Following a collaboration with Exurb1a, a British youtuber, Roelofs was hospitalised in November 2016 for acute stress disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, depression and suicidal ideation. During her 7-month hospitalisation, Roelofs began speaking out against her former work partner who she stated used Reddit to smear her name. Roelofs said the KZbinr had assaulted and raped her in October 2016, had started threatening her between November-December 2016, and subsequently "blackmailed" her to leave the hospital to talk to him while she was drugged with prescribed medication, and that he raped her while she was unable to fight him. One of the prescribed medications she had been taking was Xanax, a benzodiazepine and well-known date rape drug.

@@Joelsonfarrn I have to agree with you there, but also in this case it's clear that the due process has failed the people involved. By putting myself into exurb1a's shoes, I can't find a reason myself why he chose to go against her allegations in such a roundabout way other than to avoid having to make a public statement against her. @@tomc.5704 I agree with you. Ideally, people should be able to serve the sentence for their crimes and then move on from there. The sad thing, however, is that Exurb1a hasn’t faced legal consequence for his actions against Pieke. The Dutch government is notorious for its low rape conviction rate, and Pieke’s case was held back at every turn. “In December 2020, Roelofs and her lawyers sent a complaint to the European Court of Human Rights after the Dutch prosecution office recognised she was indeed sexually abused by the suspect, but the prosecutor intended not to prosecute him.” A quote from her Wikipedia article. And so I post these comments, because exurb1a hasn’t yet been held accountable, and this is the only means I have of ensuring an unrepentant criminal doesn’t walk away completely scot free.

Now that you're in this clusterfuck of a situation already, better make the most of it. We're all in this together, only few make it out in time. There's only two ways of freeing yourself from a capitalist society: you either learn to want nothing and be happy (become a bum or a buddhist) or you learn a set of skills that you allow to be exploited by a company or you learn a slightly broader skill set so you can start exploiting the system yourself. Now that you've chosen the employee-path: make sure you get paid (counter-exploit by learning a high-demand skill and negotiation), maybe even threaten switching jobs and leverage your labour value to increase personal income, do this every 2 years. You hate this job already so don't feel bad pressuring a company, they try to exploit you and society just as much by underpaying and harvesting data. Preferably negotiate equity in the company and try to stick around for long enough to participate in a liquidation event (a company making a successful exit). If participating in a liquidation event is not an option, start a business yourself (benefit: you can work on solving a problem you actually care about) and work until you have solid cashflow to sustain your lifestyle or raise venture capital and work towards a liquidation event (ironically, by raising investment, you'll fall back into exploitative behavior again, stress will rise as you have to satisfy investor demands, meet KPIs and achieve unrealistic growth targets through blitzscaling). Until the liquidation event, invest a significant portion of your personal income into index funds (which, ironically, perpetuates the system, but hey) and privacy oriented crypto-currencies. Consistent monthly investing in the markets is the only guaranteed way of financial freedom if done long enough (like 30 years), given you don't manage to participate in a liquidation event AND the world economy doesn't completely collapse (small chance on the short term). I think we still have a solid century to go with our current exploitative capitalist system before we reach a point of societal and economic collapse, so there's time to wrestle yourself out of this system. After liquidation event of said company, liquidate all your stock options, buy an earth ship on high fertile ground, have some farmland, grow some crops, get some cows and sheep and preferably a dog. Make sure you're somewhere remote, far away from the big world powers. Make sure to diversify your assets in gold and privacy-cryptocurrencies. We need to have physical gold to safeguard our value in case our digital systems fail. Cryptocurrencies are useful if we still have operating internet and we need to transfer money across borders without going through a centralized institutions (so guaranteeing privacy) and will still allow us to trade. Settle down, buckle up, and watch the civilized world's great implosion from a safe distance. Food systems will collapse, extreme weather events will increase, climate refugee crises will cause tensions to increase, and a great war will be fought, but you will not have to give two shits about it and just live your life with your farm animals sipping tequila sunrise and reading silly comments on obscure youtube videos.

@@shlak I looked it up and he hasn't been charged with anything. Sure there is a story about something that may or may not have happened. But until he is brought to justice if he did do something wrong, it is all speculation and hearsay. I enjoy his videos and message about where society is and could be headed. I stay away from drama and politics on purpose. Because nothing is as it seems. And one can very easily find themselves down a rabbit hole of untruths and not be able to claw themselves back to reality. I'm absolutely not against a victim of any crime speaking out, but it needs to be backed up with an investigation of the truth. And until that happens it is just drama and speculation.

@@taborturtle He wrote about what he has done, and in the netherlands the only reason he has not been arrested is because of police misconduct. I always wondered what kind of people actually made up the oppressors in 1984. That's the question Orwell never really answered. He just answered how they were conceived of. Truth seeing is not necessary seeing what needs to be changed, what needs to be stoped or what needs to be prevented. It's just seeing. It's hard to be scared of something you truly understand, and it's hard to hate something you truly see for what it is. That's what makes man in the high castle so good.

@@lepthymo If you want to see who made up the oppressors in 1984, just look around you. Every year we seem to be getting closer and closer to the dystopia that is 1984. We have people policing others against wrongthink. Say the wrong thing online and people will go out of their way to find out who you are, where you work, and get you fired and destroy your social life. We have people who modify the definitions of words, to mean something different. We have people focused on memory-holing news articles and books and information. We have people teaching others, especially kids, to believe in concepts that are contradictory to reality as if they are real. We even had the Ministry of Truth making an appearance. Just look at the people doing these things and you will see the kind of people who start it all. But, really, we all are to blame as well. We all who comply with this madness.

Not gonna lie, the premise sort of derailed at the point about behavioral surplus for me. Seems far fetched to think that information is going to be compiled and used maliciously or even meaningfully, ever. Too many resources needed and for what exactly?
@aless52072 жыл бұрын
@@sumkindacheeto It is already being used. Banks use it to set loan/saving rates, retailers use it to direct sales and stock ordering and governments (probably) use it to enhance incumbency. Many large retail conglomerates have been installing webcams on registers and using these and CCTV to build profiles on customers similar to the CCP social credit system. As explained in the video, there are businesses who exist only to collate and provide modeled predictions to such customers. They are usually called "Media Intelligence" or "Data Technology" companies, you can find many advertising services online. I think the business model is usually acquiring data from customer databases, scraping the web or buying data from Alphabet then organising proprietary databases and applying pattern recognition algorithms to make predictions.

Just earlier today I was going through some old baby photos of myself and I had this strange feeling about it, like semi-nostalgia was there but there was something else. After watching this video I think it was the feeling that this is some crazy shit we're living in. These old paper squares in a book gave me a view of a time I do not remember, a view humans would never see until modern history. And those were old physical photos, as time goes on the convenience of recording every step of one's life becomes greater and greater. I guess it's sort of the same thing with surveillance, it's just getting more and more and more prevalent to the point where my generation sees it as the default. I don't even know if I'm scared or outraged or anything, I think I'm just awestruck. What a house we have made for ourselves.
