Because the vast majority of people buying smartphones don't check performance tests, mosts don't even know (or care) what kind of processor their device uses. Approach ten random Samsung phone users in the street and ask them what a Snapdragon is, I bet eight will think it's some kind of small aggressive dog breed. Samsung sells worse phones at higher prices in the rest of the world compared to the US because *it can*. People still buy it. Companies really only change their behaviour if punished by customers with lower sales, leading to losses in profit. As long as they can slap their cheap in-house processor in a phone and it still sells like hot cakes, there is zero incentive for them to change.

In all cases, the phone is connected to wifi and not in use. Got the following battery usage results: 1) 2 sim, network type one 3g, the other 4g - consumption 2.0% per hour 2) 2 sim, network type of both 4g - consumption 0.8% per hour 3) 2 sim, network type of both 3g - consumption 1.8% per hour 4) 1 sim, 3g network type - consumption 0.5% per hour As a result, we have obscenely high battery consumption with 3g network type when 2 sims are used.

hi @@techmo2020! At 6:02 , although you toggled the option for 'limit apps and home screen', you didn't turn on the power saving mode at the very top of the screen back again. That's why it didn't show any meaningful difference in the charts with this very aggressive power saving feature toggled. In other words, you customized how the power saving mode works by toggling the apps and home screen limitation, but the power saving mode itself wasn't on for the tests in this video. Maybe you could do this part again on a whole new video, also exploring the additional limits when power saving is on.
@techmo202010 ай бұрын
@@alex-coelho hi, I actually went through my footage again now, and even though it is cut in this video, I made sure that the power saving mode was actually on. Since I was in the setting and my name was visible, I cut that part of the video. To be fair it showed 3% less battery consumption on power saving mode, but my tests were not targeting full CPU utilization and the use of 120fps screen, most of them were stationary which means the screen was already on a lower refresh rate, hence the difference was minimal.

@@techmo2020 Thanks for the clarification! I still find it weird that, on the video, the home screen didn't change to black with the fewer limited apps allowed to run (which would also impact the tests if the one used in the video wasn't set up to be among the eight-ish or so). At least on mine it does change to that after toggling apps and home screen and turning power saving mode on at the top of the screen

Software can't update hardware... Samsung might maybe(*) be able to slightly narrow the power draw difference under load by compromising in performance by limiting peak performance/max clocks in Exynos. But standby/network connectivity power draw simply can't be lowered without affecting also connection quality and risking signal drops. * If lower peak states result in CPU staying significantly longer in higher power states and unable to idle as often that can negate power saving.

Hi, I've found today S24+ with Snapdragon in several mobile stores here in Croatia (512 GB, as I was looking for that one, not sure if I saw any 128 or 256 GB with Snapdragon), because they import from the countries that have them. Official Samsung store has the one with Exynox (I've bought S24 Ultra there in a presale, using it since February but its really heavy, so thats why I'm looking for S24+ instead preferably with Snapdragon as Ultra has) and basically all teleoperators as well if you are buying S24+ via them (T mobile, etc). Maybe you could check your local stores which sell phones if they have imported S24+ with Snapdragon.

@@suzanacuravic@suzanacuravic4487 i've bought the s24+ with snapdragon from aliexpress. Works perfectly. But thanks for the tip. Operators in the netherlands don't import but online sell the Europeanen version

Great to see a fellow Smartphone nerd from Austria. I think Samsung with their Android 14 Update might have figured something out with their Exynos Chips. I have been using a Galaxy S22 Ultra since its release and the Android 14 update really has smoothed things out. I don't get any frame skips in animations or inconsistent scrolling speed - which I was getting from time to time on Android 12 and 13. With that being said the battery consumption on this thing still is almost comically bad, especially standby times since I always try to maximize it by turning off wifi, 5G, bluetooth and GPS and manually AOT compile Apps with adb. I just in general think Samsung is using their Exynos chips wrong. They are not bad but they really should stay out of the Flagship Standard S Line of phones. If they would put these chips in the 500 - 700 Galaxy S FE Line they would wipe the floor with the other wannabe flagships using Mediatek 8000 and Snapdragon 7 Series SoCs in that price range. But to be honest Samsung never has been a company that gets you great specs for the price so I doubt they would ever consider it.

FYI for UK users, amazon us samsung store ships the us version of to uk, after shipping and duty the phone is still ballpark the same price as buying from samsung uk (s24+ now they decreased to $849 so after tax and shipping its still £825ish)

Would be great if there's a comparison across the S21 and S22, SD and Exynos variants

Man i love these reviews! So detailed and technical. I have a question for you, I am in Italy and I think that the Sim situation is going to be the same as in Austria. Does the US s24 work fine with European sim cards? I am trying to get my hands on a US s24 to get the snapdragon, but of course if it has problems with italian SIMs it makes no sense to get it.

Funny thing I was just in Udine, the sim works fine. Not only fine, but in Grado the S24 Exynos didn't have signals anymore, but S24 US version had it. I am not endorsing importing US variant though, you may face some issues that I didn't, maybe try to get one from Hong Kong. Also be mindful that you may not get the warranty.

@@techmo2020 Hey thanks so much for the response! hope you enjoyed your time in Italy. Yes indeed in these days I looked up way to get s24 snap, and getting the HK variant seems easier than the US, it just doesn't have the e-sim but whatever. For the warranty I was thinking about activating samsung care+, which I discovered that can be activated until 6 months after the purchase of a new samsung phone even if not from the official website.

Amazing video and work, showing how the rest of the world gets ripped off with the exynos no matter what they say. Normally don't comment but have my engagement mark here as well as a like and follow! Hope you get some slightly better payout from youtube because of it!

Have you compared the plus versions? If it's all about cooling efficiency, maybe exynos performs better there?
@tuunaes10 ай бұрын
Snapdragon has all the same advantages of being able to perform better and more battery capacity.

Unfortunately not, it is a bit on the expensive side to buy both phones and since I don't accept sponsors for now, it's hard to justify it. But GSMArena did a battery test for S24+ Exynos, since it's lower than S23+, I only assume a similar thing gonna happen if I compare S24+ Exynos vs. Snapdragon.
