Following a collaboration with Exurb1a, a British youtuber, Roelofs was hospitalised in November 2016 for acute stress disorder, post traumatic stress disorder, depression and suicidal ideation. During her 7-month hospitalisation, Roelofs began speaking out against her former work partner who she stated used Reddit to smear her name. Roelofs said the KZbinr had assaulted and raped her in October 2016, had started threatening her between November-December 2016, and subsequently "blackmailed" her to leave the hospital to talk to him while she was drugged with prescribed medication, and that he raped her while she was unable to fight him. One of the prescribed medications she had been taking was Xanax, a benzodiazepine and well-known date rape drug.

@@Joelsonfarrn I have to agree with you there, but also in this case it's clear that the due process has failed the people involved. A cursory glance over Pieke's Wikipedia article shows that the systems put into place to protect people like her or to determine guilt or innocence have actively resisted and rebutted her case at every turn, especially when compounded with the Netherlands' suspiciously low rape conviction rate. By putting myself into exurb1a's shoes, I can't find a reason myself why he chose to go against her allegations in such a roundabout way other than to avoid having to make a public statement against her. His actions, personally, reek to high heaven, and I can't in good conscience support a man who skirts around accusations in this manner. That said, I think your stance is a perfectly fair one to hold.

The Dutch government is notorious for its low rape conviction rate, and Pieke’s case was held back at every turn. “In December 2020, Roelofs and her lawyers sent a complaint to the European Court of Human Rights after the Dutch prosecution office recognised she was indeed sexually abused by the suspect, but the prosecutor intended not to prosecute him.” A quote from her Wikipedia article. I have been starting to learn coding (python) but don't have this as my core value to give to the world, ethics, morality, science, the willingness to decrease unnecessary suffering and to make people's perceived reality as positive as can be or have a positive impact either way. Now that you're in this clusterfuck of a situation already, better make the most of it. We're all in this together, only few make it out in time. There's only two ways of freeing yourself from a capitalist society: you either learn to want nothing and be happy (become a bum or a buddhist) or you learn a set of skills that you allow to be exploited by a company or you learn a slightly broader skill set so you can start exploiting the system yourself. Now that you've chosen the employee-path: make sure you get paid (counter-exploit by learning a high-demand skill and negotiation), maybe even threaten switching jobs and leverage your labour value to increase personal income, do this every 2 years. You hate this job already so don't feel bad pressuring a company, they try to exploit you and society just as much by underpaying and harvesting data. Preferably negotiate equity in the company and try to stick around for long enough to participate in a liquidation event (a company making a successful exit). If participating in a liquidation event is not an option, start a business yourself (benefit: you can work on solving a problem you actually care about) and work until you have solid cashflow to sustain your lifestyle or raise venture capital and work towards a liquidation event (ironically, by raising investment, you'll fall back into exploitative behavior again, stress will rise as you have to satisfy investor demands, meet KPIs and achieve unrealistic growth targets through blitzscaling). Until the liquidation event, invest a significant portion of your personal income into index funds (which, ironically, perpetuates the system, but hey) and privacy oriented crypto-currencies. Consistent monthly investing in the markets is the only guaranteed way of financial freedom if done long enough (like 30 years), given you don't manage to participate in a liquidation event AND the world economy doesn't completely collapse (small chance on the short term). I think we still have a solid century to go with our current exploitative capitalist system before we reach a point of societal and economic collapse, so there's time to wrestle yourself out of this system. After liquidation event of said company, liquidate all your stock options, buy an earth ship on high fertile ground, have some farmland, grow some crops, get some cows and sheep and preferably a dog. Make sure you're somewhere remote, far away from the big world powers. Make sure to diversify your assets in gold and privacy-cryptocurrencies. We need to have physical gold to safeguard our value in case our digital systems fail. Cryptocurrencies are useful if we still have operating internet and we need to transfer money across borders without going through a centralized institutions (so guaranteeing privacy) and will still allow us to trade. Settle down, buckle up, and watch the civilized world's great implosion from a safe distance. Food systems will collapse, extreme weather events will increase, climate refugee crises will cause tensions to increase, and a great war will be fought, but you will not have to give two shits about it and just live your life with your farm animals sipping tequila sunrise and reading silly comments on obscure youtube videos.

You must know I'm following your work for quite a while and I can see through your videos literally your cycles of thinking and evolving. This video is a masterpiece with valid points. The hard truth is, you shared it on a platform owned by Google and will likely monetize it through CPMs. This in return helps you sustain yourself, your family, and more videos like this. It's a vicious cycle but also thr most apprehensive one we've thought of. As a digital marketer now, i never dreamt to be one. While I apply certain morals to how I do my work, and recently finished writing about 120 pages thesis I can't deny love it or hate it we benefit from this infrastructure. I think the deepest question we get to is are people going to have corrupt thoughts by nature if we lived without walls, or not. That's whole nature versus nurture topic. Having grown in a small place, I felt quite out of place when moving to bigger cities. Would be keen to hear your thoughts on this, especially with sharing a city right now (if you're still here).

Interesting to think of the possible results a secret-less society could provide, though. If all information was accessible by everyone, equally - It's easy to imagine as a hell for us, but maybe that's a result of our own flaws. I think that secrets could very well be a necessary sacrifice to utopia. A world where lying, adultery, and hypocrisy are nigh impossible, if not outright illogical and contradictory? I feel that if the possibility of "getting away with it" was cast away completely, we would be better people. Of course, there are downsides, as well, as privacy is necessary for the moralities of many, like modesty, for instance.

I think the weirdest thing about all this data collection is that. no human actually knows how it works. Sure, all the tech giants wrote neural network algorithms to maximize profits, but no human assigns variables. No human can pull up some source code and understand how to fix it. We've made many digital krakens, and at this point they're fighting between themselves. If we end up with a winner, one algorithm analyzing all types of user data, then the water will certianly be cursed.

@@All4Tanuki the slippery slope is a fallacy. It's just that many things are often misidentified as a slippery slope. The fallacy is when you assume one single chain of events each of which take it a bit/alot further and require new reasons to be jutistifed or do not have sufficient historical backing. It'd be a fallacy if, for example, I said "They're trying to get Christianity out of schools. Next they'll get it out of politics, out of our homes, they'll come after your bibles, they'll make it a crime to believe the truth God is real. We can all see it. We have people who modify the definitions of words, to mean something different. We have people focused on memory-holing news articles and books and information. We have people teaching others, especially kids, to believe in concepts that are contradictory to reality as if they are real. We even had the Ministry of Truth making an appearance. As explained in the video, there are businesses who exist only to collate and provide modeled predictions to such customers. They are usually called "Media Intelligence" or "Data Technology" companies, you can find many advertising services online. And those were old physical photos, as time goes on the convenience of recording every step of one's life becomes greater and greater. I guess it's sort of the same thing with surveillance, it's just getting more and more and more prevalent to the point where my generation sees it as the default.
