Agreed. I want something 350 -450 cc as a light ish dirt bike, with big road style brake discs , spoke wheels (maybe in whatever sizes the V strom uses, so we have choice), fuel injection, an aluminum sub frame on the tail, real reinforced bark busters stock, a big plastic tank, a tall narrow windsheild like everyone eventually changes out to, and almost nothing else. The thing should be light. No ABS. No GPS controlled 6 way suspension. No sharp cornered pannier kit mounted high up.

Best on/off adventure bike on the market right now IMO... Love my Ktm 690. I'm getting ready to set mine up for long distance trips.

Beautiful bike and looks very capable (in capable hands) for plenty of off-road tracks. I'd bet that 95% of ADV riders on those liter bikes rarely venture off the tarmac for fear of dropping their precious rig. Mid-range/weight ADV is the sweet spot. And Dakar Rally bikes are limited to 450cc now but still rip it up.

Good you mentioned the street legality in some US states. Same problem here in Europe (which something I a regularily pointing out): that bike can never be street legal in Europe because the tanks are not type approved / E-marked, which would require some intensive and expensive testing. To my knowledge only the KTM Basel kit for the 690 is street legal, all other kits aren't. And with Euro4 things get even worse. There is basically no way to add fuel tanks to a bike without going through the homologation process again!

Late to the party I know, check out Kit690, the tanks used are from the factory rally bikes so I assume type-approval is not an issue.

I bet a dollar that Texas will love the kit... I really feel sorry for all of those guys who live in States that nitpick to the Nth degree over Street legal bikes with bolt-on kits in the protective/comfort/ cosmetic category... I'd love to get this bike with the motard configuration with the wheels to swap out for sprinting out to trailheads, but you know that kit alone cost a pretty penny.

Why do Americans have a problem pronouncing Husqvarna ? It is simply pronounced Husqvarna , not Husq-A-varna.

i called a dealership in the area and when I was telling the woman that I needed parts for my husqvarna, she didn't know what I was talking about. Then she proceeded to say, "Oh your looking for parts for you huskwanna." I couldn't believe what I was hearing. Sure enough, she said it like two more times like that and I cringed each time lol Needless to say, she was zero help.

We also have trouble with Acerbis and Akropovic apparently. Akropovic was pronounced differently from the way I'd say it in the video. (Ack-raw-po-vick) vs they said (Ack-ra-paw-vick). Wasn't pronounced in the video, but I've watched quite a few videos over the past week and a lot of people say (Acer-bis) instead of (Ah-chair-bees).

Checkout the "KIT690" rally kit for the 701 or the KTM 690 . Been riding mine for six years . Bomb proof ! Much less $$$$

because the bike cat just over 10000 dollars and the rally kit cost over 6000 dollars. so its bit of an investment

paulradford2008 only reason this kit is 6000 is because it's fully carbon fiber... Husky can easily make a polymer kit.

Mark Luciani completely agree all the manufacturers are missing a beat in the rally bike section. Seems the old ktm rallye was the last off the peg bike with this styling. Shame.

OffRoadKingdom yes please!!! It's a dirt/adv bike for gods sake. No carbon fiber BODY parts. I'm gonna beat it up n drop it having fun! Come on Husky. You got our attention!!! I'm leaving my R1200GSA for a lighter narrower adv bike...i love the ktm 1290SAR but I'd like to drop much more than 50lbs here. Make this rally kit out of polymer etc and make it $1500/2k. Then the 701 rally will sell like freaking hot cakes. Not to mention all the accessories to set it up for some distance. Man that bike looks awesome and fun!

The factory rally bikes used polymer tanks, not sure about modern ones. They're listed on the microfiche, Kit690 use them, really tough.

is the suspension travel is the same? going to a 300mm would probably make the biggest difference in off-road performance.

Great project. Which 701 is this? The 2016 or 2017? (Major difference in regular road comfort due to the Duke engine in the 2017)

Not with the carbon fiber fairings, the claimed weight for the 701 enduro is 344lbs, probably dry, and I dont think this bike is much heavier than that. I am guessing 360ish lbs at the most (just a guess)? but with a rear fuel tank it must carry its weight well.

imagine this one... the old 09-10 KAWI KLX450R weighed 277 lbs and it was purely for enduro. The 701 is well underweight for what it was born to be.

Just the kit is 15.6kg, so final weight with just that would be 378lbs.

What is "best" for longer adventure road trips a bike like KTM 690 with rally kit or a KTM 1190 stock? Comparing KTM because Husqvarna don't have something like the 1190

About the Akrapovic...you say it A-kra-po-vic...you should say it all in one and the last letter c with that little thing above it is pronounced like you say the ch in cheese :)

Loving the look of this bike, but I do have one slight criticism! As with previous rally kits that exist for the ktm 690, a low slung exhaust, as featured on factory rally bikes, is not part of the design of this conversion. I believe this compromises the design in every way from cooling, ease of maintenance, fuel capacity, weight etc.. as well as the all important looks! I realize the reason for this is probably so that the bike can still accommodate a pillion passenger, but i would rather have an all out rally design personally.

Check out Kit690, pipe is rally style to allow bigger rear tank. Expensive but great quality/design.

Carbon for an off road seems pointless. Plastic bends and is cheaper. Check out the www.nomad-adv.com kit

You can buy an actual, original KTM 690 RR, if you have enough money. No need to droll over a one shot custom build bike.

it's really not a good idea to make any of the body work out of carbon fiber. It cracks way too easy and these bikes get dumped over easily! Plastic isn't that much heavier..
