Because the vast majority of people buying smartphones don't check performance tests, mosts don't even know (or care) what kind of processor their device uses. Approach ten random Samsung phone users in the street and ask them what a Snapdragon is, I bet eight will think it's some kind of small aggressive dog breed. Samsung sells worse phones at higher prices in the rest of the world compared to the US because *it can*. People still buy it. Companies really only change their behaviour if punished by customers with lower sales, leading to losses in profit. As long as they can slap their cheap in-house processor in a phone and it still sells like hot cakes, there is zero incentive for them to change.

Software can't update hardware... Samsung might maybe(*) be able to slightly narrow the power draw difference under load by compromising in performance by limiting peak performance/max clocks in Exynos. But standby/network connectivity power draw simply can't be lowered without affecting also connection quality and risking signal drops. * If lower peak states result in CPU staying significantly longer in higher power states and unable to idle as often that can negate power saving.

hi @@techmo2020! At 6:02 , although you toggled the option for 'limit apps and home screen', you didn't turn on the power saving mode at the very top of the screen back again. That's why it didn't show any meaningful difference in the charts with this very aggressive power saving feature toggled. In other words, you customized how the power saving mode works by toggling the apps and home screen limitation, but the power saving mode itself wasn't on for the tests in this video. Maybe you could do this part again on a whole new video, also exploring the additional limits when power saving is on.
@techmo20209 ай бұрын
@@alex-coelho hi, I actually went through my footage again now, and even though it is cut in this video, I made sure that the power saving mode was actually on. Since I was in the setting and my name was visible, I cut that part of the video. To be fair it showed 3% less battery consumption on power saving mode, but my tests were not targeting full CPU utilization and the use of 120fps screen, most of them were stationary which means the screen was already on a lower refresh rate, hence the difference was minimal.

Great to see a fellow Smartphone nerd from Austria. I think Samsung with their Android 14 Update might have figured something out with their Exynos Chips. I have been using a Galaxy S22 Ultra since its release and the Android 14 update really has smoothed things out. I don't get any frame skips in animations or inconsistent scrolling speed - which I was getting from time to time on Android 12 and 13. With that being said the battery consumption on this thing still is almost comically bad, especially standby times since I always try to maximize it by turning off wifi, 5G, bluetooth and GPS and manually AOT compile Apps with adb. I just in general think Samsung is using their Exynos chips wrong. They are not bad but they really should stay out of the Flagship Standard S Line of phones. If they would put these chips in the 500 - 700 Galaxy S FE Line they would wipe the floor with the other wannabe flagships using Mediatek 8000 and Snapdragon 7 Series SoCs in that price range. But to be honest Samsung never has been a company that gets you great specs for the price so I doubt they would ever consider it.

Perfect review it gives exact information about the 2 chipsets how it performs and SD is still king and exynos still behind. SW update didn't change performance of d exynos variant. Great work keep posting more such vdos.

I have the s24 exynos and I was very skeptical to get this version. But to be honest, the phone is awesome. The only thing I believe that could be better is the battery life.
@techmo20209 ай бұрын
Absolutely, the only issue is battery otherwise a great phone. It's just a pity because it was so close to be greatest compact Phone ever made.

Hola hermano. También tengo el s24+ con Exynos y la verdad es que va muy fluido para un usuario como yo (fotografía, redes sociales y multimedia). La verdad esperaba algo peor del procesador, pero hasta ahora el rendimiento ha sido bastante bueno

Very nice comparison , thanks for including 4g,5g in your measurement, its crucial and almost no one does that

Cool video ! What if you're a video editor using capcut and adobe rush apps ? Is exynos slower for 4K video exports ?

I'd love to know if the big gap between the modem power consumption of the two devices narrows if 5G is turned off? Thanks for your channel

you got to the guts and proved what I was afraid to know. I read somewhere that the s24 plus with Exynos on Android Auto also drains the battery very fast, but it was one comment from a user with no video or further details provided. I still believe Samsung did a good job improving the Exynos processor and here in Brazil is what we have. Also, the pre-sales event brought amazing discounts that for sure can justify a lesser performance for the Exynos variant.

I wonder, is the 4G connection more efficient if you do video calls? Looking at your data, the biggest issue of the Exynos version really seems to be the modem. As you said ... even Apple is buying Qualcomm modems ^^.

Hi and thanks for the reviews! I want a new phone and I'm not sure whether it's S23 or S24!? Is the S24 worth the extra cost? What about the software support, the S24 has 3 years longer, right? Thanks and Greetings!
@techmo20206 ай бұрын
I think both are decent options, S24 has a better display and that could be a good reason to go for it. On other aspects like battery and camera they are on par.

do latest Exynos vs latest tensor , i feel tensor is more optimised for pixels and Exynos still gotta do better

Very interesting test. I have a question about the frequency bands used by the SnapDragon version of the phone : are they compatible with european ones or some are missing ? I mean, does the phone work correctly in Europe without any problems ? Thanks.
@techmo20204 ай бұрын
It's hard to say, you have to check it online for your service provider but usually Chinese and European Bands are compatible but not American ones

18% difference is crazy. And people have the gall to say Exynos is catching up. No, a 18% worse performance is two generations behind if not three.
@ujjwalrattan9119 ай бұрын
Have you compared the plus versions? If it's all about cooling efficiency, maybe exynos performs better there?
@tuunaes9 ай бұрын
Snapdragon has all the same advantages of being able to perform better and more battery capacity.
@techmo20209 ай бұрын
Unfortunately not, it is a bit on the expensive side to buy both phones and since I don't accept sponsors for now, it's hard to justify it. But GSMArena did a battery test for S24+ Exynos, since it's lower than S23+, I only assume a similar thing gonna happen if I compare S24+ Exynos vs. Snapdragon.

Just found out that aside from the US and Canada, the Samsung S24 and S24+ sold in China have Snapdragon chipset and not Exynos. So I guess for those who are in countries near China (like those in East and Southeast Asia), the units released in China and are sold in their country may be a good option. (In my area, HongKong variants are sold.)

Also while doing multitasking( especially if we use camera for video recording) the phone heats up too much . Yesterday i was using 4-5 apps( with split screen & pop up) on my s24 ( including camera for video recording) which i also used to do on my s20fe5g & s23 and they both never ever crossed 46( s23 never crossed 44 ) ,but unfortunately this one reached a whooping 47.8 degrees yesterday . I mean atleast this is unacceptable .
