I have one fixed floater with the shape of a croissant after the collapse of my vitreous. I have one slice of pineapple 4 to 5 times a week for a year. The floater lost most of its shape and only remains two points. I don´t know what influence had on the small dose of bromelain but I`m getting better. As I know bromelain don't dissolve collagen but it slows blood clotting, perhaps it may reduce collagen fibers clumps

I wish this had been helpful. It wasn't. The breaking down of collagen in the eye was a hypothesis only. That other countries eat lots of pineapples isn't relevant if they aren't eating the tougher core of the pineapple. Few eat that. One has to slice the pineapple horizontally to include the core (the part that has bromelain). Your video was a waste of time.

And I don't care what people say they don't always settle down after a couple of months plus the doctors that I seen including the Veterans Administration seems to not be interested in even looking at it being done. Thanks for your video, Dr. Tai. A couple of years ago I had a round floater in my right eye, I was alarmed as it was severe. Through the research of my own, I deduced that it was from my optic nerve. I researched ways to treat my condition and learned that sucking out the floater to include the entire gel sac and then replacing the fluid was an option. This seemed like a last resort for me so I began eating pineapples. I eat pineapples every day for three weeks and the floater disappeared. I recently had the same thing happen in my left eye. I went back to the pineapple and it's been a week. The floater has diminished by 60 or so percent and I will continue to eat pineapples until it's completely gone. I still have no floaters in my right eye. I turn 60 this month. Due to my personal experience, I'll continue to enjoy pineapples for the rest of my life. Sincerely,

I want to share my experience, doctor. I know that a sample size of n=1 has no scientific value, but I have found a treatment that works very well for me, although it works extremely slowly. Something fell into my eye, and since then, I saw pitch-black small circle-shaped spots in the corner of my eye, moving like a swarm of flies. It drove me crazy. I could perceive each floater individually (there were very few of them). Under the motto "if it doesn’t help, it won’t hurt," I (after a few months) repeated a Taiwanese study (Dr. Jui-Wen Ma et al.), in which not pineapple but a very high concentration of fruit enzymes (including bromelain from pineapples, but also other enzymes like ficin and papain) was administered to patients over a three-month period. What gave me hope was that X-rays were also included in the study, and it seemed unlikely to me that a team of Ph.D. scientists would have fabricated the entire study and photoshopped the images. Since I didn't want to deceive myself, I kept a diary in which I described my floaters daily. My pitch-dark, circular floaters became progressively lighter brown and more transparent. Additionally, they lost more and more shape. When I first noticed the changes, I wrote down "it seems that…" but now I can no longer deny it, because after about 3.5 months, I can no longer distinguish my floaters. Instead of seeing them all day (especially in bright light), I now only occasionally see "something" move in the corner of my eye. And when I try to find the now-transparent, small floater spots in bright light, sometimes I can't even locate them. I am aware that your brain can ignore floaters over time, but that doesn't explain how I witnessed changes that strongly suggest I was observing a process in which protein fibers were being broken down. I am also aware that fruit enzymes hardly reach the eye, but that could explain why the breakdown process is so incredibly slow and why it works better with a very high dose. As a layperson in this field, I have no clue HOW it works, but as a patient, I have experienced THAT it works. Because I only started this treatment after months and then suddenly saw progress, I believe there is a connection between the treatment and the progress. I hope that more scientists will replicate the study, because then I think scientific consensus will follow quickly.

I use pineapple to treat a bursa in my shoulder. For those that can't eat pineapple because of the high sugar content, pills of extract are available. They are often sold as digestive enzymes, or bromelain. I'm not sure the effectiveness of the extracts. But I can attest that when I eat a lot of papaya or pineapple helps in general for any injury or bruises. If you're an athlete, not a bad idea to reduce inflammation on off days.

The first time, I experienced eye floaters is about 20 years ago (I’m 67 now and retired). Over the years I have seen up to 5 floaters in my left eye. I didn’t had a healthy style of living and had a too much stress work related and too less sleep - constantly exhausted, not to talk about alcohol consumption. Anyways, my live got more in order, less stress, healthy eating and more sleep over the last 5 years 🙂 The floaters are almost gone, I only see 2 sometimes but very transparent compared to 15-20 years ago. I won’t draw a conclusion out of that, but since my life became calmer, my floaters may decided to hide somewhere away out of the field of view 😉 from my perspective - they almost disappeared 🤔

She is too dismissive of the research in Taiwan and Japan, carried out by the prestigious Taipei Unuversity. It was sufficiently large to strongly suggest that the results were valid, or otherwise she is saying they falsified the evidence. Which is it? As for the research not being repeated that is fairly obvious, because it is very costly and there is no money in proving that something as simple and cheap as pineapple ( Bromelain) can dissolve floaters. Her comment about this is naive in the extreme. How much research is there to prove that a very low carb diet can reverse diabetes, yet the actual evidence is overwhelming ? Almost none, and for the same reasons - because it would devastate the diabetes industry.

