Thank you for this Mr. George! I have lab practicum coming up and since we cannot go to school and do it in an actual lab, it was planned to do it through zoom video call which makes it harder not having the equipment needed and just verbalizing everything. Your videos are amazing and very helpful!

Thank you for taking the time to make this video. It's incredibly clear and well explained, as well as with key aspects of communication with the individual (or in this case, mannequin) that is being extubated.

If I am ever in this situation as a patient and the provider does not make sure that I am still sedated or gives me more sedation before extubation, there is going to be some drama in the trauma bay.

I'm writing a book in which someone has an extubation preformed and for months now a sentence reading "INSERT SCENE BRIEFLY DETAILING REMOVAL OF THE BREATHING TUBE." has remained in all caps awkwardly among normally written narrative. After this video I can replace that with an accurate scene.

This video was very informative, only one question why not roll the supplies over the bed and have all you need right in front of you, rather than having to turn and reach for the items as you need them.

thank you. I hope I never have this happen to me, but I wanted to know how to pull the tube out if I woke up with one in my mouth. I didn't know that the tube was big enough to breathe through when turned off, or that the machine could wean you. This calms my nerves quite a bit. Thank you.

It's not fun waking up after one has been pulled out. I had to have a breathing tube in for surgery and they pulled mine out when I was still under. I woke up when I got to recovery. Started coughing and I gasped for breath and felt as if I couldn't breath, it was Definitely scary but I had to stop freaking out enough to regain my regular breathing. My mouth and throat was so dry I downed a cup of water in 2 seconds flat.

Hi George! With the end tidal monitoring are you placing it before the corgating tube closer to the patient? Or is it the patient, corgating tubing, etco2 line, then vent circuit? Thanks so much!

My husband is 40% on ventilator, doctors said they gonna monitor him if he can breath on his on then they ll take the tube out. How many times did you see that patient can't breath on his/her own? And how long they can stay on ventilator? Thank you.
@GeorgeORRT
@GeorgeORRT 4 жыл бұрын
Hi: I hope that your husband is stable and is improving to a point where he can be extubated (tube comes out). Your questions are difficult to answer as the prognosis of the patient depends on the illness, comorbidity, general health of the patient, age, etc. As long as he is showing gradual improvement, there is a good chance that he'll come off of the ventilator and have the tube removed. If he has a slower recovery, he may eventually have a tracheostomy performed and breathe through a trach tube until he is eventually weaned. In some cases, despite all efforts, some patients may become ventilator dependent and may never come off the machine except for short periods of time. Lets hope (and pray) that he gets stronger by the day so that he can have the breathing tube removed so that you can hear him speak to you once again.

@@Shazi167 40% is a lower O2 concentration and hopefully it will be lowered as he gets better.

I was taken to a hospital on 1/30. I extubated myself when I woke up. I also removed the IV and catheter. A trauma surgeon's notes on page marked (Modified) says an unnamed RT extubated me, but there are no charts at all from an RT or a cross trained MD. Is this normal? Some early attending notes say "wean as tolerated" but nothing appears on the procedures list, including the extubation, I was in an MVA, alcohol was involved, but my problem chart says only "Covid 19" Can anybody opine??? thanks!
