic on the inside that way it will not be seen from the outside, then sand and bondo the exterior for a cleaner finish.

I would never recommend letting anyone with little knowledge of electronics try any of this on their own. I worked my entire electronics career as a technician, first in the Air Force, then commercially. In the military on Radar, with up to 1500 volts at enough to let you know you don't want to touch it. Outside, up to 80,000 volts in X-ray equipment, I called those voltages, "Crispy Beacon" voltages, 80Kv at 5 to 8 amps, if you mistreat it, you fry.

@@k9officerft434 Agreed. I've been hit enough times that I'm very cautious about high voltage. It seems that safety feature to keep you from getting tagged, it's the one thing that dies first. That leaves high voltage tanks in X-ray equipment live. Being over cautious kept me alive.

Microwave oven transformers are not “extremely dangerous” if you remove the original, high-voltage secondary and replace it with a low-voltage, high-current one (like in these projects). Otherwise, yes, they are probably responsible for more deaths than any other DIY project; the voltage one makes is comparable to that in an electric chair! The real danger is in disassembling the microwave; they contain capacitors that can store a lethal charge, even when the microwave has been disconnected from power!

Excellent examples a Spot Welder, Electromagnetic Drill Press ~ Ferrous Material Holder, (Awesome easy setup!!!) and a Firestick Crucible. The ONLY Extremely Dangerous part of all of what is shown is the Materials List required for the most part. I have used all three tools, Commercially Manufactured, with less capabilities and ease of use! Even if a quick display of Components list possibly, would make the Whole Build a LOT safer. Those that just try, and Guess will end up possibly building something that could be an Injury in the making or that Funeral they get to personally Host, as the Star Attraction! LOL Exceptional Workmanship with innovative ideas for otherwise Expensive useful tools! Thank You!

......... and to add critically here. One should understand the "Depth Guage" or "Drill Stop", function on their Drill Press, or Fireworks could be in that Mix perhaps? LOL Otherwise a Huge Time saver device is what I'd call that! You'd be surprised why Caution Labels Exist! HA! But I see the Utility here that surpasses my very Expensive "Mag Drill" I own! At least for small items anyway! Possibly add a 1/2" thick, Sacrificial Drill plate, atop of the Magnet would be a safer option here??? I do that in Reverse, with my Mag Drill routinely for a depth Guage device! Sort of like when drilling wood to have a Scrap piece under the Project, perhaps?

Although it isn't a conductor, remember it isn't an insulator either. I built this spot welder last week. I used wood, but I wrapped it with steel and aluminum so no wood is exposed to the heat. The wood is okay, as long as you provide for adjusting the position of the electrodes. Steel, when mounted to wood, always stresses the wood and moves around a little.