Born extremely near-sighted, I have had floaters for about 70 years. I imagine that my vitreous humor has a tendency to pull away from the retina due to the elongation of the eyeball and collect debris. Diagnosed as 'pre-diabetic', I went keto several years ago (no sugar, no bread, no corn, no rice). Other results good. I read the same article you referenced, but no follow-up publications. NO WAY would I eat pineapple (full of fructose), but I tried bromelain (3,400 mg/day) for a year with no results. I have been taking twice that (6,800 mg/day) for the last year...again with no perceptible results. Another channel suggested liquid MSM eyedrops. I have them but am not optimistic. Only one caution: my regular eye doc said I was developing a “growth of cells over your macula” which was “idiopathic.” It’s probably not due to the lasering but “ya never know.” I still see better out of that eye than before the procedure.

A great video. I had posterior vitreous detachment and a retinal horseshoe tear which was tacked down. There are different classes of floaters. One, are the vitreous gel floaters caused by collagen clumping during syneresis or formation of liquefied vitreous. A more serious type are caused by posterior vitreous detachment…hyaloid membrane surrounding the vitreous pulls from the retina, and parts of that can cause more obstructing floaters. If the hyaloid pulls too hard, causing traction and visual flashing lights, the retina can tear. Many hundreds of dark tiny floaters can accompany this. Flashing lights, dark curtains, and loss of acuity signals possible retinal tears. These can generally be tacked down right away with a laser…a barrier is formed to prevent further tearing.

My only guess if this works is - It's like adding OIL to a pot of spaghetti. If you DON'T add oil, the spaghetti STICKS together. The pineapple or bromelain might be acting like OIL and separating the floaters so they don't stick together and are Not as noticeable.

Eating pineapple worked quickly and very well for me. If bromelain is the reason (we dont know for sure) - then, it does not affect established structures in the eye, it only affects floaters - floaters are not part of established eye structure, and are less resistance to Bromelain at these dosage levels. Bromelain can also be purchased as a supplement.

As a doctor you should know that natural remedies or products have selective characteristics. There are 100s natural options that attack cancer cells but not healthy cells. So if proteolytic enzymes in Pineapple attack damaged collagen in the vitreous and not the normal collagen, it is not an unusual thing, but completely natural. To use Yag laser and claim that it is better than a natural way, is strange because laser shaking the entire corpus vitreum and there are risks for retinal detachment and other complications. To do a retinal surgery for floaters is also a commercial issue and not scientific.

For everyone who has eye floaters and are currently in panic: keep on reading. I first encountered floaters when I was about 19 but somehow they moved out of my field of vision, then at 27 I suddenly had a bunch of them. At that time I also had bad anxiety, stress etc and I couldn’t stop looking for the floaters that it became a daily obsession. But: I overcame it. It WILL get better! Try to find the core of where the anxiety comes from, maybe with a little more help like therapy or someone you trust to talk to. Strangely, I still have floaters but I barely notice them because I’m not scared of them anymore. The mind can be a powerful ally or your biggest enemy. If I can do it, you can do it too!

It was pretty annoying close to the center of my view, and reading on a bright computer screen became difficult. I also read the 2019 article and tried it out. Btw, the article was talking about 1, 2, or 3 small cubes. More than that had no additional effect. My floater began to shrink and eventually disappeared. Sometimes it comes back much smaller, but I continued to eat some pineapple, and it goes away again.

I tried the Bromelain test , with pills , but it didnt work . It sounds like Posterior Viterous Detachment. The gel in the Viterous sac liquefies and the sac pulls away from the Retina. Long stringy floaters that are black, brown, or nearly transparent in your visional field is common if you have PVD. These floaters don't go away. In the less severe cases you get use to it and may not notice it as much. For severe cases where you have many floaters that is affecting your vision there a surgery called a Vitrectomy. What they do with that surgery is drain the viterous sac and remove all the particles that are responsible for the floaters and refill the sac with saline solution. Please see a Retina Specialist about this condition as it is possible to have a Retinal Detachment if you are very near sighted. It is a small percentage of that happening, but it could happen. Best of luck to you.

I've been researching the possible causes of macular degeneration, and oral microbes that make their way into the brain and eyes, the latter which are merely an extension of the brain, have been found in the macular of those who have this. I went a bit further, researching the microbes that cause gum disease, which I also have, and how to kill them naturally, and eating pineapple was one such remedy. Also, manuka honey and pomegranate seeds. I've also been noticing a lot of floaters in my eyes recently. Oral microbes? Why isn't this being investigated further? Dr. Simon Yu on here has some interesting ideas behind the cause of disease. I really don't want to go blind while they figure it out. DR. Audrey, a very interesting video. Pineapples, which contain a high content of Bromelain is also a suggested ingestion for a helpful ingredient to combat Arthritis. It is one of the Proteolytic Enzymes included in various joint supplements (Tumeric, Ginger, Papain , and others). I suffer from periodic Eye Floaters, and noticed something of specific interest. I have Numerous spinal issues : Stenosis, disc herniations, Degenerative Disc Disease , facet joint arthritis and Military Neck (loss of the curve in the cervical spine). I'm 70 yo, and suffer with the these ailments of Chronic pain & stiffness for many years. Notwithstanding those issues, I recently noticed, going to my 5th Chiropractor who was applying cervical adjustments (which have been stopped now), that after the 2nd session, the adjustment Triggered the return of Floaters. They had been in a "Sleep mode" for some time, but now surfaced. In addition, my Pain Management doctor had suggested that I should NOT have any Cervical Manipulations done due to my specific issues in my neck. Since the Chiro stopped and is doing other measures to help me deal with my Spine issues, the Floaters have calmed down. You don't propose any other supplements for eye Health, and I think you should. Lutein ? Turmeric (the hottest thing on the planet right now)? ; Hyaluronic acid? You are right about the acidity content of pineapple. I love it, but it doesn't love my stomach. It seems to produce lots of GERD for me. IBS / GERD is another topic for different forums. But I will say that I have Tinnitus , Chronic Sinusitis, IBS, OA in many joints & Spine.... My Research keeps steering me to Cervical Instabilities ("CI") as a major culprit / contributor to these ailments. CI affects the various Brain Stem Nerves (the Vagus Nerve the Motherlode) as they exit the brain and run through the first Verterbrea of the spine - the Atlas. Any "pinching" of those nerves traverse down to the rest of the Body. I am no doctor, just someone seeking answers and treatments for my disabilities.

I understand if the nerves are the root cause that needs to be healed. I had chronic sinusitis many years ago, I literally used to bang my head on the wall at times. It was real bad. 1 treatment of Nasya karma( Ayurvedic) cleared it all. Although I was asked to do it once a year. I never had to go. Ayurveda has worked very well for me for many years now. They have non invasive herbal treatments to medicines. It is holistic. It's worth a try. I have seen people heal completely with worse joint issues, cervical issues etc. Just find a good Ayurvedic doctor. Good luck

If eye floaters are made from collagen, and bromelain breaks down collagen.. Then if the bromelain can get to the eye then surely there's a chance it can work right?

Thank you for the most informative discussion on floaters that I have ever heard, and this includes my Ophthalmologist. In Navy boot camp I ran the gauntlet with multiple air guns to vaccinate against any disease on the planet. My floaters appeared shortly afterwards. I'm now 70 and I learned to ignore them. Thanks again for the great information.

A buddy of mine, who was in the Navy, had a radioactive substance sprayed in his eye, only for it to get the size of a golf ball, and never recovered 100%.

I have to admit, I was a little skeptical of your presentation and your own skepticism concerning pineapple helping with floater problems until I listened to your objections which do make sense. The clincher was when you spoke of being a nutritionist and proponent of natural remedies. You seem to be an eye doctor who shoots it straight. I had cataract surgeries in both eyes, and last week I had to have a YAG capsulotomy in my right eye because it had began to become so blurred that I couldn't see even with glasses from that eye. It was like trying to look through a shower glass. After the procedure, I was able to see tack sharp from my right eye for 2 days, but experienced severe hazing problems and even spots from the laser when I would look at a white or near white wall. I have been off the Prednisolone for 3 days now, and for the most part, my vision has came back to 90% of what I was seeing for 2 days post procedure. Hopefully I will get that wonderful tack sharp crispness that I enjoyed for 2 days as my eye finishes recovering, and I was told that it could take about a week for the side effects to completely disappear. Good and informative presentation here. Thank you.

You said there were no studies confirming the results. But have there been any studies that have tried to do so and failed?

Hello. Thank you for your time. I just got my eyes looked at and a prescription filled. Roughly 2 weeks. With a typical optometrist. In the last 2 years.I have experienced all three symptoms you described. Exactly how you described them. I’m also sensitive to bright lights. 6 months ago I did see an ophthalmologist. Because of what is best described by your third symptom. Nothing abnormal was found. Thank you.

I started getting two small floaters in one of my eyes. They looked like two small black dots. I've recently been taking an eye vitamin that contains bilberry and eating pineapples. I definitely see a difference in my vision and the floaters seem to have faded significantly. The pineapple has also helped my gallbladder, so it has been an added bonus! Love the taste of pineapple, so no complaints having to eat it! 😊 🍍

Also, I’ve had floaters since very young. Why not draw me in by the title telling me it’s not true rather than giving me momentary false hope 😔
